The First Alert 2013F Fire and Water Chest will store all your important documents, such as like the birth certificate, license and computer back-up devices, securely. The First Alert security box will protect your valuables from water, fire or natural disaster. This 17 cu. ft. fire chest is a UL classified media protection device that can withstand an external temperature up to 1550 degrees Fahrenheit for hour. Thats important because a residential fire rarely lasts more than 30 minutes. It will also protect electronic media, including the memory sticks, CDs, DVDs and external hard drives. Since this is a waterproof fire safe, it will just float during the flood and nothing will happen to your things inside the security box. It features a handle for carrying convenience and is secured by a clamping style latch with key lock. All First Alert products are covered by a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
I bought this because the description says it can fit letter size papers inside. I needed it for a life insurance policy that can't be folded. It does not fit inside. I have to return it. Other than that it seemed fine.

not big but seems well built. no problems with it yet but i rarely have opened it. i like that its water and fire proof because usually a fire ends with water all over everything so the ones that are not fire proof seemed like a silly thing to buy then unless what u put in it can get wet and be ok.good price.

Review 5 for First Alert .17 Cu. Ft. Waterproof Fire Protector
Much heavier and more substantial than I expected. Could fit a good deal of misc. items in the safe. Just wish it were just a little larger to hold a couple of file folders without having to take things out of the folders.

Review 7 for First Alert .17 Cu. Ft. Waterproof Fire Protector
I bought this First Alert safe and I am very happy with it. The price was excellent and the design is secure. I really like the way the lock is a push button to open, and click back into secure lock. The inside is very roomy for lots of important papers. I'm so happy I saw this and bought it. You will like this if you buy it too. It's far better than any design I've seen. It's fireproof and waterproof. You can't go wrong!!!

Review 10 for First Alert .17 Cu. Ft. Waterproof Fire Protector
I got what I paid for. For small papers, passports and CD's. Just large enough for unreplaceable's, very important stuff. If you need more room, buy a safe.

Decent safe if you don't mind mold!

I started out very pleased with this safe, even though when I first opened it the instruction manual was kind of moldy. I figured it was just a fluke and no big deal. Until week after week, month after month, everything I put in the safe, especially money started to show the signs and smells of mold! After speaking with First Alert representatives on two separate occasions I learned that this was common and the only way to prevent mold was to never open the safe! I was also told that despite not being in the instruction manual the "hidden" safe is required to be taken out and aired out for 20 minutes every two weeks to do something?, but not stop the mold. The price was good, but having everything moldy without the waterproof safe ever getting wet is just not worth the price. Part of the reason I bought the safe was for the waterproof part, (I live in a flood prone house) but now I'm terrified at how moldy things will get if the safe actually gets wet.

This is small, admittedly, but extremely solid, closes with perfect seal to protect against fire, water and pests. It has a carrying handle and isn't too heavy to carry. It can be secured with a cable if you have the need.

This safe is ok but a bit heavy for myself. Can not understand why I need to put my papers and such inside an airtight dishwasher safe container before putting them into my safe. It is supposed to be waterproof and fireproof so why do I need to do that? Wish I had not bought it but I have it now so will keep it. You also have to open it up and let it air out for 20 minutes every two weeks.
