We love our new Phillips 47" HDTV !! We have had a RCA 36" tube tv for over 20 years and since it was Analog we thought it would be the right time to change to Digital, especially with the changes coming. It took us several months to decide on this TV but we couldn't be happier with our choice. We just had Dish Satellite installed and wow it's like being at the movies !! We plan to purchase Phillips surround sound system to enhance the sound quality.

I bought this tv to use both as a new monitor for my HTPC (computer), and to watch tv on.
It looked like a good value for what you get: a 47 inch tv with 1080p/1920x1080 resolution.
Upon buying i wasn't sure if PC hookup was an option. The sales placard said it supported a pc, but there are no native pc inputs (ie VGA/DVI). I had to buy a DVI -> HDMI cable to hook it up. Now it works great. PC games look unreal on a 47 inch screen. one small note, is if you are using a pc, you will need to hook the audio into a seperate device (i use the auxillary input on my stereo).
HD tv looks awesome, and non hdtv looks no worse then before. I use my pc to upconvert dvd's. considering getting a blu-ray drive. I imagine blu-ray looks pretty nice.
Pros: -Great picture/sound. Good value -tons of inputs. built in mp3 player/picture viewer via usb input -Size is great. it is much easier to plug/unplug things, compared to a boxy tube-tv. -Matte finish helps reduce glare -full 1080p
Cons: -No Picture in picture -automatic sizing sometimes gets confused on analog (non-hd) stations, this can be fixed by setting the picture format to 4:3 or something other then automatic.

LCDs are still high priced. This one is a great TV. A bit on the heav side though. Has component inputs ,S video and wonderfully three HDMI inputs. This gives you HD TV, blue ray DVD and my Netflix box.

I love it. The picture is great, it is too bad I don't have HD with my DVD or VCR yet. I got the PS3 which plays HD in the games or Blue Ray. The picture does switch to different screen sizes but I think this is a signal problem. The TV boost the antanas signal and makes the reception better, too.

This Philips set is a steal at this price. There is nothing else out there offering the features or performance at this price. I did the "site to store" thing & couldn't have been more pleased. The TV arrived in just over a week, was in perfect condition, & was easy to set-up. You can't go wrong with this TV!!

TV was delivered on 9-22, hooked up on 10-4 (we moved). The side controls do not work. Not a good sign for a TV we just purchased and took out of the box. Makes you wonder what else might happen. I am calling Wal-Mart tomorrow to get a replacement TV. Hopefully this doesn't happen with the next one.

Since I only have this TV between 2-3 weeks, I couldn't tell if it is going to be a reliable product. Time will tell and I hope if and when I need service, Funai will provide timely and good service. There are more than enough inputs for this TV with 4 hdmi, component video, Svideo and composite video available on the back and the side of the TV. On the right side of the TV, there are manual controls for channel selection and on/off button and sound volume. I bought a Philips DVP5992 dvd player with upconvert and connect to this TV with an hdmi cable. When you insert a dvd into this player, it is smart enough to inform the TV to switch to the hdmi input connected to the dvd player, nice. I upgraded the firmware of this TV from version 1.11 to version 1.13. This is done easily by using a computer, either a Mac or Pc and downloading the firmware to an usb thumb drive. The drive is then inserted into the usb port at the left side of the TV. Just follow the instructions on the TV screen to complete the upgrade. A very nice feature of this TV is the jpeg slide show viewer. Just put your jpegs into a usb thumb drive and insert the drive into the left usb port of the TV and follow the instructions on the screen. The display is in colorful high-res and is very natural looking. You want to resize your jpeg to be as close to 1280X1024 as possible. If you're using a Mac, select the large-image size for export. This way, the TV does not have to do much resizing to fit the screen. Resizing happens if you supply it with original high resolution images and it will slow down the slide show considerably. A week later, I notice a stuck red pixel. It is only noticeable if you really look at it closely and also it appears only on a light background. For all intents and purposes, it is unnoticeable at 5 feet or normal viiewing distance of 10-15 feet. I can tolerate a problematic pixel among millions on this screen and is a non-issue. The sound quality is adequate but to get really good sound you can either connect the coax digital output to a contemporary receiver or amp or connect a headset cable to the earphone input on the side and connect the rca stereo plugs to an amp. Overall, I think the picture is very good, especially in hi-def. On a side-by-side comparison with other TVs such as Sony or Samsung, it is hard to say the few hundred dollars extra is worth the difference, which I think is hardly distinguishable. This model does not have the 120Hz feature. So far, I have not noticed any unacceptable pixelation effects due to fast motion video source. I believe though the input source is the key to such artifacts, if the video source is highly compressed, you are likely to see this artifact, 120Hz or not. If you are paying $100 more for 120Hz, by all means get it, but if not, probably not worth $200-$300 more for 120Hz feature. Overall, highly recommendable and satisfied with the look, features and functions of this TV.

tv is nice only one thing that is wrong with it when you change the channel there is a box that takes up alot of the picture on the left side {so the picture is blocked} that says the settings the tv is set up to and what channel its on and there is no way to get rid of it.I called Philips and they said sorry but there is no way to take that off.It goes away after about 5 seconds

I bought this tv in august and was disappointed by how blurry it was with my direct tv. I called to ask why it was like this and was told their is an update to my tv thta needs to be installed. The information on the phillips website is compressed and I could not get it to be recognized by my tv throigh the ubc port so they are sending me another stick. I really think that 1000 is too much for me to have to spend more time calling and installing software. Thsi should have been done in the factory!!!

I have been searching for the perfect tv for some time now and finally i can breath easy! The picture quality is outstanding in 1080p (which if youre debating between 1080i and 1080p, the full HD is worth the extra bucks!) and the size is just right for a movie watching experience!!! BUY IT AND ENJOY IT!

this is the first time i have had a HD television. I chose a 47" Philips HD. The color is great just as if you were sitting right their. It has such a clear sound and sharp picture. I would recommend this to any one and it is so easy to program in....
