As a psych major, I've always had a fascination with abnormal psychology. If you enjoy this book, then I highly recommend "When Rabbit Howls," which is about another woman in the 80's being diagnosed with multiple personalities (now known properly as D.I.D.) when no one really even knew what it was. She was originally misdiagnosed as bipolar, manic depressive, and other disorders that were WAY off base.
These are both great books for insight into an often misunderstood and misdiagnosed rare disorder.
