It just works. I'm using a Mac and just plugged it in. Best price around; I had it shipped to the house and it arrived in half the predicted time. Not much bigger than a portable, and the extra cost over 500 gig. was peanuts.

This product didn’t work 2 weeks after I bought it. At the beginning there wasn’t a problem with My Book, but suddenly when I wasn’t even saving anything in the hard drive, My Book started making sounds like it was trying to spin several times and then just stopped. The product isn’t recognized by any PC. It’s going to cost me more than $600 dlls to recover my data. And Western Digital says they aren’t responsible for any lost data. Therefore, my suggestion is, don’t buy this product!!! This is the first hard drive I ever had, and believe me, I did MY RESEARCH!!! It took me one month to investigate some of the products on the market, and the best one I found at this price was WD. I obviously took the wrong decision, and now I have to pay for my mistake. So be careful when you are thinking to buy any WD hard drive.

This drive is a great buy for the money. Be sure to re-format when you receive it, to avoid the trial software that is loaded on the drive. Easy, plug and play, anyone can do it. This has allowed me to store my photos, videos and music off of the main computer drive, ,without having to burn a disk.

Connected the 1 TB drive to Dish DVR 722k and it works great. Dish "online tech info" says that only a max of 750GB drive can be connected but telephone tech support verified that 1 TB will work "but not more than". (as of 8/16/09). Go into manage my media and Dish will automatically format the drive. So far all is well. Dish does move the recorded programs off of the DVR hard drive so there is no double back up of programs. Having gone through 2 622 DVRs and losing all my programs I am hoping this drive will provide safer back up.

this product was definitely worth the price first of all! and secondly the shipping option was very useful especially with me being deployed overseas. wal-mart shipped it directly to me and everything, with no problems! I use two OS (Linux, windows) and i have no problems switching it from either of them. with as much memory as this thing can hold i am down to 170gb left and it still has no problems. the only downfall is that it is big and you have to plug it in.

I was told by a friend to get the Western Digital 500GB external drive for my music. He said it would cost $90, as he had purchased his from WalMart. When I found the external drives, the 500GB Drive was $95, and the 1 terabyte drive was not too much more, so I went with it. I found the drive easy to set up and use. It automatically backs up my PCs hard drive, and I dont even have to think about it. I would recommend this item to anyone who does a lot of photos or music.

I also own a WD 320 Gig that has always worked fine. I could not get this 1 TB to work as it should. After two days with the technical support team that was no help, in fact they cut me off two times while I was on hold I decided to return the drive and I ordered a Seagate.
