Great Bookcase but...,

I read a ton of reviews on this bookcase prior to purchasing it. In response to the concerns I read about and was expecting: I found that a) assembly is a snap, b) the box it comes in is 6 ft long and unless you have a hatchback with fold-down seats (we do), it won't fit in a car (barely fit in ours but we did it) c) the varnish smell on ours is not noticeable d) our cabinet doors had no issues other than a bent clasp that was no problem to bend back to the straight position. Those things said, I also LOVE the color (mahogany) - it's a deep dark chocolate color and matches pretty well with an existing walnut desk. It does have a very glossy finish as well. I love the cut-outs at the back of each shelf, and I love the cabinet doors to hide random junk.
Now to the BUT....
The bookcase sides are attached to the back by hinges that essentially fold out to 90 degrees to put the thing together. The top hinge on the right side of ours is almost completely torn out of the wood on the side panel. We noticed it after it was assembled and we don't think it will materially affect the soundness of the bookcase with the top piece on and full of books. However, we've already decided that if/when we decide to move the bookcase, we will probably have to attach an "L" bracket to secure that rear right corner a little better. There is also a flaw in the wood on one of our shelves (on the front piece of trim so it can't be hidden) that is too deep for the touch-up marker.
With all that said, I think the bookcase has a FABULOUS design (and I looked everywhere for the features this one has - cabinet doors and legs are hard to find in bookcases), and I am very happy with it. However, it wasn't exactly a cheap piece of furniture and I'm disappointed that the hinge/wood connection is damaged. If taking it back to the store wasn't such a massive hassle (and ordering a new one through Site-to-Store) we would have done that.

I bought this bookshelf at the store for $199. It looks like I got a GREAT deal vs the Site-to-Store option. To correct a few other reviews, this unit is not solid wood. The shelves are heavy particle board. Some aspects are solid wood, but not all. I chipped the bottom shelf of the cabinet during assembly, and it is most definitely not solid wood.
After doing extensive online and instore research for an audio/media tower, this bookshelf met my needs perfectly! There are grooves in the back of all the shelves to accommodate cords, and there is a hole in the back panel behind the cabinet portion for plugging everything into the wall/tv. It looks more expensive than it really is, and I am sure it will last a long time because of its intended purpose. I was also glad that it did not take long to assemble, although the bottom shelf was a little off, so it took some maneuvering to get it into place. The touch-up marker provided in the assembly kit took care of the scuffs and chip. Plus, the mess I made of it is inside the cabinet, so nobody will ever see it anyway.

I bought the Canopy bookcase, desk, 5 drawer chest, and dining chairs. Would have gotten more but it was going in a small room. I had it shipped to the store and saved over $300 is shipping. Very heavy boxes, filled up the back of a full-sized pick up truck. Furniture is heavy and sturdy when assembled. I tried putting it together by myself but you definetly need help. Be careful putting in the bottom shelf in the cabinet part of the bookcase, I chipped the corner off, but you can't see it. I am very pleased with my purchases. Make sure you buy the correct baskets. I added two pictures, one with the camera flash and one without. The wood color is on the darker side.

Bought this as a set (desk, bookcase & file drawers).
All 3 pieces came well-packaged and super easy to assemble (did all 3 by myself in just an hour). Best of all, they look great I can't believe it came from a discount store!! I'm planning to buy the Canopy storage bench and the console table next!

We've been using Site-To-Store. We purchased the Canopy entertainment center a few months ago and are working on matching Canopy furniture. We are pleased with the entertainment center. The bookshelf has been a different story. One shelf had a very obvious crack right in plain sight. Both doors had smaller cracks and the stain was very poor quality. Wife called Canopy and they were happy to send replacements. The shelf was okay. The doors were cracked and clearly patched up with some kind of wood cement. We kept the original doors. Not impressed with this purchase, but more trouble to return than to keep and we like the entertainment center.

This is a large, handsome bookcase - also very heavy. My husband found it easy to assemble, except for 1 door which was drilled in the wrong place. Moving the holes took him a very long time (over an hour), which took away from his initial enthusiasm. It is "real" furniture which will last a long time, and is very attractive.

Easy to Assemble, But Watch Doors,

This product was easy to asseble. After unpacking the box, it only took 5 minutes to assemble. The wood and finish are excellent and resist scratches. The feature that has caused the most problems is the set of doors on the bottom of the shelving unit. When a handful of hardcover books are placed on the first (lowest) shelf, the subtle weight pushed the shelf downward. This causes rubbing between the two lower doors and the first shelf. The work around is to simply not place books on the first shelf or place felt padding under the first shelf's brackets to raise it up 1/8 inch, enough to avoid having the doors rub the shelf.

The good news is I got what I wanted: solid wood.
The biggest bad news is the door hinge on the right side is installed incorrectly. So do I contact the company (no way)? Do I fix it myself (oh brother, where to find the time and motivation)?
I guess you could play the game and get a perfect bookshelf, but for the price -- I guess it is better than most people would expect.
Very easy to put together. Very easy to adjust the shelfs. The Finish is great. It is very sturdy.

I ordered 2 bookshelves to go w/the tv stand as its pictured. The color is great, my husband said they were easy to put together. We put one bookshelf together in minutes, but when we opened the 2nd box a big piece was broken off. So...I had to load the heavy box back up & return it (store made return quick & easy). Now I'm waiting on another one to complete my entertainment center.

I ordered this book shelf after my wife and I bought the desk from the collection at our local store. We had looked at all the other local furniture stores and everything was too expensive or too cheaply built. This shelf and the desk are a good value and there is real wood here. It's super easy to put together with virtually no tools and I don't believe it will fall apart if I move which I can't say for what I always remembered Wal Mart to carry.

We just bought and put this together yesterday, so I can't speak to how well the product holds up yet. However, it was easy to put together and looks nice. I like that there is a hole in the back and the upper shelves have a notch in the back of them if you wanted to put something with a cord on one of the shelves. There are a few scratches on it, but not hugely noticable. The bottom cabinets don't close smoothly and as evenly as I would like either. All said and done though, it's not a bad looking piece.

I have to say that when I received my Canopy Bookcase, I was pleasantly surprised on how easy it was to put together. They really made it easy for us. I am also satisfied w/ the quality of the desk.
