this rack is a piece of junk! its been falling apart since my daughter put it together. if you close the door, it falls apart, if you bump it by mistake, it falls apart. maybe there's a part missing b/c it barely stays together. pay a few more bucks and get a better quality rack.

I was very happy with this shoe rack. It was easy to assemble and really does hold up to 36 pais of women's shoes. I didn't put any on the very top shelf cuz it was too close to the top of the door and I am short. However, it was the perfect answer to get the shoes out of my closet where I had them in a tote. Now I just have tennis shoes and boots in the totes. My heels and flats are easy to display and grab. Makes deciding on the perfect shoe to wear much easier!

I couldn't be happier !! After searching high & low for a well-made rack that would fit on a thicker door (almost 2" thick), this Whitmor is the best - well-made, with grippy bars that shoes don't slip off of & ease of assembly.Bought one first from The Container Store,one of two that claimed to adjust for a thicker door,only to find you have to snap a metal bracket with pliers(almost impossible), then screw the bracket into the top of the door. This rack was returned, needless to say !
I then ordered the Whitmor one. The company sent me a pair if brackets(metal, not plastic!)to fit my door, free of charge & were so nice to deal with !! The rack went together easliy & sturdily & has flip-up arms that allow you to put boots or bulkier shoes on any rung, a feature I've never seen before on these racks. Love it !
After assembling it, I called the company to thank them for such a well-made product. Such a joy in a world of cheap, flimsy stuff. Thanks again, Whitmor !!!

This is a sturdy over-the-door rack that holds a surprising amount of shoes! Easy to assemble. The only thing that deters, and it reflects my door more than the product, is with the brackets on the top of the door, the closet door doesn't completely close. Need to plane the top of the door to solve.

Don't waste your money

The idea of this design is good, but it needs some major changes. It's cheap plastic and the bars just barely fit into the brackets, the slightest move and they fall out of the holes dropping all the shoes to the floor. If they would have just made the bars screw on or snap into place for a more secure fit I would be happy with this product, even being made of cheap plastic. The barely fitting bars ruin it. I'm thinking about returning the rack for a refund.

I am a female adult size 7.5 shoe and I've found that the racks more easily fit two pairs than three, but you can definitely do a little overlapping to make them fit. I would not say this rack would hold 36 pairs of men's sneakers/shoes though.
You can raise/fold a rack up to fit taller shoes, but I just put my rain boots and cowboy boots on the top rack to save space.
Comes with velcro stickers to stick the rack to the door but I didn't use them, just the over the top part works great. You can still close your door completely with this rack.

Great product, easy to put together, easy to slide onto door. Seems very sturdy, but then again shoes don't weigh much. I more than doubled my shoe storage - previously had one of those over the door pocket shoe holders. Room for a few more shoes.
Comes with velcro pieces to keep from rubbing on door and keep in place - they were round instead of rectangular which I thought kinda wierd based on the design of this product but they work.
Wider toed shoes - harder to get three across laying perfectly flat. Mostly my flats/tennis shoes.

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure out that the secret to keeping the shoes in place is to keep them toe-out. For the longest time, we did toe-in. We've had trouble with some of the rods popping out from time to time but it only seems to be an issue on a couple of the rows. I was pretty happy with this item until our toddler decided it was fun to start yanking on the thing. He pulled the lower anchors lose and I have not been able to come up with anything that will keep this thing secured to the door. We've tried something from 3M. I even made a go of it with duct tape. (Yeah, I'd laugh at me too.) That sort of worked until the toddler came along again. Without the velcro holding the bottom against the door, the shoes go all over the place. So the moral of the story is, if you don't have kids and put the shoes on the right way, this thing is pretty great. If you have kids, I suggest you go for a wall-mounted model. Also, it definitely does impact your ability to fully open the door if it's in a corner like ours.

Put this together in about 10 minutes. It will fit 2 pairs of shoes on each tier (male or female sized shoes, doesn't hold sandals very well). I have this hanging on the inside of my closet door and as long as I leave about 8 inches of space between my clothes and the door the shoes won't fall off. Over all good buy for the money.

I have three of these at my house because they are fabulous! Sturdy, holds lots of shoes of all sizes and heights, including boots, with the fold up or down "rungs." Doesn't rattle when I open/shut the door. Easy to assemble. I ordered this one as a gift for a friend who is moving to a small apartment in NYC. She is delighted. I bought others at another retailer but Walmart's price was a bit less.
I have tried other shoe racks and storage devices - the racks with pockets don't fit many shoes, and forget boots. The store under the bed zipper ones simply don't work (I cut the dividers out of mine and now use it for quilt storage..)
Two drawbacks: One is that once you put the side rails together you can't undo them without damage, but unless you need to pack it in a suitcase you shouldn't need to take it apart. Second is that if your door frame is flush on the end of a wall (no space behind your door when you open it) your shoes will bump the wall and you may not get the door open all the way. Still worth it in my book if you need to get those shoes off the floor!

Great for apartments with little closet space

First I must tell you that, although you need no tools to assemble this shoe rack, you do need two people. I did it by myself but it took me three hours to be able to finish it. I will try to be brief. First you put together the right and left sides. That was easy and a no brainer. The second step: Putting the sticks in each hole on one side. That wasn't too bad either. But then, ahhhh, this is where a second person comes in handy. You need to place the left side rack on top of the spindles which are already in place in the right side of the rack. When I would put one spindle in, another one would pop out. Hence you need two people. But I must say, after all was said and done, after much sweating and frustration, I did achieve success. Now I am happy with the results.

This shoe rack is just what I needed. It meets all of my expectations, easy to put together, fits perfect over the door I wanted to put it on and holds more shoes than I have. Living in a condo I have limited storage so I wanted to make room in my walk-in closet by removing the shoes from the boxes and shelves. Very pleased with this purchase.
