Convert and archive your favorite home movies to DVD is a simple task with Toshiba DR430 DVD recorder. You can also watch your favorite DVD and movie collection in near HD quality with the DR430's 1080p Upconversion via HDMI. The single disc DVD player playbacks and records in various formats like DVD+/-R/RW, CD-R/RW, VCD and SVCD which provides versatile compatibility. The single disc DVD player has 3D virtual surround sound Dolby digital output and MP3 decoding feature. A universal remote control with infrared technology comes along the DVD player. With one touch recording capability, the DVD player with USB port offers the perfect entertainment solution. It features a search speed of 5x, 2x, 20x, 40x and slow motion speed of 1/8, 1/4, 1/16, 1/3. The player supports digital audio standards like MP3 and LPCM while the recording modes are XP, SP, LP, EP and SLP.
I got this unit for creating videos onto DVDs since VHS users are a vanishing species anymore. My immediate use was for creating an enhanced copy of my daughter's HS play for sharing with others. After making an SVHS master from two HI-8 camera tapes, improving the sound, and adding titles, I merely connected the VCR output to the DVD recorder using standard RCA cables and found no problem at all in making a copy to DVD-R disks. The manual is easy to understand and I used it for just a few things: To switch to the optimum time for recording, to find out how to finalize the disk, and how to create my own titles for each recorded segment. The latter is the most tedious task, but it is nice to have the option rather than the default name.
I will of course use this to copy and archive older videotapes of non-movie origin. I will not use it in conjunction with a DVR, Cable/Satellite receiver, or anything considered "modern" regarding digital entertainment systems--so I cannot comment on such interfacing. It appears to be a great deal for the price, and the performance has been glitch-free. I was admittedly concerned with the reliability, in lieu of alot of reviews. I don't normally get an extended warranty on products, but I feel better with the nominally-priced 2-year Wal-mart offer just in case. They beat a major competitor's price on the DR430 by $32, and although I could have gotten one in-store locally that day, I saved alot by ordering from WM online and waiting just two days to get it. I would consider getting a second unit just for the heck of it. One more thing: Just don't lose or damage the remote, since most functions on this machine rely on it!

Do not waste your money. Go to Toshiba and see how hard it is to get help when your player goes out. You can't get anyone online to help you.

The DVD recorder copied my DV tapes without any problems. I have an inexpensive camcorder so the tapes I was copying were not professional quality. The DVD's I made had as good of picture quality as the originals. I could not see any degradation. I would recommend this product to anyone on a limited budget. Good value for the price.

I own two older toshiba recorders and they have outlasted the other 4 types of recorders I have tried. I was glad to find this newer version when replacing the other brands. I record every day! and my old toshibas are still going strong after the years since tv went digital. These recorders may need converter boxes to recaive tv signals but you can get 8 hours of record time (as compared to 6 on the other brands). They are easy to operate. One drawback, when you have more than one in a room the remote will change them all if you don't put up barriers between them. Happy recording

The product worked like a charm. Easy to follow instructions made it usable right out of the box. The recording and sound quality are excellent, and I had no trouble getting the DVDs to play in other devices. A great buy.

Unit arrived in six days. I am not exactly TECH SAVY and had some questions regarding hooking up to a cable box utilizing the COMPONENT VIDEO feature. I called the toll free # for help and was shifted to the web. There you are presented with several typical problems, none of which was mine. NO CHAT & NO PERSON. Buy it if you are a GEEK, but if not you are ON YOUR OWN !!!

My wife and I are very active with recordings of programs and movies we particularly like and want to watch again in the future. It's a hobby both of us enjoy. This unit from Toshiba was surprisingly accurate, easy to operate and performs and excellent job of recording. I recommend it highly to anyone interested in recording DVDs even in converting tapes to longer lasting DVD media. To my knowledge, when reasonable care and storage of DVDs is given, there is no time dependent degradation of recorded quality. Not so with tapes which degrade over time regardless of care in storage.

We bought this DVD Recorder. It didn't take long to get it hooked up, but the instructions are not all that clear. What I had problems with was the recording process. By trial and error I now have it down pat. This recorder does an amazing job and I use it constantly. Now the questions is, can it hold up like all of our old video cassett recorders? I suggest you buy the extended warranty, it is cheap, expecially at Wal-Mart, only $9.00. That is well worth it to me.

I bought this recorder to convert my collection of VHS tapes to DVD and it has done the job well. I bought it to replace an older DVD recorder that no longer works so I was already familiar with how these devices work. Glad I upgraded because the quality is much better and the commands are easier to follow. I haven't completed the manual to learn all the features the recorder has, but I've been able to record and finalize DVDs without too much trial and error. So far, so good.

I found this unit very user friendly and easy to set up. It worked the very first time recording from my old DVR camera and saved me money. Get this one. It does everything you need it to.

This product works OK with Standart Defonition video output from DVRs, Settop Boxs, Camcorders, etc. However, it didnt worked the HD video source - picture format was distorded and picture quality was poor. Playing with aspect ratio on TV or DVD recorder didn't help. Finaly I concuded that this DVD recorder, like other ones I had in the past is not built for HD video.

MY TOSHIBA DVD RECORDER IS GREAT! I WAS EASY TO HOOK UP AND RECORDS ANY PROGRAM IN HD WITH A FANTASTIC PICTURE! A QUICK REMINDER THOUGH, YOU HAVE TO BUY A HDMI CABLE TO HOOK UP TO YOUR HD TV, IT DOESN'T COME WITH THE DVD RECORDER!
