The Dohm-DS by Marpac, The Original Sound Conditioner (formerly known as the Sleepmate), is a white noise sleep sound machine that will turn sleep into a much more peaceful experience for anyone who wants it. White noise is like the soothing sound of rushing air. The Marpac Sound Conditioner 980A effectively masks unwanted noises and creates a sense of calm, making it easier to concentrate, relax or get some serious sleep. This white noise generator is recommended for restless sleepers and people who work the graveyard shift or get to bed at odd times for other reasons. It's also perfect for baby nurseries, day care centers, college dorms, apartments or any sleep environment where unwanted, disturbing or intrusive noise is a problem. The Original Sound Conditioner was first introduced in 1962 and is now in its 4th-generation design. The Dohm-DS Sound Conditioner sound screen features two speeds for greater flexibility in tone and volume.

I have very noisy neighbors upstairs and this machine keeps my 8 month old daughter sleeping. We have one in our bedroom as well. It is very soothing and easy to use!

After moving to the city I needed to drown out the noise so I opted for a fan; which I used for years. Finally I purchased the Dohm. Love it!! Its alot smaller than the picture; it sits nicely on my night stand. I like the fact you can twist it to make different tones. One review said the high button wasnt enough to drown out his noise; but I find even the low is enough. Its worth the price. Glad I bought it.

OMG!!! We LOVE this white noise machine! Our son is 6 months old is he is now going to bed at 7:00pm and sleeping till 6:00am - 7:00am!!! We attribute his new sleeping habits to this machine. We have 10 year old twin boys and they were forever waking up our 6 month old son...not anymore!!! We use a video monitor and we have to put the volume on the monitor on its lowest setting when we are going to bed because it is loud through the video monitor...small price to pay. Our nursery is approximately 10' x 10' and this product is plenty loud enough...even on the lowest setting! I would recommend this product to anyone that already has children or is planning on having children!!!

Noises bother you when sleeping?

This "Dohm" Sound Conditioner is the best invention yet. My husband has a horrible time sleeping because of the interstate trafic noise near our home. He has tried everything from ear plugs, sealing the window with foam, soft music, fans running and even those expensive headphones (but he can't sleep on his back when using them) This little system works excellent by totally illiminating the interstate traffic noise. ZZZzzz

Easy to use right out of the box. In my toddler's room in lieu of a fan for safety reasons. Does the job adequately... a bit louder than I expected- and that's at the lowest settings, but she's adjusted well. I like that it's on the small side. I expect it will travel with us on vacations and it was easy to find a spot for it in her room due to it's small footprint. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the purchase

This was my second white noise machine. My previous one lasted over 10 years and only needed to be replaced due to an electrical issue at my house. I sleep lightly and this machine perfectly covers the small noises in the house that normally would disturb my sleep. It was also very helpful in college when the apartment environment was not always conducive to studying or sleep.

Our house was just too quiet and also having trouble with Toddler going to sleep beginning at age 2.5 (he is now 3).Also would wake up during the night and cry out during his sleep. We have been using this product for about a week and he goes to sleep every night within about 10 minutes. I also believe he is getting better quality sleep as I no longer hear him crying out or talking at night while he is sleeping.

Just received the Dohm-DS by Marpac and I am very pleased with the performance of this white noise machine. Some folks have stated that it is not very loud even on high to drown out noises, I have to disagree. I have it on low every night and it does a great job! I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to have a good night sleep without noise bothering them.
One thing I was disappointed in...and it really has nothing to do with this machine...it works perfect, but I was VERY disappointed in how it was packed/shipped by Wal-Mart to me. It was only shipped in a large envelope...that wasn't even a bubble envelope but just a plain one. Also the box the machine came in..had no bubble wrap around it to protect it. How on Earth it made it in shipping without being damage is a miracle. I would think that Wal-Mart would package products like this more carefully!

Dohm Sound Machine volume issue

After reading online reviews, I expected that the Dohm-DS Sound Conditioner by Marpac would be a good replacement for an older, cheaper model. Consequently, I was surprised to find that the volume control on the Dohm unit would not reduce the sound beyond "moderately-loud", while the volume on my old unit would reduce the volume to zero if desired. In my opinion, the Dohm's minimum volume was much too loud for comfortable sleeping. I returned the unit the same day it was delivered.

We bought this for an office as it was recommended to us as a sound dampener to create a sound-proofed space for confidentiality. Completely useless. It just makes white noise; that's probably fine if you're putting an infant to sleep, but it didn't mask anything, and it sounded downright silly in an office.
