For the price you pay for this surround sound system, you get exceptional quality. For someone who just wants a decent surround sound system and doesnt want to pay a ton of money this works great. It has a great variety of input ports that supports different media devices. The upconverting dvd player looks and sounds great, i have it hooked up to my plasma screen with a hdmi cable and has crystal clear image. Only cons to this system is that you don't have much control over simple things such as bass, treble, fade, and balance. Overall great product!

I purchased this system as a replacement for a sophiticated Home Theater system that was too complicated for guests at my Vacation Rental. The system is sleek and simple to use, and the IPod docking station is great for guests who want their own music.
Because the system I am replacing was a 500 W mega system, this one has far fewer of the features, but that is a good thing. The one thing I must say is that if you are an acoustic phanatic, this system will not deliver the sharp sounds and rich bass you are accustomed to, but it is adequate for most people. The antenna for FM is a shame - if the unit had a coaxial connection instead of the 3 foot wire, I would have been able to connect to my attic antenna. Since the house is in the mountains, now I only get 3 stations when my old unit was able to pick up NYC and Philly stations from attic antenna. Hope the guests like country and religious music.
Otherwise a great system that prevents your kids or guests from re-programming everything.

I needed a source of music for my husband's 30th birthday party....I was weighing all my options including a 25-disc CD changer, which would require that I buy a set of speakers and some decent party CDs (which are a waste because there are usually only 2 good songs on any given CD!!!).....
Instead, I bought this system because I saw that it had an ipod dock, and it had great value and quality reviews. I bought the system and also an ipod, which was still cheaper than buying a speaker system, a CD changer, and CDs. The ipod connects right to it in the ipod dock. I opened an itunes account, downloaded a bunch of songs from my CDs into it, and then bought some awesome hand-picked party songs from the itunes store.
The system served two awesome purposes for me - a source of music for the party, and an awesome gift of surround sound for the TV for my husband! The sound from the system not only FILLED a huge function hall, but it is now hooked up to our tv and the sound is amazing - my husband tests it out constantly by cranking the volume during movies and when we're listening to music from the ipod! He is a technology guru and he is so happy with this system!!! ALSO, it is very easy to set up - I had to give it a trial run myself to make sure I didn't need any additional wires before the party, and it was a snap!
There are no extra wires or anything required for this system! All in all, it was way cheaper, and I got the latest and greatest technology (ipod instead of CD changer). This product is well priced compared to other speaker systems, AND it has the added feature of the ipod dock!

I admit that the sound and price tag are great, but the DVD player started freezing after 10 minutes of use. I tried other DVDs that work perfectly on my other player--same problem. I had to return it and am weary about trying another one.

The speaker wire is way to short. We have an average size living room and the speaker wire on all 4 main speakers is way to short. Would expect that out of a no name brand product, but I definetly expected more out of Phillips. Would Not recommend this product at all.

Wow! I bought dis surround sound on clearence 4 $98.00. I'm glad I didn't pay dis much 4 it. It has great sound quality even at high volumes, and the subwoofer has great deep clear bass The only thing I don't care for about is da lack of controls over da speakers (the mids, highs, or lows) neither can u control da sound balance (left r rite) of da speakers. Overall it's a great product I have it hooked up to a honeywell 1080 tv da picture quality da DVD player puts out is exceptional.

had issue with item not recognizing dvd/cd. sometimes it would recognize it and another time it wouldnt. i took item back pass the 30 days return date with no problem. walmarts allowed me to do even exchange. great sound quality. alittle noisy. i havent had change to setup the new unit yet to see if it does the samething again. judging from previous reviews this maybe be a manufacture issue. i still love this item and i hope i dont have this same problem with my replacement unit.

I bought the memorex home theater system and when i got it home the speakers didn't work so I decided to spend a little more and get the phillips. I love it!!! I hooked it up in 10 minutes and put in a movie to test it out. I heard background sounds in the movie that i had never heard before! I was very impressed and it looks very sleak and nice!

This is a very easy to setup and use product, but the only thing I have noticed is when I turn the volume up to 20 or so, there is some kind of noise or something. I'm not sure if it's whether because of my PC, or maybe the connection wires are hooked up wrong?

Very easy to set up. Ordered it online received it a few days later and let me say this system does all it says it can do. The sound is amazing along with the picture. I purchased the HDMI cable which makes it even more realistic. I especially love the easy connectors for the speakers. A must have for any home!!!!

This is a great system. Straight out of the box and hooked up and working in just a couple of minutes. I love that I can take movie files off of my jump drive and play right there on my tv. The sound is great. This is well worth the dollars spent on it.

This product has really good sound especially for the price. The only drawback is that the power turns on at random times. I guess this is better than it turning off at random times. It was a birthday present for my boyfriend. He likes it and it goes well with his big flat screen tv.
