Summit Summit Mountain Media Stand

Home Theater Makeover

1.) Summary: I was in the process of a Home Theater Makeover with new equipment and speakers on the way. I needed more room for the additional equipment and media. I was was pleasantly surprised to find these cabinets both attractive and affordable at Wal-Mart.
2.) Concerns: Reading reviews I expected my two cabinets to arrive damaged. The boxes are large and heavy, almost 70 lbs each. Mine arrived at the local Wal-Mart and to my surprise there was minimal damage. One part had a small piece of wood veneer that slivered off. A little yellow wood glue fixed that just fine.
3.) Assembly: The assembly of these cabinets is very basic and straight forward. Before you begin make sure you have a decent size bottle of of yellow wood glue available at any hardware store. Since these cabinets have a real wood veneer wood glue can be used at all of the joints prior to assembly to ensure they stay together for a good long time. Have a damp cloth handy to remove any excess glue that will ooze out once the panels are fastened together. The only panel I didn't glue was the back since it screws on and allows for later remove and reconfiguration of the rack at a later time. I did have to modify the back by cutting a larger opening to accomodate a deep home theater receiver. A few measurements and a jig saw made this a simple fix to get my equipment sitting back in the rack evenly. It also made wiring the unit easier. Take your time.

My only complaint about this product was that there is a small bump in the veneer in the top of the cabinet. Since I didn't want to return it, I will just put a plant in front of it.

A really beautiful piece if you could get here in one piece. I have ordered it twice and both times it arrived broken up. I really wanted this piece too, but I'm not going to go through the hassel again. I don't know if the damage is happening at the warehouse or the store (shipped to) but it is really too bad. It really is nice sturdy looking piece until it is dropped off a building or something....

I purchased two of the media stands/bookcases along with the tv stand as a combo set. They arrived at my local walmart at the same time. The boxes looked like they had been through a war but the pieces were remarkably in good shape. There was a small area that was messed up on the edge but it is in the back so that was good. They are very solid and the back is actually a thin piece of wood put on with screws and NOT nails!!!! The pieces look beautiful together in my living!

All pieces and parts were there, but the assembly instruction manual needs to be rewritten. IF you buy one YOU MUST read the entire assembly book before you begin because page one and page two "disagree" and page three continues to confuse ... etc. Some of the mechanical drawings would not pass 9th grade drafting because they are incomplete and they are WRONG! Use your horse sense and proceed slowly on its assembly, verifying what you physically see and do not rely on the assembly instructions to be accurate. I think it is under rated regarding its' weight restriction on the top shelf. Be sure to install the back panel because it 'squares' the unit and provides additional strength. Beware, the veneer they use is wormwood, so it has 'flaws' that can be easily seen up close. One 'foot' would not fit because they mis-drilled the holes, so I had to redo it in my shop: I am tooled to do this so it was no biggie for me, but the average buyer would probably have to send it back! Nevertheless, 4-star!

It's a good looking stand as long as you don't look too closely. There were places where the stain was sloppy, scratches and one of the legs wasn't even. Overall, it's a solid piece and easy to assemble.

I love the product, but the box was damaged during shipping, either at your store or from the manufactory. Lucky for Walmart I couldn't be bothered with returning so I wood Glued the broken wooden front rail myself. The box was heavy. I think that someone during shipping probably dropped, as I noticed that I had to be very careful during handeling myself. I picked up this item at your store. I had bought online and had it shipped to Danvers Store. I understand that your not UPS, but somewhere along the line it was damaged.

The box should have given me a clue as to what I would find inside. It looked like it was at the bottom of a temporary sled used to move a lot of these from the ship to the shore. The barely adequate Styrofoam packing took a beating and produced tiny little beads that added an extra 45 minutes to the assembly just to vacuum up. I still find one now and then clinging to something with static charge.
There were 2 or 3 places where the wooden parts had one inch square or a little larger pieces knocked out of them on the edge; one plywood ply deep. Also, one leg bolt head was bent so badly I could not drive it in. Luckily, I had an almost identical bolt left from a better quality cabinet that fit the threads, size and length. The hardware count was exactly correct for the needs, but not a spare to be found to help for the damaged one that slipped by the packers.
Also, as luck would have it, those fairly large "nicks" in the bottom and back boards are not TOO obvious after assembly. Therefore, sending the unit back for replacement would be too much of a hassle. The assembly was straight forward, as I have done this sort of thing before. The color matches my decor fairly well and I like the appearance of the stand. Best I could come up with without traipsing all over Virginia.
It would be nice if I could procure additional ready made shelves and supports as I have more than four items to put into the cabinet. Plus, I already have a cabinet under the TV for additional non-electronic storage.

I purchased this media stand for my Mom and I will come back and buy another media stand for her books, pictures, and what-nots. This cabinet was a bit of a disappointment because several pieces of the unit were cracked and the wood split very easily when putting it together. We kept it rather than taking it back just because it was so heavy and too much hassle to pack up and return.

the product is very heavy in package, but very weak in peices. all the parts are not included, I was missing one peice that holds it together. the box is hard to open and packaging is very messy. it took 3 times for me to get one that was not damaged and the 3rd one was slightly damaged on the corner. I wanted another one, but will not put myself through the hassle, I should of learned from the tv stand, thats what I get for trying to match my furniture.

One of the media stands (I ordered 2 in the bundle) came with two side "B's" in the box instead of a side A and B. Walmart customer service made it extremely painless by shipping out an entire new unit and having UPS pick up the other. Very impressive customer service.
Now for the unit - Be patient putting it together; it can be a little tedious, but it's fairly simple to assemble. The color is darker than the picture illustrates, and the media stands are a little shorter than I expected, but the three pieces look great in the living room, and it's a very sturdy unit. For the money, it's great, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

We just moved into a new house and bought this media stand (two of them), the matching tv stand and the matching coffee table and we love them all. Great price, they look beautiful and were easy to put together. I am a 27 year old woman and was able to put together all four of these pieces with ease although it did take under 45 min. a piece. I will also say that I used a drill for some of it and I had a better allen wrench than they provide you with in your set. This saved me some time. All around great furniture at a great price!

We bought the package that had 2 of these stands and the tv stand in the middle. It's my own fault for not measuring the height so I shouldn't have been surprised when we put it together, but they look kind of small/short beside the tv stand it matches. Because of this the shelves are a bit small. Other than that though it looks great and we're happy with the quality. I would recommend it with a smaller tv in a smaller room then ours (we have a 50inch tv and it's a 500 sq ft room with taller ceilings).
