I went to the store and purchased this DVD in blueray and then found out a couple days later that it was half the price online. So I returned the store bought one and got one from walmart.com. My kids as well as my husband LOVE this DVD...great quality family time!

I bought this when I finally picked up a blu-ray player. I currently have a Samsung 40" LN40B550 1080P HDTV and a Samsung BD-P1590 blu-ray player. A few of my friends recommended that Planet Earth be my first blu-ray purchase and I am glad I listened to them. The images are amazing and the picture is crisp and shockingly colorful. If you have a blu-ray player, you should have this series.

I read a lot of positve reviews about this so my expectations were pretty high. I got the BBC version that some say is 1080 P; it's not. It is 1080i, same as the Discovery version. Not bad, but not great. I'd say the same for the sound. I paid $39.00, which is a pretty good value for what you get. I don't think I would pay full price at $80.00.

not all blu ray discs out were shot in 1080 full HD. all old movies are just upconvert 1080i. alot of new tv shows are still 720p HD but planet earth...you will make full use of the blu ray player. incredible show, the quality and the resolution is unmatchable. got it for 40 bucks blackfriday while everywhere else it's atleast double that. if you find it for 40 bucks, it's well worth it.

To sum up this box set I'll quote my brother-in-law who works in home theater and mobile installation: "We always keep Planet Earth on file to showcase the benefits of bluray and the clear difference in picture and sound." I think this is a fantastic series. I never saw it when it was on television and originally Netflix-ed the first disc. Decided immediately no need to waste a Netflix rental on this set because it was so amazing I was going to purchase it for sure. I originally purchased this set from Best Buy for $44 or so. But, then I returned it when I found Wal-Mart had AGAIN the best price. Amazing series of photography and great narration. You won't believe your eyes, and a great value for almost 9 hours of breathtaking entertainment.
