Add this Midland EP102 Emergency Crank Radio has everything you need to stay connected and informed during emergency situations. It has a dynamo crank, which can be used to recharge radio and flashlight when there is no power. This weather alert radio keeps you informed with the weather developments with the NOAA 7 channel All Hazards/Weather Alerts or to the local AM/FM broadcasts. It uses LED flashlights to alert the visually impaired. This hand crank radio has a USB port that allows you to charge various cell phones and electronic devices. It also has a clock with 12 hour display, alarm, and snooze functions. The Midland EP102 Emergency Crank Radio features a backlit LCD display, and you can easily view the numbers even in low light conditions. This Midland Crank Radio comes with the carrying strap, AC adapter with cord, and a user manual.
I got this specific crank radio because it has the option to charge other devices via USB and using the crank function. It WORKS! woohoo! its a nice feeling knowing my "man power" of turning a crank can make electricity (if only a little bit) to charge other devices.
Note: The battery comes disconnected, make sure to connect the battery before crank charging it otherwise your awesome man/woman powers will be of little use.
The NIMH rechargeable battery that saves the power your crank into it doesn't come fully charged which was a little disappointing. But it does have the option to use Alkaline batteries for the time being while crank charging the other ones. The NOAA stations come in crystal clear even without extending the antenna.
There is a small glitch i noticed: IF the battery is dead and you start to crank to charge the battery, the radio automatically turns on to the NOAA radio station and plays despite the fact the Dial is set to off. The fix, after you get a few good cranks in is to "play along" and turn the dial to on, then switch it back to off. Then continue your crank charging.

Review 6 for Midland Emergency Crank Radio with AM/FM and Weather Alert
It is a bite more costly than I think it should be, it does have everything rechargeable battery's flashlight , weather band, can run off 3 AA battery's , can charge battery by crank hass am & fm radio.and you can plug into an outletbt recharge also. Like I said except for the price it is good if it was made in the U.S.A I would say okay to the price. Bought it for my second home.

I thought that the digital display ment that I would get a better signal lock but it just appears that way..i still had to turn the knob to tune like the primitive tuners no digital up and down tuning..other than I cant stay tuned to the station I really wanted to hear...It is a great radio if you have a strong signal...the emergency weather stuff worked really well as did everything else but it wasn't what I really bought it for..I will keep it for emergencies and be happy to have it!! hope this helps!

Product good, instructions poor

The product is excellent and just what I needed. But the instructions are not good at all. Far too technical and not practical. I downloaded the manual and it's no better. The diagram of the front is excellent, but there is no diagram of the back, and I needed to know what was behind the little black flap. Also the instruction for plugging in the rechargeable battery pack was not explicit and I needed that.

Review 11 for Midland Emergency Crank Radio with AM/FM and Weather Alert
Does not last

I purchased the Midland emergency radio about two years ago as a hurricane preparedness supply. Thought I would grow old with it. Nice features, decent sound, great weather band reception. Tuner is very sensitive. Now ... AC adapter does not work. Provides no power, no charge. Crank does nothing. It does work on AA battery power, but I purchased it due to the multiple power options and liked the thought of not having to continually replace AA batteries. And the ones I left in the radio previously leaked (duracells, not dollar store batteries). Looked around for a replacement of the NiMh (ala cordless phone) battery. The only ones I found that MAY work cost near twenty dollars (did not risk it). It's not a total loss as it does work with AAs, but for the price, I truly expected more. I do not recommend this radio.

Great Gift

Bought this for our son and daughter-in-law who live in a beach community. They were concerned about loosing power during Irene and not being able to charge their cell phones. This will give them the peace of mind that they can charge them with this device. Having a radio that can be powered in various ways is helpful when you don't know how long you'll be without power. Not sure how well it operates since it was a gift and not used yet.

Have not need to use in in an emergency yet, so not sure if it will meet all my expectations. Good to know I could hang crank a light, radio and charge my cell phone. Hope to never need to use the siren! Someone already has decided to buy one after seeing mine.

The AC adapter did not work so consequently the rechargeable batteries would not charge and the radio would not work on AC power. I don't know if it's the adapter or the radio. Received it on Friday--taking it back on Monday. If given the opportunity, I would have rated it even lower. I would definitely NOT recommend this to a friend.
