This full-featured model is Nikon's smallest digital SLR ever and provides superb image quality, fast handling, compactness and simplicity. The D40x powers up in a mere 0.18 second and reacts instantly to take up to 520 images per battery charge. Nikon's user-friendly menu system features built-in help menus and eight scene-optimized, pre-set modes to easily set up the camera. Exclusive in-camera image editing features let you adjust images without the need for a computer. High ISO 1600 sensitivity enables low-light shooting, while D-Lighting brightens dark pictures. Image Trim allows for creative cropping and easy e-mailing. The D40x is compatible with all of Nikon's AF-S and AF-I Nikkor lenses and supports the optional ultra-compact SB-400 Speedlight flash.

This camera puts the E-Volt410 to shame. So easy to learn how to use. Had the E-Volt410 nothing but problems. I believe for the money Nikon makes the best camera. I have not even reached my full potential with it yet!!!!

I feel at times like the photo quality is that of a pro. With 10.2 megapix, you capture some serious details in your photos. The flash is marvelous & the camera is very user friendly. This camera takes such great pictures. The only thing i dont like about it is that you have to look through the eyehole to take pics and not at the lcd screen like most regular digital cameras. It is very easy to use.

A very capable and user friendly SLR. Take the time to read the manual to learn all the capabilities, or just go "auto" if you want. I suggest additional flash if you are using indoors over 15'. Battery life over 500 shots. You'll never go back to point and shoot mini cameras again.
