Assembly required: moderate. Attach front wheel, place handlebar in chasis & straighten and tighten, adjust breaks.
Batteries: lead-acid & the manufacturer says to care properly for them they must be fully recharged immediately after each use or they will quickly deteriorate. Properly cared for in this manner they say you can expect 100-200 charges or "about a year" of use. Charge current used: charger says 1.5 amps, or about 180 watts with 120 volt current. Charging typically several hours up to 6-8 hours. So typically charging will eat a half or full kilowatt hour, typically between 5 and 15 us cents per charge at current rates. Replacement batteries about $75 usd. Performance: I am 160 lbs adult - ok on flat and inclines, but will barely manage a steep hill, even if short. Story seems to be longer endurance for moderate terrain. Steep hills I recommend more powerful motor. Commuter use of this machine to be yet proven. Necessity to recharge immediately after use means it has to be charged both at work and at home. 200 charges @ two charges a day gives you much less than a year of commuting. It will not go anywhere near claimed distance with normal but moderate speed. Plan on half to a third of claimed. Brake not high performing. You must really squeeze hard - only back break. As a toy I can vouch my son loves it. Best of luck.

I bought this for my son's 12th birthday and it is so awesome I have been borrowing it to run to the store and gym to save gas. It is worth every penny. the only thing I needed to add was a head light and rear light for safety. And did I mention he LOVES IT!!!

I originally bought the Schwinn 4.0 model, but returned it because it was weak (I barely met the 180 weight limit) and too short for me to stand up properly (I am 5'8''). I got this scooter instead, and it meets all my expectations! They warn that using the throttle at full power greatly reduces your range, however this was not a problem for this model. The 15mph is more than enough; I have to use it at half power just to control it. My friend has trouble keeping up on her bike. In my small town, nothing is more than 3 miles away, so the 8 mile range works perfectly for me. The electric power is a great in-town alternative to a gas-guzzler.
