This movie is funny and endearing. I like to watch it when I'm stressed out because it's earthy and warm. I love Shirley's sense of adventure and courage--plus her great sense of humor. A predecessor to movies like Bridget Jones' Diary, this might be more of a chick flick than anything else, but it's great all the same.

SHIRLEY VALENTINE IS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME, IMHO. I HAVE WORN OUT TWO VHS TAPES FROM WATCHING THIS OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THE SCENERY IN GREECE IS BEAUTIFUL. THIS MOVIE WILL MAKE EVERY WOMAN OVER 40 WANT TO GO ON HOLIDAY AND FIND THE PERSON YOU ONCE WERE BEFORE HAVING A HUSBAND AND KIDS. HAVE AN AFFAIR WITH YOURSELF AND ENJOY THIS GREAT MOVIE!!THIS MAKES A GREAT GIFT FOR YOUR GIRLFRIENDS TOO.

Wow!! Shirley Valentine must be one of the greatest chick flicks of all times. I do not know if many men would appreciate where Shirley is coming from, but we ladies do! Also, Shirley is middle age, but women from 18 to 101 will appreciate the struggle Shirley goes through to find herself after falling into a hum-drum life. I give this 4 stars all the way and HIGHLY recommend it!
