We use this to surround our wood burning stove and hearth to keep our 7 month old away. Very strong, and stable, without even mounting to the wall its not going anywhere. Has a little gate in it (the full product does anyway) that allows you easy access to the area closed off. Can also be used as a play yard around your child. We liked the metal version over the plastic ones also available b/c of the better durability. This is a two piece extension to the 3in1 Metal superyard we bought at a local Walmart. The overall system is easy to use, although adding the two new pieces in took a bit of elbow grease, now that its together it works great.

We bought the extension so that we could extend across a long span. So far we have used it only as a self-contained unit. It is very sturdy and is working very well for us. One comment: my four-year-old son figured out in no time how to open the gate. So it is not "preschooler proof." Not that it claims to be, but it is something to be aware of if you have older children.
