Spalding 68454 NBA Tempered Glass 54 Inch Screw Jack Portable Basketball System

The portable hoop is better than anticipated in terms of quality, considering the price. The tempered glass backboard makes all the difference compared to cheaper acrylic units. Some of the call-outs were that I could not see the nylon spacers already installed in the backboard and called Huffy/Spalding to order replacement spacers after taking a detailed parts inventory. I spent less than five minutes on the phone with Huffy and was promised the missing parts. A week later, I had not received the nylon spacers and called again. This time I was on hold for a good 15 minutes and when a representative came on, she noted that they were out of stock on those parts and they were not shipped yet. Huffy then decided to send me a longer spacer with 2-Day shipping. The parts did arrive on the third day, but as noted, the original spacers were in the backboard with the foam pad already installed. I had pointed this out to the rep, but she did not know the system well enough to be able to tell me that they were installed. Otherwise, the only other difficulty was getting the 475 pounds of sand into the portable base. Would definitely do the water and ant-freeze next time, but the previous base on another system had cracked and did not hold water after a couple of years. Also the height sticker is incorrectly mounted, but that's an easy fix. The instructions were only unclear on the spacers mentioned and the jack component for the height adjustment. It was not clear that the top bolt had to go through the inner metal tube as well.
Overall, easy to install and well worth it! We love the final result.

Althought the system is not the easiest to put together, it is worth the time and effort of 2 people. All said and done is was about 2.5 hours of work. The stability and feel of this product is superb. I looked at perhaps 5 other portable basketball nets and this is by far the best one I saw. The support system is more than adquate so there is very little shaking, if any. The height adjustment is cake to adjust and I highly recommend this product!

I really enjoy this hoop. Spend the extra money and but this one rather than a cheap one you won't use in 3 months. The backboard is solid and the system does not shimmy when you jack up a 3 ball. The size of the backboard is almost like an indoor goal and unless you are the Ice Man doing finger rolls off the top of the glass, the backboard is quite sufficient. The jackscrew height adjustment is neat as well and does not slip at all like some of the gas shock adjusters. The front guard also keeps the ball in the play area and you don't have to chase it on the lawn all of the time. Just remember to put water in base before tipping up final assembly in order to provide a counterweight. Also, the square metal poles will NOT come apart after you fit them together so make sure you look at the diagram and the position of the holes and not neccesaily the stickers. I held off and waited for a better system and glad I did.

We looked at many backboard systems for our 12 year old son. We originally planned for an in-ground system, but our town would not allow it to be installed at the street. We selected this unit based upon its heavier construction and the glass backboard. The unit took around 4 hours to assembly, a some of the steps definitely require 2 adults. We have had it now for about 2 weeks and it is definitely an upgrade to our old shaky acrylic backboard system. We would definitely recommend this system for someone looking for a medium to high quality system.
