The South Shore Savannah Door Chest, Pure White would be an ideal choice for your child's bedroom as it comes in a variety of storage combinations to suit every requirement. While decorating your toddler's room, consider the South Shore Pure White baby dresser, as it can create a regal look that your little prince or princess will surely love. Made of composite wood panels, the South Shore Door Chest comes with certification from theForest Stewardship Council (FSC) which makes it an eco friendly option. The chest features two drawers and three open storage compartments featuring two adjustable shelves which you can utilize to keep necessary or decorative items. Behind the swing open door are three adjustable and two fixed shelves where you can keep your child's clothes. The drawers come with wooden knobs to allow easy access. Some assembling of the chest would be required upon delivery of the product.
We received this product and had to assemble it ourselves. We put everything together and nothing lined up correctly. There are spaces between the drawers and the shelves. We got to the final step to put the door on and the bottom corner was cracked. It looks very cheap. It feels cheap. I would not recommend this to a friend!

I purchase both this cabinet and the South Shore Savannah changing table. I got them together for under $300 total at the time. I actually bought them through Amazon for the same price as Walmart but I had gift certificates for Amazon from my employer so that is why I went with them. Definatley pay to have this delivered to your door because these suckers are heavy. Both units arrived on Jan 30th. I put both units together by myself. It was not hard and I LOVE the way this looks in my little girl’s room! Here are my observations:
* This thing is HEAVY in the box. I am a part time single mother (as in - my husband is gone on business for a month at a time) so lifting this up the stairs was out of the question. My UPS man backed up to the garage and put it inside out of the weather for me - but I had to have a neighbor help me take it up the stairs.
* It is well packaged for shipping. The packaging box is sturdy and it had extra 1 inch thick corrugated buffers glued on all corners and edges of the box plus it was plastic wrapped over the top of that. When I opened it - it had a 2 inch thick piece of foam cushioning at the top and bottom ends of the box to protect the wood laminate. The pieces were shrink wrapped together tightly to keep them from shifting and scratching each other. All the hardware was included inside in a separate cardboard box.
* The assembly went very smoothly. I took my time and read through all directions and laid everything out before I started so that I could make sure there was no damage prior to assembly. I put it together all by myself. I honestly don't understand some of the reviews that I have read that say that it is hard to assemble or that it is junky. The directions were very clear and concise. All the wooden (heavy quality pressboard) parts except the drawer bottoms were stamped in ink from the factory so you knew exactly which pieces they are referring to in the directions during assembly. The hardware is not all individually marked - but it was all there and easy enough to figure out what was what from the listed description and pictures. I took all the hardware pieces out before I assembled the unit and made sure which pieces were which. I even put them into individual condiment cups and set the cups out on a cookie tray so they wouldn’t tip and get lost in the carpet. This made it faster and easier during the install to grab exactly what I needed and set it on the floor with the piece in that particular step of the directions. Some people have also noted that the door has a wide gap on the one side. This is only the case if you do not properly adjust the hinges. This unit comes with quality adjustable hinges just like the ones on my kitchen cabinets.
* The only modification I would make to this unit would be to cut a hole in the backing to put a cord through for a clock or radio to sit on the shelves. I may replace the knobs with something a little fancy just to dress it up - but the ones it came with are perfectly fine. Other than those minor things - the unit was perfect for my needs. It is sturdy and heavy and I am glad I bought it. If your children are rough on furniture – this may not be the ideal thing for you. GO to a furniture store and pay for real wood with metal drawer glides. As for my kids - my 6 year old is still using the dresser I bought at a thrift shop for my oldest daughter and it looks as lovely as the day I repainted it 17 years ago so I’m sure this will last for my newest daughter for many years to come.
* The only complaint I have is a small one – the door is not as heavy as the rest of the unit. If it were, this unit would be perfect in my opinion.
In conclusion - I would highly recommend this unit to anyone on a budget like I am. I love both the changing table and this cabinet so much that I am going to purchase the dresser as soon as the budget allows.

Review 5 for South Shore Savannah Door Chest, Pure White
This is one of the best kits I've ever put together. Everything lined up perfectly and there were no missing parts. I would definitely buy South Shore products again. One piece was broken on arrival but I called customer service and they processed my request and already have the replacement piece on its way. It was just the decorative piece at the bottom of the cabinet so I was able to go ahead and put the cabinet together. It is a very nice cabinet for the money and is perfect it in my serwing room.

Review 8 for South Shore Savannah Door Chest, Pure White
I have purchased and assembled many RTA pieces in my life. This one was about average in difficulty for its size, and I put it together by myself (female, 5'5"). The instructions could have been a bit clearer for people who haven't done this before - such as saying that the finished edge should be on this side, etc. But if you've done a few of these, you shouldn't have a problem with this one.
I was very surprised (and a little disappointed) to find that the drawer slides are plastic. This may work to our advantage, since we are at the beach where everything rusts, but I am a little concerned about whether they'll hold up. I was impressed that there was a piece included whose sole job was to keep me from smashing the plastic drawer slides when hammering them in.
Some of the pieces - especially the cabinet door - are a bit lighter (flimsier) than I expected. Also the screws don't go all the way into the knobs (door & 2 drawers), so they feel loose all the time. The little piece on the front of the bottom (it's mainly decorative) is kind of difficult to get on, and comes off easily when lifting the cabinet for moving - but once you have it where you want it, you can put that piece back in and it seems to stay. All of the problems with that little piece could be solved by the use of different (better) hardware - such as the twist lock devices used on the rest of the cabinet.
Other than those few little things, I was happy overall. There was no damage to the piece upon delivery, and all the parts were there. It looks really nice and fits perfectly in the place we planned to put it. I am a little concerned that it won't last long, because it is light, and we are using it in a commerical application, but frankly for as cheap as it was, if we had to buy a new one every other year, it wouldn't be a big deal.

I like this piece but I don't LOVE it. Yeah, it looks pretty. Yeah, it's very helpful in terms of storage. BUT - just like with the South Shore changing table I bought -I have some minor complaints. Again, the bottom piece that goes across under the door and drawer, one side pops of a lot and I frequently have to kick it back on. The door gets a little stuck at the bottom. The drawers don't go in and out smoothly AT ALL. These drawers are worse than those on my changing table.

Review 10 for South Shore Savannah Door Chest, Pure White
I am so totally satisfied with this door chest. It s exactly what I thought I was going to get. The assembly did take a while at first, but didn't take too long once we got started. I don't understand why people are complaining...the door is fine, fits perfect. To me, the part that hooks into THe stud in the wall is a bonus, good for them for thinking of it. If it didn't come with one I would have had to rig my own. I definetly recommend this.

Review 11 for South Shore Savannah Door Chest, Pure White
Very cheap piece of furniture

I have never given a bad review, but you deserve to know what you are buying before you bother. First of all, it came in a box with a lot of pieces and very undetailed directions on how to put it together. It took 3-4 hours to assemble (both my husband and I as a team). There were probably 100 steps total because each step had multiple components within it. Second, it is such a cheap piece of furniture that the pieces don't even fit together snug. The door hinge broke, everything was so fragile. The door doesn't even shut all the way. It came with plenty of dings and scratches too. It's wobbly and very fragile. I don't think it would survive a move. We bought this for my daughter's room, and if she wasn't in love with it (she's 8 and loves everything) then we would be taking it back. I wouldn't be so upset if it only costed 100.00 or less. But, at 175.00 I thought it would be better quality. Very disappointed. I learned my lesson about buying South Shore furniture though.

This is my third child, so I know nothing lasts forever. Wanted something that looks nice and get the job done on a budget! Thought it was a little taller from looking at the image...It will get the job done...however the gap in between the front door once put together is annoying. Took my husband around 2 hours to put together. Still a lovely piece.

After reading all the negative reviews on this product, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to purchase it. My husband and I decided to give it a chance and order it and see how it turned out. We absolutely love it! It looks great in our girls room! My husband put it together by himself (with a 1 1/2 yr old running around) and he said it was very easy to assemble and didn't take too long either. The chest/dresser is very sturdy and the shelves, drawers, and door fit perfectly with no gaps. It is a great size and has lots of space in it. If we had extra money, I would definitely consider purchasing another one.

Review 16 for South Shore Savannah Door Chest, Pure White
Incredibly disappointing...

My husband and I were so excited to receive this product and now that it is put together we are incredibly disappointed.
Upon opening the box and taking out the pieces we noticed damage especially to the back piece of the chest as there was a giant hole, about the size of my fist, in the center of it. To the credit of the South Shore company they were very friendly on the phone and told us to expect a delivery of the damaged pieces in 2-3 days. As we slowly assembled this product we noticed a lot of chips throughout the different pieces. Also when we put the drawers together we noticed one of the sliders was bent.
Usually my husband is very good at putting our baby's furniture together in a timely manner. It took about 3 hours for him to get this chest put together. The bottom decorative piece on the front doesn't fasten down all the way on one side and the door would not go on evenly. He tried for about half an hour to get the door even, but nothing worked. We read the dimensions of the chest before buying it but I was shocked at how short it was when it was put together. It was not at all what I envisioned, but it is a good size for a small child. Also after all was said and done we are very hesitant to put anything on it or even to keep it as it is incredibly flimsy. It seems like if we attempt to move it, it will just fall apart.
For $170 I didn't expect the best quality, but I certainly expected more. I definitely did not expect a flimsy piece of furniture made of particle board. The chest is cute, but I wouldn't buy it again and if I am able to return this item, I will be returning it.

Looked amazing online and I sadly made the mistake of not reading the bad reviews until my husband and I attempted to put it together. It's got so many pieces that it's just ridiculous. It's horribly cheap and flimsy and even comes with a hook to screw it into the wall so that it doesn't topple over on your child. Not something that I want in my child's nursery after reading that. The screws strip while screwing them in, the flimsy papery wood chips and breaks while putting it together and there are gaps in between the drawers because of how poorly it was constructed. The pieces don't even fit together properly if you put it together! Not to mention that we followed the directions exactly how they said. I would highly recommend you look elsewhere because this is not at all worth the amount of money you're paying. I'm honestly scared to open up the matching changing table for fear that it's as cheap and flimsy as this piece.

Not that bad.
Posted 03/26/2012
For the amount of money spent it really isn't that bad. It hasn't toppled over and we didn't put the hook into the wall. It's not as cheap looking now that it's sitting in the room and the little cracks between the doors are small and look fine. The matching changing table goes fine with it. Really not as bad as it seems.

I absolutely love the look of this armoire. My fiancé and I built it in about an hour and a half for our sons nursery. It doesn't have a wardrobe rack just shelves inside the door. We took out a couple shelves and put one in ourselves. Great for the price. Seems sturdy for what we are using it for. My only complaint is that because it shipped from NY and it wasn't packaged all that great it did have a few damaged pieces. It was really just a nick or ding here or there. Thankfully they were all in places that you can't see like the back. Other than that I LOVE it! Drawers work great, shelves are sturdy, door opens and closes easily and the gaps are even. I think it's perfect for a baby's room.

This chest is very cute and has a great pure white finish. It has lots of shelves and looks very nice in our red nursery. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is a pain to put together. It takes at least 1 1/2-2 hours. The directions are pretty vague also. It will definitely need to be anchored to the wall, as it wobbles from side to side. The door is a tad small and does leave a very small gap at the sides. For the money, it is very cute and practical.
