We have had this unit for 9 months. It does a good job of steaming --veggies & fish. When it comes to rice--not so good. Unit has a "warming" feature, but unfortunately too warm and that feature doesn't kick in until rice is overcooked. I even tried adjusting the water levels (up and down). A bit better if you want soft rice. As a result, rice WILL BE OVERCOOKED at the bottom, even if you unplug unit as soon as it flips to warm cycle. This results in a good portion being wasted, even using for fried rice--who wants to bite into hard crunchy rice. If you were into making clear rice paper maybe the remains of the bottom would be of some benefit--Probably NOT. Purchase a unit with a variable timer, you'll be much happier, Or a dedicated rice cooker. Also minor point it the vent in the lid--rice tends to foam (even when well rinsed) and this foam will make the lid a cleanup area. Black and Decker made a two bowl steamer with manual timer that was perfect for veggies, fish & RICE (& the lid stayed clean). If I can only find one of those.

This was my first rice cooker. I read the reviews and decided to ignore the 1 or 2 that complained about the water bubbling over; because most people did not have a problem with it. OMG! what a mistake! we tried it 3 times and each time had an overflow of starchy water all over the place. we measured the rice and the water very carefully each time. and still - starchy overflow. Returned to store. Horrible item. Then bought two more, different manufacturers, same basic concept/design. SAME PROBLEM!! returned them. Then finaly gave up and bought a more expensive model with a diffrent design for the steam vent. and now no more problems!! well worth the extra moeny.

Good product when you are on the go. 500 watts of power so it doesn't overload small inverters for camping, my use for it, but will cook at twice the speed of a crock pot that is set on high. Roiling boils a half gallon of water in less than 1/2 hour, a quart of water for coffee or soup would be much faster. Easy cleanup. More like tool quality than other cheap rice cooker/steamer. If you just want to use it like a crock pot, the warm setting should work. All around good product.

We are looking for a rice cooker that lasts long with daily usage. This "Black and Decker" suited our purpose and I see this cooker lasts for a very very long time.
I definitely recommend this. Good that Walmart was running "Rollback" on this product when we bought this cooker :)

I love my rice cooker. I just put in my rice and my water, set it to cook and leave. It will shut off automatically and keep your rice warm. My rice has been perfect every time. I do not have to keep an eye on it and worry with my pot boiling over. I also have tried steamed asparagus and turned out great. The instructions are a little confusing to understand on measurement of rice to water thus why I gave it 4 stars.

I love this cooker. We use it several times a week. It took me about 10 minutes to understand the measurements of water with rice...but after that...smooth sailing. I wish I had purchased a rice cooker before this point. They are easy to use. All types of rice can be cooked, and there is an automatic shut-off switch. No more messy counters from rice water boiling over on the stove. The only negative...is that the inside water line is hard to read. It matches the actual metal of the pan. I have to use a small flashlight to see the line. Another plus...is that this cooker comes with an insert which allows for steaming veggies. Great buy. You won't be disappointed.
