Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue!

My daugther received this cartridge from "Santa" this Xmas. We have had the Clickstart system since last Xmas and this is our first cartridge for the system. (I think both Mommy & daughter-- Mommy mostly-- were getting a bit bored of the system with the included games... but she does still love the included games)
I am disappointed that there are only 3 games on this cartridge, but I knew that when it was purchased. It seems as if all Clickstart cartridges have about 3 games. That being said, it was a BIG hit with my daughter this year! I was looking to work on her "math" skills since most toys only work on "reading" skills, so that was one major reason I purchased this one over another (the other being that Buzz is always a hit in our house thanks to two older boy cousins' influence). I had many reservations, b/c video games (educational or noneducational) do not always hold my daughter's interest that long. She is usually more interested in just getting a chuckle out of moving the person than actually trying to "solve" the game... however, this has additional things to do in the game, so as I sat with her I was able to say "you're not following the directions" and re-direct her to actually play how you should play (ie. "find the red rectangle"), unlike other video games (V-smile, some of the Leapster cartridges).
All 3 games require you to get as many "aliens" as you can... they don't run away or anything, so it's not THAT hard... perfect for my just-turned-4 yr old. But the nice part is, there is something ELSE for them to do too... in one game, she had to find the specific shapes (with the correct color), then find the numeral, then find the correct group of dots, and then the half of a pizza or a whole of a pizza. That was for the first level. The nice part was, for EACH individual game, you can choose right away level 1 or 2. (The games included in the system is all or nothing as far as Level 1 or 2... which gets my daughter a bit frustrated... but not terribly so) The second level involves adding, subtracting, and "fitting the correct piece into the pizza pie"... we haven't tried level 2 yet, but the nice part is, I know my daughter should be able to change to level 2 on all but the pizza game soon... Judging by the screen shots in the directions, the adding and subtracting is done using dots, not numerals... my daughter can "add" fingers from one hand to the other hand now (or two sets of dots, buttons, etc) so I'm sure doing it on the screen will be not too far off.
The Bonus round with Zurg is a bit challenging for my daughter, but she is starting to get the hang of it. All 3 games are done with arrow keys and specific keys on the keyboard vs/ the mouse... except the Zurg Bonus Round... that uses the mouse and is tougher, but not impossible.
Overall, nice game & math concepts. Looking forward to level 2.
Oh, and a word about inserting the cartridge if this is your first one ever to insert... the directions say to insert it with the label forward... of course... ahhh but which way is the "front" of the console???
Just keep an open mind about which way is "front" on your console... We've had it turned backwards for a whole yr evidently :) DUH Mommy...
(Luckily it's impossible to insert backwards and Mommy just thought the cartridge was a DUD a first...

My 3 year old loves this game. He is a big Buzz Lightyear and Woody fan. It is extremely easy to use and challenging. This product captures his attention and keeps it. It is so easy to hook up and has great ease of use. I would highly recommend this product to any parent to use as a beginning tool for their child's pre-K introduction.

My four y/o son received this for x-mas and spent almost alf the day playing it. The different activities could be more diverse in that if you sat and watched your child play it for half an hour, you would think he never switched screens! Activities are also monotonous! If you are a believer that children learn best through repitition, then you will love this product and feel like your child will gain something from it.

This product states it's for children ages 3-6 but it's a bit difficult for 3 yr. olds as most of the games cannot be played with the mouse only the keyboard.
The product is educational but for ages 4-6.
