This was nothing like what I expected. The only reason the end of the movie was seen, was because my wife was watching it, also. She liked it, I didn't care for it. It's not his typical comedy you would expect.

The reason this movie is getting bad reviews is not because Steve Carell or the movie itself was anything but good, but because Steve Carell's out of the ordinary performance threw viewers for a loop. No, "Dan in Real Life" is not Carell's usual goofy comedy; however, instead it is rather gentle, and real. The movie is also not a typical romantic comedy because it's simple, yet unpredictable. If one watches the movie without thinking it's going to be silly and crazy like most of Carell's movies, it's understandable that they might think they're not getting it.
