I just took this out of the box and set it up within the past hour. I couldn't wait to try the automatic smoothie setting because I make a smoothie every morning for my wife.
I put two cups of ice cubes (not crushed--yet) and some of my Starbuck's venti Pike Place coffee (that I purchased at the drive though on the way home from WalMart) into the "jar". I then added a bit of peppermint creamer.
Following the instructions, I hit the on/off button to turn it on, the red light flashed and I pressed the "Pre-programmed" Frozen Drink button. The motor reversed, pulsed, whirred, reversed again and went into action. Less than a minute later, I was pouring the frothy, frozen concoction into a glass. No lumps, no ice chunks, just smoothie. I tasted it and promptly poured it down the drain. I didn't care for the concoction. But, the blender worked like a champ.
Good "first" thoughts: - Quieter than the blender it replaced. As a step of faith the old blender (leaky piece of junk) is already by the curb. Today is trash day and the truck has not yet arrived. - Easier to take apart for cleaning than its predecessor. Be mindful of the sharp metal blades - just saying - Rubber lid fits snug, but not so tight that you have to wrestle with it to remove it - It's heavy enough that it does not "walk" around the counter. I hated that about the old one ,which had to be constantly monitored instead of using that time to pack lunches. - Stuff can be added while it's running through the capped hole in the top - 6 cup "jar" atop the base is short enough to fit under the kitchen cabinet and allow the jar to be removed, filled and replaced on the base without moving the base around. I love that part! - It was only $60.00 - although I am a HUGE proponent of "you get what you pay for" - we shall see - Pre-programming for frozen drinks - allowing for unattended use - Reverse - this seems to "pull" the mixture down towards the blades. This is used by the pre-programmed frozen drink setting.
Less than good "first" thoughts: - Smelled like burning oil when it first cranked up - hopefully this goes away and does not catch fire while I'm not paying attention, packing lunches - Most of the recipes in the manual require alcohol - given a few more minutes, I could probably think of something snarky to write about that - I'm a bit concerned about the "little rubbery thin grayish-black" seal that sits between the blade housing at the very bottom of jar. This seal is what keeps liquid inside of the jar and not on your countertops, floors and walls. It's this little teensy potential point of failure that the company is basing the success of the machine. Seems like it could be a little beefier, or more rugged or that they might have thought to include an extra one since it probably costs about .04 cents to make.
Yes, I actually gleaned all of this from ONE use of the machine. Well, one use and maybe two hours of internet research (to find out what I didn't want) and a year with the my old leaky blender.
I also got my new iPhone 5 yesterday... I wonder what a blender would look like if it were made by "Apple in California"?

For this very long review not sure what this person bought the blender for?? About the alcohol part, this is advertised for making mixed frozen drinks, therefore the pre-programmed settings. I much had rather have the other reviews and this one for a novel on the love affiar for a blender.
I love it and all it is advertised to be! Nothing more, nothing less!

Review 2 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
After A LOT of research and footwork - running to countless stores to "see what they had" - being discouraged, confused. and confounded by endless comparisons, I finally settled on this Oster which I found at Walmart for under $60. I found it at walmart.com and it was available for pickup via Site-to-Store within hours. I did not see this model on the actual store shelf. It is perfect and does exactly what it promises! Nice thick glass jug, metal gears, has manual and preprogrammed controls with pulse options, it chops, blends and smoothifies ice and frozen fruits beautifully. Oh, did I mention the FIVE (5) year warranty! Other Oster models, and most surprisingly other high end and VERY pricey brands, failed to compare. A great buy, and I am so pleased and happy the search is over.

I like this blender. I used it to replace an old Oster blender bought in the early 1990's. I used it to pulverize raw 7 grain cereal. It looks nice on my countertop. I was considering buying the Ninja but the Oster reputation price and power won.

I dont care too much for the pulse feature, but I usually use mine for the frozen drink button. I make smoothies, whole fruits and even apple and pear skin and it chops it down so fine! Makes wonderful sluchies too for my lil guy. I hated the Ninja, juiicers are a waste, I can not afford to throw away all that food it leaves behind. PLUS the fiber is what you want! I have been regular ever since lol!

Review 5 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
I am very pleased with this blender. I make healthy smoothies daily with frozen berries bananas water and yogurt, so was perfect for me. The only negative I have is the pitcher does not twist lock onto base, so please be careful if you raise over your head to put away in a cabinet the way I do, as could wobble and topple over if not careful. I of course am careful as am aware of that, and want to keep this in good shape for many years. I love the old style designe of the beehive, but got this for the better blades and opposit turning to free food that attempts to clog. I now throw my banana in first then pour in a cup of water then in goes the yogurt and blueberries . My last blenders motor ( which wasn't an Oster ) burned out due to my frozen berries jamming the blades. I know better now. My experience with Oster has always been the best !

I'm pretty impressed, I would say it's the best deal in the $60-70 price range... even with the reversing technology you still need to assist the blending some times... seems like the more you run it the smaller the pieces become

Review 7 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
For only $59, how can you go wrong? It does everything it says it does, and more. Extremely easy to use - made Spinach Sorbet and Blueberry Ice Cream with ease - and no chunks...very smooth and the kids loved them. Why in the world would I want to pay over $500 for a fancy name brand blender or even $99 for one with blades that are hard to clean and can cut you horribly, when this does the same thing? This is a great value, and with a 7 year warranty, you can't go wrong.

I wish Walmart would give it some time before asked to review a product. I've only used this blender once since receiving it. All I can state is that "it seems to work just fine". All of you know that blenders among other things need to be used for a period of time, so this is all I can say as of now. Along with that, it looks good on my kitchen counter.

I got the Oster Designed for Live blender delivered a few days ago. There was a noise before I unpacked it... After I got the package open I didn't even get to plug it in. The noise was from inside the blender. Like, a loose bolt or something of that sort. Now, I have to return it & hope for the best. So, go from this if you want to? Maybe others are having better luck than I am.

This Blender was GREAT for the first few weeks of using. Blended my protein shakes SUPER smooth and fast...Loved the Reverse blend option and it definately had some power to it. HOWEVER I went to blend my PM shake last night and though the moter was running the blade was not ignitiating... Further inspection revealed that the drive shaft threading had stripped the metal component that inserts into Jar. Im sooo dissapointed...This will be the 4th blender I have had fail on me and had to return to Walmart. My blender does get used 6 to 7 times daily so I may need to invents in a industrial use blender or something. Will return tonight...

Review 12 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
I use this blender to make green smoothies and it handles everything I throw at it. I use raw vegetables as well as frozen fruit to make my smoothies and the motor is more then strong enough to handle the job. I love the "Frozen Drink" setting the blender has. Very simple to take apart for cleaning. I especially like the glass pitcher, much better than the plastic type. What's not to like about the 5-Year Satisfaction Guarantee!

I use my blender for frozen drinks, mostly fruit smoothies. My old Oster blender was starting to struggle after about 25 years, so I scoured the internet to find a good replacement. There are some very expensive blenders that do not have uniformly positive reviews and many of them have plastic jars and need to have the ingredients tamped down. That is, they do not create the vortex that leads to even blending, while the Oster does not need any help. I wanted a glass jar, and my years of using my previous Oster made me disposed to try another because they really do a good job. This newer model has a more powerful motor than my old one, and since I probably overload the jar with too many frozen fruits, I need the extra power. While I do use the preset frozen drink program, I usually have to finish off using the manual setting to completely crush and blend. I'm not sure that I see a difference in the ability to crush using this new blade pattern with blades underneath as well, but this is a powerful unit, quieter than my old one, and it is stable and sturdy. I considered the Vitamix, but watching the demos at local stores left me unimpressed. The Ninja series look very dangerous to clean, and again, no vortex. For smoothie lovers, I think this blender is a great, and reasonably priced, option.

Review 14 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
I have used this blender to make frozen smoothies as well as to blend soups and sauces. I does both very well. It can be very loud when blending frozen drinks, however, when blending soups and sauces it is very quiet. It blends nicely and is easy to clean. I would reccomend this, I have had it for 3 weeks.

Review 15 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
Wow! I am very impress with this blender. Though unassuming when looking at the product, it operates far better than what I expected from a blender. The oscillating blades makes for a fine chopping of fruits and vegetables. So as to improve my health, I desired to purchase a juicer; this works out far better because it allows all aspects of the fruits and vegetables [so far] (along with what else, I one day will add to the blend) to remain within the liquid, which makes for a delicious and nutritious treat. Massive thumbs up for this inexpensive, efficient, money-saving and health improving device which is ALREADY serving me well.

Review 16 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
I was actually in the market for a juicer but past experience with trying to clean one after using it made me consider the NutriBullett or this Oster. After all the negative info out there on the bullett, I decided to try the Oster and I am glad I did. I make health drinks with it and it completely liquifies every thing I have fed it so far. Hard carrots in a small amount of liquid become completely juiced. I usually make a smoothie from carrots, blueberries, apples, brocolli, kale, walnuts, and strawberries with grape or apple juice mixed in to blend. The taste is fantastic and there is no pulp of any kind left. It becomes the consistency of a thin milkshake. I put apples in peel and all, no leftovers of any kind. Dont let the hype try to convince you that food must be juiced to get the most nutrients out. A blender like this one will work just as well. I did the research. The main reason there is no pulp or residue is because of the auto reversing blade. I mix my drinks on low first, then switch to the "frozen drink" setting which engages the auto reversing feature. Super easy to clean, just rinse out.

This Designed for Life Oster Blender works perfectly for everything it is made for. Same features as their popular Fusion Model but in stainless steel and COMES WITH a 5-YEAR Satisfaction Guarantee. ALL for $59. at WalMart. I saw it on Amazon for $174. Anyone who complains about this blender is either doing something wrong or their expectations are unreasonable and perhaps should move a concrete mixer into their kitchen made for heavy materials and then complain about the noise that makes. Educate yourself and follow the directions that come with this blender and enjoy its unbelievable value. Reversing motor, 6 point blade and 2 automatic programs will work like a dream including making smoothies!

Review 19 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
I rated "would recommend" but the blender was bought as a gift for my niece. She has not used it yet. She makes smoothies on a daily basis and has been using the Oster blender I have had since probably the early 1980s. Have never had a problem with the old blender, still works great, has 960 Watts so more powerful. Bought the new blender based on reading lots of reviews on a number of blenders. I decided to stay with Oster because my blender has lasted so long. I had not used my blender on a daily basis, but there was a time for a number of years when I used it regularly. My niece started using it over a year ago and it works great. So I am hoping the new blender will last a long time for her.

Review 20 for Oster Designed for Life 7-Speed Blender, Brushed Stainless, BLSTRM-DZ0-015
I was very dissapointed on Christmas day when I put in onions to chop and it did a lousy job....practically juiced some and left huge hunks ...had to take them out and rechop by hand. Worked great with a protien drink...as much as I repeatedly used it on those onions at high speeds, it does not move on the counter, so that is good. I was going to return it, but decided to keep it for smoothies because I am too tired from the holidays to hassle it. Sure hope it can blend spinach in a smoothy...I will update after I work with it.
