I purchased this refrigerator hoping that it would be the perfect refrigerator for my small bedroom. I was disappointed. The refrigerator was 8 feet away from me. It was loud. The compressor ran for 5 minutes every 25 minutes with the refrigerator set to the least coolest setting (so it didn't even have to work too hard). The noise did manage to wake me up in the middle of the night. After 3 days of hoping it would get better, it didn't. I returned it.
Pros: * No Freezer * Keeps stuff cold
Cons: * Loud * Compressor runs for 5 minutes every 25 minutes

Good value, so far

Bot this a few weeks ago when my large fridge expired. I wanted something smaller and did not want a freezer section so I located this unit online and read the reviews. This unit appeared to be a good value with most of the negative reviews citing personal preferences rather than fact. I bot it, brought it to its location. Walmart did load the trailer with this item upside down so I can only imagine how it was stored. No matter. The young man that loaded it was very nice and careful. It was very well packed with no damage. I set it up in its perminent location and just let it sit for a few days before plugging it in and turning it on. Works fine. The temperature is easily located and turns with a coin so no accidental bumps while reaching in to grab a soda. I can see how this would be a great unit for a dorm room. So far, works great. I think it is a good value and am glad I bot this unit.

Review 3 for Danby 4.4 cu. ft. Energy Star Compact Refrigerator, Black
I had been looking at a 5.1 CU FT compact refrigerator that cost $500.00 plus shipping cost. Then I noticed that Danby had this fridge for way less than half the price. This is a really nice solid little fridge. It's not silent but it's not loud by a long shot. The shelves on the door are adjustable. We don't drink soda or other canned drinks but the drink holder also works well to hold apples or oranges. I only gave this fridge 4 stars for durability because I haven't had it long to enough to truly rate it. We're very happy with it.

Review 4 for Danby 4.4 cu. ft. Energy Star Compact Refrigerator, Black
Don't know about durability as we've only had it a few weeks. This seemed to be just what I was looking for with regard to size and the fact it didn't have a freezer which in this size fridge just takes up space and is pretty useless. It arrived very quickly and in good good condition. Did some research before purchasing and this brand was highly rated. Price was the best from this vendor and we paid $10 extra to have it delivered to our home but could have picked it up at the store and saved the fee.

Looks great, works great. The beer likes it. What more is there? I put a sign on the door, "For longnecks only" Get one, you'll be happy. Haven't had it long enough to speak about the "Durability", but I'm optimistic.

Review 8 for Danby 4.4 cu. ft. Energy Star Compact Refrigerator, Black
First, the delivery was expeditious. The packaging for my purchase was done quite well as it was double packed, i.e. the refrigerator was in its original box and was shipped in a packing box with amole styrofoam around the bottom and all sides. But, as others had stated, the metal bottom hinge for the door was bent thus the door would fall off when opening. While this was an easy fix, by straightening the hinge, why should you need to?
Second, the temperature control is one you must monitor to ensure you have it adjusted to avoid freezing of items. Have a thermometer handy to verify.
Third, I purchased the black one to avoid finger prints and this is a great feature.
Fourth, since I have had this a short time I rated the durability as average based on the life expectancy of any small frig. The value was rated average as I did not think I should have to install the door and, if one does, the hinges should not be bent. At least note that in the instructions to check hinges before installation of door.
Overall, the refrigerator works well and serves my purposes just be aware that you must install the door and, check the hinges before doing this task. Thus you will not have to take the door off, straighten the hinge and then re-install the door. As for the comments about noise, while I have mine next to my kitchen table and off the family room the noise, in my opinion, is minor.

It shipped fast and arrived in great condition. We are using for a "condiment" fridge. With so many guests so often we needed a place - not in the main fridge - for them. Having such a nice size fridge is handy and not having room taken up with unneeded freezer space is amazing. Wal-mart had the best price by far on the same model I looked everywhere for.

Failed in little over a year,

Bought on 4/14/11, failed in July 2012. Fortunately, I took the 2 year service plan and finally got around to calling to arrange for a repair. Did not realize that I have to bring the item in to a service center. Until it failed to get cold enough to keep anything other than yogurt and beer, it worked well. The unit is all refrigerator and no freezer section. I have a freezer that is 25+ years old. First refrigerator freezer lasted 30 years so for this compact refrigerator, that we use to store summer BBQ items to fail with such light use, it is very disappointing. Of course, maybe it is just a lemon. I will follow up after the repairs are completed and let everyone know how that worked out

Review 14 for Danby 4.4 cu. ft. Energy Star Compact Refrigerator, Black
I needed a compact fridge mostly for bottled water, soda pop and beer. This fridge met my expectations. It doesn't have a freezer taking up useless space. It has a light. It has an automatic defroster for those times when some frost builds up on the back wall. It is also very quiet, I can barely hear it humming. On the negative side I didn't like the fact that the shelves are wire. Bottles have a tendency to tip over. I fixed that myself by buying plastic shelving and cutting them to fit. The problem is now gone. Also, I did need to reverse the door for my application. That was a piece of cake. I didn't rate Durability in the ratings column because I've only had the fridge for a week. Time will tell the story on that. Overall. It's a very nice fridge and I would definitely recommend it.

Review 15 for Danby 4.4 cu. ft. Energy Star Compact Refrigerator, Black
This refrigerator is for under-the-counter, in the bar area of our finished basement. It's very quiet and cools quickly. The only thing I don't like is the temperature control dial. It has a slot instead of a knob, and the slot is difficult to turn with simply a fingernail. I also purchased the 3-year warranty for the fridge. I usually don't buy warranties, but I wasn't impressed with online reviews of compact refrigerators-- they seem to break down quickly. Only time will tell if this was a truly good buy...

No longer good for conversions

Purchased a second one of these for another conversion. Still a great mini fridge and would recommend it for that purpose!!
However, the door has changed and no longer uses screws to secure the gasket. Now the gasket is press fit into the door panel structure which is bonded to the door frame. Its not going to look as clean when finished.
Your mileage may vary if you get the older style.

Review 19 for Danby 4.4 cu. ft. Energy Star Compact Refrigerator, Black
This mini fridge was purchased as a secondary beverage cooler and resides in the garage though it is spiffy enough to dwell in the house. It is a major improvement over the one it replaces which decided to go on a permanent vacation when we returned from ours. Great changes include an interior light, self defrosting, and no freezer unit ....all of which I welcome. Particularly the latter as a Florida garage gets really hot during summer months and would spend hours with the hair dryer trying to rid the old one of ice around the freezer section. I also appreciate the black exterior which doesn't show marks like the old white one. Now, if it is durable and lasts for some years, I'll be thrilled.
