Easy to transfer mp3 files from a computer to the device via Media Player or just using My Computer to copy and paste the files to the directory on the device. It translates the file names accurately to the Artist, Title, and Album categories. Perhaps a bit on the high side as far as price goes but acceptable considering the ease of use.

I'm not a ipod user...and not planning to even use one in the furture. I own a zune its ok not so great it kind of big and drain a lot of batterys if your watching movies, but i still love it. Unlike the Sony one its small easy to carry especially when your working out. Doesn't drain a lot of battery, and it's really great!

this thing has the best sound ever, much more than what you would get with an ipod. the earphones are phenomenal. with a freq range of 5hz up to 24khz, it sounds like you are at the studio they stay in your ears very well even while running miles and miles at a time. the video picture on this thing it awesome. with its ultra bright 30 frames per second screen, you cant beat it. Dayton Oregon pirates rock!!!

These are great little MP3's, you can design your own playlists on Windows Media Player & then send it to your Sony and hear your faves in any order you like (it keeps all your songs in the main music folder, so finding them quick when you have alot can be hard) and when you get tired of them you can edit it and change it around or add new songs to an existing playlist...too cool!! I use this when I run & at work hooked up to 2 lil speakers on my desk, I love it! I haven't found any compatible video to put on yet, but I've only had it like a month. I would suggest this to anyone who likes good sound, Sony is BEST!

Sound quality on this player is EXCELLENT. Every type of music sounds very very good. It has 2 custom EQ settings so I can have one for my over-ear headphones and one for my Shure in-ear headphones -- although the sound quality is excellent at default levels, I tweak the high end for the Shure EQ setting. Video quality is pretty good, but I'm still trying to find the best way to encode video (Nero Recode 2 seems to work the best). Battery life is excellent, and the menus are easy to navigate. The negative, and to me this is a big negative, is you can't delete music or video from the player, you have to delete them while it's connected to the computer -- LAME, very lame. Also, you can't rate songs or make playlists from the player. If sound quality is a big factor for you, you won't be disappointed with this player. If Sony releases a firmware update to include a delete function, I would rate this player 5 stars.

MY STORY: When I decided that I wanted to purchase my first MP3 player I went through extensive researching to find the "perfect one". I compared MP3 players using Consumer Reports and CNET ratings. Although this model is new and there were no ratings for it from Consumer Reports, CNET compared it to the NWZ-A818 which earned the CNET Editor's Choice Award 2007, they said that it was better than the NWZ-A818. (By the way, the NWZ-A818 is rated #1 for Consumer Reports). I initially was set on buying the SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB, but some of the reviews changed my mind about that one. I also looked at the Samsung P2 4GB and the Creative Zen 8GB, but again, there were some shortcomings from those choices. So, I finally decided that it was between the Sony NWZ-A818 and the Sony NWZ-A728 and I picked the NWZ-A728 mainly because of the brand that has never let me down with other electronic devices and secondly because of the CNET review that said it was better than the NWZ-A818.
CONS: I haven't encountered any problems with it other than the fact that the album/cover art (image of the cover of a CD) does not display on the MP3 so, the default Walkman thumbnail icon displays in its place. I'm not sure why it doesn't - on Windows Media Player it shows all the album/cover art just fine, maybe I'm doing something wrong. This doesn't affect any technical aspect of it, it's just for looks mostly, but it would be nice to see the album/cover art of each CD when I'm browsing for songs on my MP3.
PROS: Other than that minor problem, it is just fantastic! The included headphones are very good. (No need to purchase additional headphones like with many other brands!) The headphones come with 3 interchangeable earpieces, (small, medium and large). The sound on this player is phenomenal!!! It also includes a USB cable, software (Media Manager), and a little stand. It works easily with Windows Media Player using drag and drop, and it Syncs very fast. I haven't used the Media Manager that it came with, the WMP works just fine for me. It also works well with Wal-mart Music Downloads.
CONCLUSION: Overall, this is a great brand, and if you want simplicity, function, style, space, sound, clarity and reliability while being reasonably priced, the Sony NWZ-A728 is a wise choice!!!
**Wal-mart exceeds my expectations for fast shipping and Customer Service!!!**
