This is my 4th MP3 player. I spent weeks researching them all for my next player.
I bought the Zen to increase my movie viewing size and because I could increase the memory by adding cheap SD cards.
The radio is nice (when I am tired of music). The voice recorder is awesome I can record my grocery list or things I think of while on the road. Great for short notes.
Audio (mp3s) need to be 128kps or less or you will need a converter to resize your large music files to the range of 96-128kps. Anything larger than 128 will cause the music to pop, break up and sound bad.
I bought a pair of Sony headphones from Wal-Mart for 9.99 and they make a huge difference. I am a sound tech and I can tell the Sony's gives you lower tones and higher ranges. Cheap upgrade.
Video. I bought this mainly for video. I love that I can take shows I recorded from TV and watch them on the Zen. Although they do not advertise that you can turn video into avi you can. It comes with a conversion program that works really well but I prefer my own program.
Note programs up to 43 minutes long will work well on the Zen programs over 43 minutes the lips start to lose sink a little. So if you recorded a movie break it up into 40 minute segments. This is normal on video MP3 players for large files. Not enough room to explain why.
Pictures and slide shows are great you can even Zoom into your pictures!
When watching videos you can zip slow or REALLY fast to get to another part of the show. If you have to quit suddenly it remembers where you were in the show even after you turn the power off.
You can listen to music while sorting your pictures.
I found the car charger and wall charger for the Zen at Amazon.com for 7.00 for both including shipping.
The Zen has a large screen but is very thin and lightweight. Find the screen protectors at Wal-Mart and buy them. ($5.00) No scratches this way. Buy a cover of some type to protect it from damage.
Go to Creative.com and download latest drivers (AFTER you have installed disk software) it will update your Zen the latest features.
Spend 10.00 and buy the 2 year warranty. Peace of mind.
It also has a calendar and To Do List features which I will start using when I get the time. I don't carry a PDA so this is nice. Better than paper and pen.
It took 10-15 minutes of playing around with the buttons to figure out how everything works. I could have read the PDF but it's more fun to push and see what happens.
The Zen is so much more than just an MP3 and video player and it is a deal at Walmart. I could have bought an ipod but I don't like my mp3 player to tell me I have to use apple downloads. I have a ton of my own music and movies I want to use. I also listen to library books on my Zen.
Most mp3 players are doing away with the radio and voice recorder function. So I really like the Zen for that. I live in Colorado and sometimes checking the local news for weather info is nice.
I like the Zen because.
Radio / Voice recorder
Mp3 and Video player that plays any music or video I already have.
SOOOOO Much cheaper than Ipod
Expandable memory that's easy to find and cheap to buy.
Large video screen for watching shows while I a waiting for (fill in the blank)
My teenager liked mine so much she ordered one too!
Hope this helps someone out there.
