WE were very disappointed in this product. It may not be working right. It did not "speak" the street names. It displayed an area on the screen that we passed thru and continued to display the name for a hundred miles. The mount is totally useless. I held it in my hand most of the time. I am returning it to Walmart today.

I bought this GPS specifically because it was the only one in stock at my local store that had the text to speech feature. Right on the box it says it speaks street names. It DOES NOT speak street names. It told me that I had a left or right turn in so many yards, but because it did not speak street names I ended up having to go around in circles more than once to get back on track. At one point it had me turning into a shopping center, rather than on a road. Several times, in Greensboro, NC, it lost its signal. I would have been much better off with MapQuest printed maps for this trip. I'm going to return this Tom Tom to the store for sure. From the Greensboro, NC airport I searched for my hotel and it was found in the POIs. But, the driving directions had me starting from my home in Indiana.

We have owned this product for quite some time now,.. I was waiting until I was really REALLY sure I could give an informed description of my experiences with this TomTom device. The biggest test for TomTom was our trip across 3 states on our trip to Yellowstone National Park.. In 2 words..... Flawless Navigation.... it passes with me with flying colors..!! It was such a help during our week long trip.. aside from the trip he also provides quite accurate direction in our everyday navigation needs... We use it everyday as just a warning for going over the speed limit..!! .. the only downside I have seen and missed from past systems is that you cannot search a business from just a phone number... but even without that feature I am 100% SATISFIED with this purchase. Two Thumbs Up..!!

Spoken directions are very clear, easy to follow, and given well ahead of turns/lane changes. Sometimes difficult to locate a POI - especially a rest area or park. predicted arrival times are not accurate; typical journey time is 25% less than gps estimates - without exceeding speed limits.

The GPS was not easy to use and worked one day and not the next. My street was not in the system(ai have lived here for 25 years) and it would continually change my home location to the last address I wanted to go to. TomTom is a good product and I now have a G630 and so far it is doing okay. Walmart took it back with no problem.

Great GPS system! Very accurate in finding addresses. Spoken street names is great too. Easy to naviagate around menus as well. When traveling on interstates, gives the speed limit of the interstate and the speed at which you're going. Cons: The connector on the bottom of the unit is somewhat hard to connect the USB cord to. Not a big deal, but you have to work it a little to connect. If I don't use it for a while, the battery drains and have to recharge it again. Not a big deal, since it has the cigarette lighter adapter.

This GPS worked flawlessly for us. I received this for Father’s day. Just before our planned driving vacation plans the first week in July 09. The text to speech works GREAT. You do have to use the "computer" voice and not the other special voices for this to work. On our trip we encountered several unplanned delays. The GPS helped us to navigate around the delays saving us several hours of sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. The only areas that we encountered that were not on the GPS were parking lots. I did have to do a little goggling to get exact lat and long points to program in because the address was not listed for the exact hotel we were looking for. There are numerous downloads and points of interest (POI) for download for free. I was unable to ever get the "free map update" feature to work but I never had the GPS with me when I called Tech Support. I didn't have time before our trip to get it updated. Now that the trip is done with maybe I will be able to get the update to work. GREAT product for the money. Really like the text to speech option available in the S model of this product. My wife did have a little more difficulty operating it. But with a little coaching she was using it like a pro in no time.

I purchased this GPS as per a Consumer Report recommended value item. Great value with very good GPS capability, BUT the voice volume(which comes pre set), could not be heard if the windows were open or the radio was on.The volume was LOW man LOW. I had to return the item.

I've had this product for about a month and use it every day. It worked right out of the box. It has done everything the manufacture said it would including speak the street names. You just have to use the computer voice. Glad I got the 4.3 screen. Makes viewing so much easier.

Not sure why people are stating the device doesn't speak street names, because it most certainly does, unless yours is faulty. CHOOSE THE COMPUTER GENERATED VOICE IN ORDER TO HEAR STREET NAMES. If you look at the size of the download next to each recorded voice, you will see that one or two have much larger downloads which means they are computer generated and WILL SPEAK STREET NAMES. I also love the fact that the volume rises when the environment is loud. My job gave me a cheap, loud car to drive and my TomTom blasts directions out so I can hear when I'm on the highway. Awesome!

I am enjoying the use of this TomTom greatly. I only wish that it had a SD memory slot like most of the other TomTom products. It is easy to use (for my wife) and gets me to where I want to go. (and does not allow me to get lost). I have only found one problem in the option to avoid freeways (which it doesn't avoid, but makes you get back on them) Other than those two unimportant things, it works like a dream.

This TomTom XL3305 portable GPS w/4.3" Screen and spoken street names is great for business delivery personnel and for personal use. When traveling it also calculates the milage and re-directs you back to the main highway when you stop for supplies. I bought one for my Daughter. She drove to visit for Christmas what should have taken 7 hours took 9 hours, since she got lost. On her way home with the TomTom she was always safe and on course. This device also gives you a since of security for loved ones. Great!

My hubbie bought me this to navigate to the endless stream of sporting events of our children. I hooked it up in our car, a few touches and I was setup. My 10 and 14 year old actually read the instructions to set it up. Not sure on the volume complaints. Mine is so loud at 70% that my daughter made me turn it down. Also there is speed adjusted volume that was VERY helpful. It compensated for the outside noises. As far as not speaking names, some voices do not and it warns you when you choose that vice that it will not speak names. I knew it would not have our street in ot. We live on a brand new street, but it let me add it and add the location as our home anyhow without a street association. There are so many features to this device that I am sure I will want to use as soon as I familiarize myself with it. I was able to use the find POI feature very easily to find the way to the local target and also to navigate to a restaurant near us. The first trip the device navigated us on the quickest route, but I didn't follow that route. I have a normal route through the hills of Amish country. I took my normal route. The device first tried to get me back to the initial route and then rerouted through the Amish country hills and calculated the route using the road I was on. All of our roads in rural Ohio were on there and also is was accurate in the large cities in Ohio. This thing is wonderful. It will be SO helpful navigating!!
