Not bad, not bad at all, 07/03/2008

It's not a bad deal. I mean, the books seperately or in the sleeve would have cost me over 100 dollars from the local gaming shop, and as much as I love to support them, I'm not even close to being willing to pay 100 dollars for something I can get for 60.

The new system is cool, but I haven't played it enough to know if it has the same long-term appeal as previous versions.

The books themselves are laid out quite nicely, and some of the material is nice. Some changes (moving the Tarrasque to "Abolition" or whatever) weren't so great at first, while others (putting a pre-made dungeon and adventure in the DMG, moving magic items to the PHB to free room in the DMG for DMing tips, etc) were quite nice.

It does tend to lean towards listing distances in squares, which in turns leans towards emphasizing miniatures- not too much of a problem, we use graph paper instead, but someday I'd like to try the full deal.

Overall I'm very satisfied with it and look forward to future material releases.

I couldn't wait to get these books, and am so pumped now that they are here. It will take some getting used to, as there are lots of changes from 3.5....but I'm sure it will be worth it. So much to read, so little time!

The game is tons of fun and simple, yet complex enough to keep you occupied for a long time! And it feels like D&D. 4e truly surpasses expectation.
