excellent choice of small space, 10/16/2009

We are using our futon in our office for a 2nd guest bed and reading spot. We were delighted to find that we can use several settings for the couch back or as a lounger. My "big mama" 70+ sister says it sleeps great. I like to have my feet up so it has been great for reading. It was delivered to Walmart ahead of schedule. It came flat in a box so we used our trailer to get it home - opened it up in the garage - then taped it back up to move it upstairs as both the end and back will respond to pressure as they are adjustable. Love this product!!!

This was a purchase for a spare room that only ocassionaly gets used for an overnighter. Regular futons wouldn't cut it. This is a great bed really makes into a full size without the arm rails that limit a taller person. It is also quite comfortable. It was a bonus that it also folds to be a double chaise lounger. Durability has yet to be seen but like the design and functionality of this product.

I liked everything about this futon except the lounge feature because it is on the wrong side. You really ought to be able to choose which end folds up into the lounger.

do not buy, 10/11/2009

This couch looks nice on the site, but they don't tell you that because of the base it sits on the couch sits about 6 inches from the wall. It's stiff to sit on, terrible to lay down on, and the sitting area is too small, not at all comfy. For the money you can do alot better, I'll never buy a couch sight-unseen again. The only reason I'm not returning it is because the thought of putting this back in that massive box and hauling it back to the store is worse than keeping it.

Very Pleased, 09/28/2009
By catcos13, Central Texas
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I selected this couch from Wal-Mart's website for a number of reasons. The size of my new apartment did not allow for large pieces of furniture, this item can be used in three different positions, the cost was way below what I wanted to spend, it was an open style (no armrests) and was not at all like the overstuffed items you find at most furniture stores. I also visited a local futon store who offered a few nearly identical items out of numerous catalogs but for double the price. Since Wal-Mart buys many of their items from the same distributor as competitors, I opted to purchase my couch at the mass-ordered discount.

My 15-year-old son and I have enjoyed the couch for nearly two weeks. It was ordered on a Friday afternoon, shipped to the store in our town and arrived within a week. The box was torn in places, but the couch was not harmed. It was easy to assemble, although it was much easier with three people. The color is slightly lighter than what the picture shows, but not off-white. The material is soft and appears to be durable, as my young male cat has tried to use it as a scratch post a few times. I placed a high thread count, similarly colored, full-size fitted bed sheet (also from Wal-Mart) on the couch so that it can be easily removed for washing on laundry day. You can hardly tell the sheet didn't come with the item.

The couch was bigger than I expected, but that is a good thing. I feared it was going to be too small. And yes, it is firm, but comfortable. I appreciate the lack of that sinking or swallowed feeling one gets from couches that are overstuffed. This item allows us to freely move about and gives us more placement options within the room than what a traditional couch usually offers. If intended as a long-term bed, an egg crate mattress topper may be in order.

We are extremely pleased with the couch and highly recommend it for any desired use.

good 4 looks NOT for use, 08/20/2009

The problem with online shopping is that items seem to be worth the buy but the reality of it this time around was total dissapointment. Case in point this futon that me and my roommate purchased. Appearance wise it looks good but as for its functionality I give it a fair rating. It is very uncomfortable which suprised me because the specs said there was plenty of foam padding. To add to the issues is the noise it makes when ever you move even if slightly. Another complaint is that the seating area seems to fall short. So when you sit in my opinion too much of the leg hangs off and just for reference I am only 5'2". At last the way the futon pulls back to a recline position is a cool feature but is inconvenient. Reasoning being when you use the futon as a couch your sitting one way but then when you recline back the futon your orientation to the TV changes completely. So the only way to fix the problem is to physically move the futon. See the product pictures to see what I mean and pay attention to the different position this futon is capable. To conclude we didn't take it back because of our work schedules hence the whole reason why we bought online.

Look Elsewhere First, 07/17/2009
By wammyreviews
Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

Pros: This futon can be put in many positions. The chaise has multiple positions, higher or lower. The three different positions are cool.

The look is pretty cool too.

cons:

As a bed, for some reason the side you usually sleep on is very hard, while the other side is softer.

Each half is cased into a separate wooden frame, so you might notice that in the middle its particularly harder and not squishy at all, when in bed form. Basically you have to choose a side to sleep on. It seems that the harder part will eventually soften out but I haven't the clue by how much.

I would suggest you get one of the more expensive futons that you can get at a real futon store. Might cost a bit more, but in the end you'll be much more satisfied and no seperations, it will be a complete mattress, no harder or software etc.

I would get some extra padding if you plan on sleeping on it for more than a few days. You'll defenitely need it.

Oh yea, when you initially open it, it will have an odor that you need to vent out. It uses polyurethane foam and it releases some sort of inner odor/gasses as you squish it over time. I also have previous foam products and it took about 2 months before this odor went away, not sure how long this one will take. Hopefully soon.

Reality:

I have mine with an extra padding on top to deal with the softer /harder situation plus a sheet on top of that.

Great Futon, 07/06/2009
By AndrewA19, Hoover, AL
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Two negative points first...and this is problematic with many futons. The mattress is very, very firm in "bed mode." A mattress pad or some extra blankets solves that problem. Also, the futon generates a ton of static electricity if you have hairy legs.

Ok, now on to the good stuff. The appearance is very pleasing. The neutral Khaki color goes nicely with the rest of my wood-colored office furniture. The best feature, by far, is the versatility of the piece. The sofa has two back angle settings before dropping down into a full bed. Once in "bed mode," the top 1/3 can be angled up as a chaise lounge, which is very comfortable for reading (kinda like one of those Craft-Matic beds but much cooler). There are multiple angles in "chaise lounge mode" as well. The armrests double as (very firm) pillows, and ARE included!

Assembly was a snap, 8 hex screws (allen wrench included) and it's ready to go.

One long term concern seeing that I have only had the futon for a few weeks. The cloth material seems kinda thin. I wouldn't be surprised if it shows some wear with constant use.

Overall, this is a really cool, functional futon.

an affordable, functional & atractive product, 06/28/2009
By mamingju, Tulsa, OK
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

The sofa is attractive & relatively comfortable and far more so than any other sofa/futon I considered of comparable price. Assembly was a snap even doing it myself.

The free Site to Store shipping service was excellent, far better than many expensive shipping experiences I have had. I look forward to ordering on line from WalMart again.

I would warn any prospective buyer that they will ned a full size truck to pick this item up; a van or SUV simply won't do.

The only thing is this is VERY Heavy my suggestion is to pay for the delivery it is worth it not to have to carry it from the store to car to your home.

Very Cheap Product, 06/17/2009
By footballguy85, Birmingham, AL
Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

After reading the reviews on this futon I was convinced that it was a good piece of furniture. I was wrong. It is very hard and uncomfortable. After 3 weeks of use one of the legs collapsed. The piece of wood the leg was attached to had 2 staples in it. I would not recommend buying this item because it is very cheaply made.

Hard bar right down the middle, 04/02/2009
By robespierre, earth
Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

in bed mode, there is a very hard bar running down the center (from head to toe). you can sleep on either side of this bar, but not in the middle of the bed. given that it really isn't that wide, it's a problem. I'm perplexed why so few people reviewing this thing mention this issue.

in couch mode, it's fine.

whether this item is "too firm" is obviously a matter of opinion. in mine, it isn't too firm. but given the poor design and corresponding poor function, it's not worth the money.
