Enjoy the full potential of HDTV plus digital broadcasts on this advanced model. The tuner can receive conventional analog channels (NTSC) and the new digital channels (ATSC), including over-the-air HDTV broadcasts, where available, and unscrambled digital cable channels. Note: You must have a source of HD programming in order to take full advantage of an HDTV. Otherwise, the picture quality of an HDTV without an HD source may not be much better than that of a standard-definition TV. Please contact your local cable or satellite TV provider for details on how to upgrade to HD programming.

We held off buying a big screen LCD TV for a long time. We wanted something big enough for our large room but didn't want to pay a big price. We found this at Walmart for $798 a few weeks ago. We have been very happy with it. How can you beat the price?!!
It was easy to set up. Some reviews have commented on a grainy picture. We sit 10-12 feet from the TV and the picture is fine. (Plus it was only $789!!). The picture is really on DVDs. We only have digital cable, but will switch to HD soon.
One of the reasons we selected the LCD intstead of a Plasma, is the weight. At 53 lbs, most Plasmas weigh twice that.

I bought this at a Pre Black-Friday sale for about $800. I thought it would be worth the risk for that price on a screen this size. I have had it setup in a mid-size master bedroom for about two weeks.
The fact of the matter is the picture quality for all signals below 1080p are fair to middling, at best, on this set. I have digital cable (Cox), an hd dvd player, and a PS3, all hooked up to this set via HDMI cables. The picture quality of HD movies at full 1080p via either the PS3 blu-ray or HD DVD look good on this set.
Unfortunately, anything below the 1080p signal is very grainy (especially noticeable closer that 10 ft from the screen). This includes the HD channels delivered from the digital cable set top box with a confirmed 1080i signal. Standard definition (480p) is almost unwatchable from anywhere inside of 10 feet from the television. Customization options for the picture also seem extremely limited. Text on the cable guide appears blurry regardless of picture setting ( this could be Cox's fault, but this feature looks much better on other HDTVs in the home).
I have not yet attempted to connect a computer or lower-end game consoles (Wii or PS2) to this monitor. I have not configured any component or composite connections. Nor have I attempted to connect any analog sources or any over-the-air HD stations. So, I can't really comment on those applications.
Sound quality is good enough for stand-alone applications. This is actually pretty good compared to several higher end sets that almost require a separate audio set up to be heard as intended. Decent base-level and voices come across clear and understandable from all sources. Noise leveling function actually appears to work via HDMI (i.e. no overly loud commercials).
As a side note: This set has a very nice variety of options for captioning that allows for the control of how your subtitles appear on the screen. Text performance is varied, but with the large number of choices of fonts, colors, transparency options, etc., you can customize this feature to suit your needs to a tee. Very nice touch IMO.
In summary, console games and movies from a true HD source are good looking and have decent sound. There are a good number of connections, and a large screen size for a bargain price.
If using this in a mid-size home theatre or entertainment room (12-18 feet viewing area) for high-def movies or games is the main intention of this set, you may have found yourself a good deal.
However, I would warn against this set for everyday TV watching in a smaller room, as the picture quality does not support up-close standard-def (or even higher def) cable signals very well. Good luck.

I purchased this Sanyo 46" LCD HDTV last saturday. Even though I had to wait 2 1/2 hrs to buy it, it was worth it. I would recommend this TV because of its pure size and quality. This TV is very underrated for what it can do. It has 3 HDMI connections and 2HDinput componet connections. I still have not purchased the HDMI wires but even with just the HD components I get an awesome picture. The sound is great with clarity and superior surround sound capability. For the price you can't beat the quality of TV you will be getting.

We researched a 1080p LCD HDTV for a couple weeks. We were about to purchase the Sanyo 42" and got an e-mail notification for a in store 8 AM sale for the 46" for $798. We got to the store an hour early only to realize there was a lot of people showing up. We got a number and waited in line. Glad of the purchase and had it up and running in a few hours. My local reception was bad on last TV, and we had diredt tv. To my surprise after connecting everything and doing a setup search for local chanels, it found all local chanels in digital signal and HDTV over the air, without Direct TV. This is our 1st HDTV and very pleased. We will be adding the $9.95 monthly charge for HDTV signaling from direct TV so we can se more HDTV than our local channels. No more snowy picture on our locals, that's great. In my opinion this is a great buy. Our last RCA 32" tube television was 13 years old. Still works and we will move it to another room. I hope the SANYO lasts. We bought the 2-yr extended warranty for an extra $59.

My husband & I just purchased this TV over this past weekend for the pre-Black Friday sale...I seen the advertisement for a 46" 1080p LCD HDTV for $798(+tax=about $865) and I nearly fainted...I couldn't believe it & I knew we just had to have it. Well as you may know, for most door buster events you have to get to the store hours before opening, since they only had 7 available at our Walmart for that spectacular price. Got on the agonizing line, got my ticket and my TV....OH HAPPY DAY!!!... Got home and the sceptisim started kicking in...I had to open it ASAP, to check it...and low & behold it was every thing I expected and more...setting the TV up was a breeze...all we had to do is take it out the box and hook it up to our HD cable box and we were straight...We also have my 1000 hdmi to hdmi monster cable ( I recommend every one to get one of these for TOP quality from your HD tv) and I connected it....I swear it was like it had a halo over it with harp strings playing in the background...lol. All in all it's worth every penny...& maybe even my blood....:o)

If you don't have HD box, don't purchase this tv. It is being returned as we speak. Picture quality was awful except for cartoons. The color was nice sometimes but a very grainy picture.
It got better if you shrunk the picture down but why pay for a 46" to watch a 32" and have a big black border.
Channels were slow to change and we hated the remote.

After deciding on a 42" Vizio LCD, I went to my local Wal-Mart to discover that they had a huge sale on this 46" Sanyo. The television itself is a great product. It has a clear picture (when far away...it's a little blurry up close) and has no nonsense features. It was very easy to set up, pretty much just a "plug-n-play". My only issue is the size. Unless you have a fairly large room and will be seated farther than 10 feet away from the tv., this one may not be for you. This television is very large, is a little too large for our purposes and is difficult to find an entertainment center to match it under $500.00 (because of the size). But, all in all, a great tv with a clear picture, so far, everything appears to be great with it.

Good value as far as picture size for the money; however the quality of the picture was unsatisfactory. Perhaps the room is too small for a TV of this size. Returned to Walmart and exchanged for a 42" Sanyo. Picture quality of 42" is excellent.

I bought this television about a week ago and three days after I received it the picture started going out. I could hear the sound, but could not see a picture. I'm a little disappointed that I'm having to return the TV back to the store but I will give another one a try before I switch brands.

After researching televisions...LCD v. Plasma; 720i v. 1080i and amounts of HMDI ports, I finally decided to purchase this Sanyo. I have never been happier. It took five minutes to get the set out of the box; another three minutes to read the installation manual and another three minutes to plug in the sources and watch a great picture. I selected two buttons and the set found all my audio/video sources. Wal-Mart's price beats any local store for this item by about $400. The shipping fees were extremely low.

The TV is nice. Unfortunalety, ever since I got it, the HD box from the cable company has had problems ever since so I haven't truely enjoyed it to the fullest yet. This TV was 500 less than others this size and is worth it. Home delivery was sooooo long and I couldn't track it. Buy from the store if you can, otherwise it will be over two weeks til you receive it.

I have a 32" Sanyo LCD 2 years ago that I have been very happy with. I bought the 46" recently and I was very unhappy with the picture. Don't know if it was just the one I bought, because it looked pretty decent at Walmart. Color wasn't great, picture wasn't really great, even with HD hookup. I do recommend Sanyo for the smaller LCD...good value, good customer service, and pretty good picture. I returned it the next day and got a Vizio from Sam's...42". Awesome picture, very, very happy with it.

after months of searching for the perfect LCD and two bad experiences with the VIZIO brand, i decided to get the SANYO 46" 1080P and I'm impressed with the picture quality, got it hooked up in 10 min Hd channels looks awsome, remote control is very easy to use. If your thinking about getting a flat screen this one is dafinetly a good buy and it's on sale now for $1,098.00. JUST DON'T BUY VIZIO... i own three sanyo tv's and one of them is over 10 yrs. old and still working HOPEFULLY THIS ONE WILL LAST THAT LONG!!!
