I CANNED TOMATOES THE FIRST WEEK THAT I HAD THIS CANNER I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH MY OUTCOME OF PRODUCT AND THE RECIPE BOOK THAT COMES WITH THE CANNER IS GREAT FOR FIRST TIME CANNERS IT HAS A VERY GOOD STEP BY STEP DIAGRAM THAT IS EASY FOR ANYONE TO FOLLOW. Great kit for first time learners of canning foods. Everything is there to get you started. My biggest worry was how to can food without causing some kind of bacteria. the book and equipment took all the worries out. Must buy for anyone that is just learning.

I read enough reviews to know that the rack is for quarts only and that the jars are actually pints. This isn't exclusive to the Walmart site...anywhere that sells this kid has the same issue. So no surprise. This was a very good price, especially with site-to-store free shipping. It's exactly as expected. I tried to improvise with the rack, but find that I don't really like it even with quart jars. So I'm ordering a new rack that works for all sizes.
Overall, it's exactly as I expected and I'm really enjoying the recipes that came with it. A very good starter set, just throw out the rack and get a different one! :)

Like most average americans I'm finding ways to stretch my money, and growing some of my own food and making it last longer than the growing season seems like one good way of doing that. The Ball Home Canning kit was a good start in that direction since I have never done any canning and didn't have anything to start with. I will need to pick up some quart jars, but other than that I'm very happy with this prchase. The cookbook that came with the kit will be very helpful.

As so many others have said, the pint jars Walmart sends with this canner don't actually fit the rack. When canning season starts, I'll experiment with ways to stablize the pint jars.
On the other hand, the canner is perfect for quarts, which I prefer to can, anyway. It has plenty of head space for boiling water coverage, which is important. If this product were truly designed only for pints, then I would be disappointed!
I am also very pleased with the "Blue Book" manual that came with the canner. Great information and recipes!

This canning kit really makes it easy to can fruits and sauces. Though the jar basket doesn't fit all my sizes of jars, it works well enough. I just kind of fiddle the jars about and go with it. I purchased this canning basics set, because I want to can the vegitables from my garden so my family can enjoy them throughout the winter. I didn't know anything about canning so I decided to order this set, to get me started. I wasn't anticipating how big the canner was going to be, but it turned out great because I could fit larger jars in there. and all the untensils that came with it, were put to use! I think this was the perfect buy for a beginner canner like myself, and hope this summer's harvest is huge so I can really put it to work. I am so glad it came with the Ball blue book of canning, and all the untensils because now I won't have to buy any. and was so happy it came with some jars and the rack as well. I will definitely save more money in the long run, even more than what I paid for it.

The kit was recommended to me by several seasoned homesteaders/canners. I knew that there was one problem about the kit before I purchased it: the pint jars.
I was told beforehand that the pint jars would slip through the openings of the rack. The rack was made for quart-sized jars.
I made my first batch of canned tomatoes with the kit. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the results from using the kit.

When I couldn't find any Jalepeno jelly at the store I decided to make it myself. My first batch was done with my spaghetti pot to boil the jars nd the directions on the Certo box, etc. It was primitive and difficult but the resulting product was delicious. I decided then and there to get better equipment. The Canning set is so complete and the cookbook is terrific. I can't wait to try other things. For me, this is truly some old fashioned fun. Not to mention a saving over the store bought variety. Thank you so much for putting everything I needed into one package.
