A great port of a great game., 01/30/2008

"Afternoon of Darkness" is a great port of the original "Disgaea: Hour of Darkness". The Tactical Strategy/RPG genre lends itself extremely well to portable gaming due to the turn-based nature of the gameplay and Disgaea is certainly one of the very best in that class of games.
A fascinating plot, likable characters, brilliant anime-parodying humor, and near infinite replay value made this game an instant underground classic the first time around. In the PSP version, NIS games added additional missions, updated voice acting, and more castle npcs to addict you all over again.
As an added bonus, I've not noticed the game experience any slow-down during animations, like other console ports to the PSP.
Whether they're a fan of quirky Japanese animation or a hardcore gamer, this game should appeal to nearly everyone.

Quickly climbing to the top 5 of my favorite RPG's-list (keep in mind, I've been RPG'ing it up since the infancy of the PSX)...this unique, wildly original Strategy RPG has kept my interest/focus for well over 3 weeks, and I don't see an end in sight.

The gameplay handles just like any other Strategy RPG, you have a limited number of moves, starting off...you also have a limited number of abilities (whether it be attack/special abilities/techs) at your disposal. The graphics are quite honestly, simple. But in simplicity, there is great complexity...for if you look past the somewhat sub-par graphics, and see the game for what it really is (an incredibly deep experience, no matter the playing style of the player)...you'll experience a level of depth only outdone by the PSP's second Strategy RPG (Square-Enix's Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions). And that's a name, I'm sure Nippon Ichi doesn't mind being compared to at all.

All in all, if you can look past the mediocre graphics, the somewhat lighthearted story, and predictable events, the carefree characters, then you'll find a game of such simple complexity, so rich in depth, razor sharp in it's wit...that shouldn't be missed by any RPG fans whatsoever. But be warned, like any good RPG, or game in general for that matter ^_^...once you get going, once you get the hang of things...the game doesn't let go of you until it's good and ready (I already have a file with a good 200+ hours of gameplay). That being said, I hope anyone who is even minutely interested in this game...goes out and purchases it, you won't be let down. 9.5/10

Well thought out and executed storyline. Very humorous. Game play is very entertaining and comparble if you are looking for a real time strategy role playing game.
