Nikon Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm Zoom Lens features VR Image Stabilization, f/4-5.6G, IF-ED, AF-S, DX (#2166)
Designed exclusively for use with Nikon's DX series digital SLR cameras, the Nikon Nikkor AF-S zoom lens is ideal for sports, action, wildlife, travel, and portrait photography. Nikon's Vibration Reduction system enables you to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds — as many as 3 stops slower. An Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass element provides high-resolution images while minimizing chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion. Plus, the Nikon VR Image Stabilization DSLR Lens features Silent Wave Motor technology (SWM), which combines fast and precise auto-focusing with super-quiet operation. The Internal Focusing (IF) construction allows the Nikon zoom lens to focus without changing its external size.

I have not had a chance to use it much outdoors yet and from what i understand it will work even better because of better lighting. In a gym the pictures are not near as clear as pictures outside but i am just learning the camera so most likely it is just me not using the correct setting. The lens is still a great lens.

great lens for the money

Bought it for my trip to Yellowstone. My camera is an old Nikon D40 with kit lens. New Nikon Nikkor 55-200mm was a great help to shoot outdoors, especially animals. Pictures were sharp and clear. The lens was not a burden, though I hiked a lot. Sometimes VR mode required extra time for focusing, especially at low light condition. If you need to shoot fast turn VR mode off. With VR off this lens was as fast as my kit lens. Also, changing lenses was annoying, requires some practice. Overall for $150 it's a great addition.

Great lens for shooting wildlife and sports

This was a great value. This lens is perfect for shooting wildlife, sporting events and anything you need to get up close to from a distance. Last week I was sitting at my table having some coffee when I looked out and saw my two horses playing. Grabbed my camera and from the kitchen was able to get some awesome shots that are now hanging on my wall framed.

I recently purchased this lens and haven't used it a lot yet, however I did use it at a concert this past week and I am so very excited and pleased with the quality of the photos. It did a wonderful job!! Also works well with my sons football games. Getting better photos of him playing ball than ever before with other cameras. If you're looking for a good lens at a great price, choose this one!!

Packaged such that it easily falls out of its box

It's a good lens, but not realizing how it was packaged, it fell out of its box very easily and hit hard on the table top. Since day one, whenever using VR II and Autofocus, it sticks mid-rotation when zooming in or out. I don't think that's normal.
A busy work schedule prevented me from returning it for exchange so I guess I'm stuck with it.

I could note one of the screws a marks like the lense was fixed or something, nevertheless the lense is working pretty good so far, I am taking great pictures, I liked so much the fabric pocket case that protects very well the lense, due to the lense had some marks in the screws I will give two starts , I will continues using it and report any defect or failure of the product if required.
