I had no problems with assembly or use. I did add some lava rock to the existing amount of rock. The cover is very poor quality and within a year there were small slits in the cover and two of the corners were pulling apart. I found a nice cover on the Orchard Supply Hardware (osh.com) website. 42" X 42" Square Fire pit Cover. High-grade polyester with PVC coating. $24.99 plus shipping. I put an old towel over the logs and rocks (after cooling) to somewhat protect the cover.
It took my husband about 1 1/2 hours total to put together. It's very sturdy and looks great on the patio. The only reason for not giving it a total of 5 stars is that several of the holes did not line up which made it difficult attaching the base at the bottom. He managed to get it to work and I think it's a great fire pit for the price. I do wish it had come with a domed lid to cover the rocks and logs. Also, I really appreciate that it arrived several days sooner than expected.

Review 3 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
Reviewed many of these fire pits before dropping down the cash. For something that starts with a switch, is clean, and provides atmosphere this is as good a product as most. About 150 lbs the surrounding table top provides space for dinnerware, a foot rest etc. construction was sturdy with braces throughout to provide stability. As many have noted, there are a lot of screws and the framework takes sometime to assemble. An Allen wrench comes with it and a #2 Phillips head screwdriver was all else needed, took me just over an hour. Flame is adjustable low to high and with the stones provides warmth and atmosphere. No sparks, no refilling, no extreme heat followed by a need to restore, and no ash.....hmmm fast, constant and stable comfort. Maybe keep an extra bottle of gas around for late entertainment just in case.

Not hard to put together. Threw away the logs as we did not like the look. Added another bag of lava rock and it seems to put out a lot more heat. Wish we would have made this purchase years ago!

As everyone else has said, the manual could be better and lining up the holes can be tricky, but like everyone also says, you really ,really, need to NOT tighten down anything until the end. Not super loose, but not tight at all. do that, and it will go much easier for you.
As for the product itself - just like everyone else says, it's solid and looks GREAT. The flame is higherand better than I expected. Personally, I did not add extra rocks, but spread the ones it came with out nice and evenly to cover the whole grill. Then put the three shorter logs on top in a triangle and laid the longest one cutting across the triangle. I was also surprised at the heat coming off; its much warmer than I expected after reading some reviews here. It's not blisteringly warm, but it'll do the trick.

Review 6 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
Takes a bit to put together, but isn't too bad. Looks great on our patio, and has decent heat output. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a propane fire pit. Don't much care for the lava rocks and fake wood, but will be replacing with fire pit rocks. Little pricey, but worth it so far.

Review 7 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
Was a little difficult to out together none of the holes lined up. Had extra screws left over because it was impossible to get them in since nothing lined up. For $500 I thought the product would be of better quality. Lets see how long ir holds up.

Extremely happy with my purchase. Fairly easy to assemble (1.5 hours) and very nice looking. So much easier and cleaner than our old wood burning fire pit.

It took an hour and a half to put it together from start to finish but the directions were difficult to read. It is very attractive but doesn't give off much heat on a cold night with the wind. The cover for it doesn't stay on because there is no elastic in it. My husband is going to build a metal cover for it instead. The surface around it doesn't get hot so that is great to set drinks on. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves to sit outside next to a fire. No smoke to contend with and easy to light.

Review 11 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
Like the look- just frustrated that I was sent three front legs and one back leg. The top is very heavy and the box is big - they were great helping me to the car and loading it in a Jeep Cherokee- anything smaller and you will be opening boxes to make it fit. I would put together near where you will use it due to the weight of the top. Hope the correct part arrives quickly as promised.

Review 12 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
the square LP fire pit was shipped to our local store. It weighs about 150 lbs so have a large SUV or pickup. The stone setting on the slate mantel was exceptional for a $500 item. The assembly instructions need better drawings as the parts are very similar. the pit itself was easy to put together but tedious. Many of the screws are hard to reach with power screw drivers so there is a lot of manual work. Once assembled it was sturdy. I would suggest buying additional "rocks" if you want the grate completely covered. Aside from the minor issues, I am extremely happy with the quality and heat output up here in the mountains.

Review 14 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
The unit looks even better on-site than in the pictures. It is comparable in quality and appearance to units in "Pool & Patio" stores selling for $750-1,200.
Assembly took about 3 hours with 2 people. Be sure not to completely tighten all of the screws and bolts until you absolutely have to. Keeping some "play" in the structure will help you get everything to fit correctly. Don't get nervous if some holes don't align at first, everything seems to come together in the end.
We did not use the ceramic logs, but instead, purchased additional lava rock to better fill the pit. With more lava rock, you get better radiating heat and can actually turn down the propane volume after 15-20 minutes and still get great heat from the unit. The extra lava rock can be purchased at the WalMart landscape department for $3-4 for an enormous bag that will give you more than enough to fill the pit.
It is extremely easy to operate and we love it . . .

Review 17 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
The fire pit exceeds exspectations. Heavy slate table. It says it weighs 165LBs. I would say about a 100LBS.One note:In the reviews someone said not to tighten the bolts down till everything is together. They were correct.I read that and put it together in 45minutes.Very sturdy and love how the tank holder glids out.Its time to party!!!!!!!!!!!

Review 18 for Square LP Gas Fire Pit with Slate Mantel
We absolutely love this firepit! It is beautiful and easy to use. The reason I gave it a four was it was really difficult to assemble. It took my husband over 7 hours to put it together because the instructions were very vague. However, once it was done it is worth it.
