This gate is exactly what it says. I read ALL the reviews first and still bought it. After installing and using it, I've realized that some people are either not thorough in reading instructions or not very common sensible.
You DO need to make sure it's installed just right, but when you do, it will work great.
Yes, it looks crazy crooked out of the box, but it is explained on a yellow tag attached to the gate! That's what it looks like before you install it!
The set up was SUPER SIMPLE and easy, just need to make sure both side are turned evenly. You will need to adjust it carefully to make sure the slide release latches (or it WILL open just by pushing on it) and it's not too tight and rubbing. (The instructions say to make sure there's a 4 mm gap.)
The instructions also CLEARLY say you have to lift the gate to open it...so that shouldn't be an issue either....it opens very easily. :)
There is also the issue of having the threshold at the bottom that you have to step over, but it's not huge, and not a big deal at all. :)

The only big downfall (that I KNEW about before buying anyway) is that my doorknob does hit the gate, making it unable to close the door. We fixed this issue with a bungie cord. :)
This gate is one of the only ones that was skinny enough to fit in my 28 1/2 inch doorway, so I didn't have much choice, but I'm super happy with it. NONE of my kids (or myself) can climb over it, and it does lock back by itself (unless you close it very slowly.)
Overall, I think this is the best gate we've had so far (with four kids, I've been through a few!)

We brought two of these gates for our two year old, and we are very satisfied with the decision to buy these gates. The gates are very sturdy and easy to put up, and we haven't had any problems with either gate. I really love these gates!!!

Easy to put together because it came with a CD DVD to watch. Clear instructions. It has a very good look. I use it to keep our cats and dogs out of the exercise room which has no door.

I bought two of these gates because I am house training a new dog. They look fantastic. They are very good quality, easy to install, and work beautifully. I am very pleased with these gates and would recommend them to anyone that needs a gate to keep young children or animals safe.

Great gate to contain our 4 month old Newfoundland puppy. It is attractive to look at, easy to install, and works great at keeping the dog contained while allowing us to easily walk in and out of the kitchen all day long. It is plenty wide enough to carry things through and, most importantly, the rails are vertical so the dog and children can not climb it to get out.

I bought this gate to keep my toddlers out of the kitchen. My 3 yr old learned how to open the last 1 we had, so I needed to get a taller gate. I thought the directions were not very helpful it took me 1 1/2 to finally finish it, it works great so far......I was diffently worth it! Make sure you measure everything & mark it.

This is a very sturdy gate and is easy to open and close. I am using it to separate my 14 month old daughter from our 3 dogs and the doggy door. She cannot reach the top of the gate (but is trying) so I think it will last a while. My only complaint is that the gate does swing closed but not shut fully. I may have misunderstood the description but just swinging back in place does not really help me much since my dogs can easily push it open and daughter can just open as well. Installation was easy enough and I was able to do it myself without asking hubby for help.

I bought this gate to use on my dog. We had a shorter gate but she kept jumping over it. This gate is tall enough to keep a very hyper dog locked out of the rest of the house. It is easy to open and doesn't look cheap, and I am kinda picky. Only took about 10 minutes to put into place.

I read so many reviews on gates that I'd forgotten some of the things that I should have paid more attention to. Like this one is self closing and taller than the normal gates, while this is what we wanted it presented it's own issues. We got this gate to keep our dogs out of the living area without having to close off doors, we have one that is a jumper, so we needed the extra height. We'd planned to put it just outside the door leading to a service porch, that didn't work (we found out after installation) due to the door knob hitting the gate and not allowing the door to close. We moved it back to the entrance into the hallway, which worked out fine. The extensions that come with the gate are great and can fit just about any opening. We keep the gate open w/ a bungee cord when we want to allow the dogs unlimited access.
It is easy enough to open with one hand when closed, although I do see how some people might have issues b/c you do have to pull the lever and lift up at the same time.
I do recommend the gate, it's very sturdy and my DH was able to install (twice) without problems.
One of the interesting facts was that this gate is also sold as a dog gate and is more expensive than the same gate marketed as a baby gate!

I purchased this gate to stop my dog from access to our family room. We have the ps3,wii,xbox 360 and the dancing games. When there are friends over, the commotion really bothers the dog.Which makes me nervous...problem solved!!! It was easy to install,looks great,,and arrived 4 days early.

I actually bought this gate to keep my two dogs in the kitchen. I keep a very clean house and don't want my dogs to go through the house as they please! This gate works just like it says on the description. I am very pleased with this purchase, and would highly recommend it. It's easy to install; requires no tools and very durable. I like that it is tall because as pet owners know, dogs can jump. Great value.

I bought this gate for my new puppy, and I liked that it is metal, and that the bars run vertical so that he could not climb up and over (larger breed dog). It kept him in the room perfectly, held up to his strength in trying to get out, and was really easy for me to open and walk through!
It went together in seconds, and is very durable. I highly recommend this gate to anyone with a stronger dog or child. It is tall enough that they cannot open the gate themselves, and pops in and out of doorways very quickly.

We have a new dog we want to keep in particular areas. Went searching online for a taller gate. It is PERFECT. Looks great and keeps her where we want her. I am still using wooden baby gates in another location, but I have ordered another one of these. I would highly recommend. FYI the space betw/ the bars is 2.25 inches. Just take your time adjusting the tension and the door will work fine.

The Dreambaby extra tall gate is very good - we have had it installed for almost a month now with two kids under 3. The gate installed very easily - read the instructions! - as long as you make sure it's at right angles to the walls & tightened down correctly, you shouldn't have any issues with the so called "gap" issue.
Pros: Very tall, solid, good construction, automatically closes behind you when going through in either direction.
Cons: Gate latch seems a bit flimsy, does not always require you to manually pull back the latch - if it did not close correctly, you can simply lift the gate up slightly and push to open. Once your child is large enough to lift the gate, they will probably be able to get through it by themselves. Will work well for pets though.
