Review 1 for GE CFL Dimmable Floodlight: 15 Watt (65W Equiv), 3 Bulbs/ 3 Packs

Disappointed

I bought these for my bathroom as a replacement for incandescent flood lights. These CFL flood lights take 4 to 6 minutes to warm up to get to their full brightness. After they do, the light is more yellow than white. The refraction of the flood light is as very wide and puts more light to the sides than down. Unless you want to wait a very long time to get yellow light, I would pass on these bulbs.

This product is eco friendly but it does not dim as well as the regular bulb. It dims approx. 20%. It's still better than a regular bulb!

Dimmable CFL

I purchased this product for the main reason of energy savings due to the number of floods I have. I needed to dim them due to the fact that they are in my entertainment room. That said, the lights do not dim as low as a conventional flood and they take time to "warm-up" in order for them to come up to their full brightness. When they are "cold" you need to have the dimmer higher than the lowest setting as they have a tedency to "flicker" if they are first turned on while the dimmer is set on its lowest setting. I have also discovered that different dimmer switch manufacturers produce different results with these dimmable CFL's. Some switches make the ligt turn off abruptly as you dim them prior to reaching the lowest settings.
Over-all these lights will save money on electric however they operate somewhat differently than a regular incandescent flood light.

Quality depends on purpose

Personally I am pleased with this bulb.
If you set your dimmer to full brightness most of the time (as my family does), I highly recommend this bulb. I installed three of these in our house and have experienced no flickering or buzzing.
Points to consider if you dim the lights frequently:
These bulbs do dim and work well with my dimmer. However, I recommend running them at full brightness for a couple minutes before dimming. This allows the bulb to warm up and helps prevent flickering, buzzing, and loss of strike (the bulb goes out). Once they are warm these bulbs do work on all but the very lowest setting of the dimmer. However, the dimmest they get is about 50% of full brightness.
Also, the size of this bulb is R30, which interesting is mentioned on the packaging but not on this website. I'm using these bulbs in an R20 fixture so they stick out sightly, and don't look quit right, but they do fit. If your concerned about looks I would recommend taking one of your current bulbs to the nearest Walmart and comparing sizes. If your bulb is significantly smaller this bulb may not fit well and will probably look a little funny.
If your primary concern is energy efficiency this bulb is a good investment. If looks and ambiance are your primary concern this bulb may or may not be what your looking for.

Flicker Buzz Flicker

I was so excited to finally find a dimmable CFL in a local store. I went to Walmart and bought 6 of these lights. I put 2 in my office, turned them on and they worked great....BUT when I dimmed them (using the appropriate slide dimmer suggested on the box) one buzzed and they both flickered. So, I switched the sockets and the same one buzzed...I replaced it with another light..since I bought 6..and no more buzzing..GREAT, BUT as I dimmed them they continued to flicker and when the dimmer got to a low setting one light went out while the other was dimmed. This was not good so I played with the dimmer switch for a while and confirmed the flickering was not going away and they did not seem to dim at the same rate. So, I thought maybe it was my wireless internet that was interfering with the lights as the boc stated might happen. So I took 4 to the living room and the exact same thing happened...flickering as soon as the dimmer was turned down and near the lowest dimmer setting 2 went out while 2 remained on. Don't expect the dimming to get anywhere near as low as regular light on a dimer will. As much as I want to be green and save money....I would not use them even if they were free.
