Purchased this vaccum about a week ago. It was a great value for the money. I have 2 dogs and a cat that shed. This has been amazing. the only downfall to this item is that it is extremely heavy.

I wanted an upright that would replace the old phantom canister that finally gave up the ghost. I was amazed at what I received. Not only does it store very nicely in my limited space, but it did a wonderful job. It pulled dog hair out of my carpet that belonged to the dog the previous renters had, and I have lived here for almost two years! And it was so easy to empty, without the big mess I was used to. The attachments just make it that much better. I especially love the rotor attachment for the furniture. I recommend the Mach 5 for anyone that wants to know they have a deep clean when they vacuum.

My daughter had purchased a Mach 5 vacumm. She told me about it. When I went to her place I used hers. I came home and went to the Walmart site on the internet and purchased a Mach 5. When it arrived at my home we put it together and used it right away. I couldn't believe my eyes that in just my front room how much you could see in the container. So I vacuumed my couch. Boy again I was surprised how much dirt I got .
I would highly recommend people to buy a Mach 5. I know I sure do like mine.

I really love the way this vacuum picks up the dirt - both on the hardwood floors and bathroom tiles as well as our berber carpet. The only thing I dont care for is that it is on the heavy side and hard to drag up and down the two flights of stairs in my house. As far as the efficiency of the product, however, I really couldnt be happier.

I just received this vacuum and have only used it once. It was easy to assemble and has great suction. I have two cats and the pet hair attachment is great for getting pet hair off of your furniture. The handle on the hose for the attachments is a bit rough on your hand and would be better if it was smooth plastic or rubber coated and had a pistol grip. As others have said it is a bit heavy but not enough for me to say not to buy it.
Overall for the price I would say it is a good buy.

I love this vaccume,though i dont like to clean,its only down fall is its heavy.its easy to put together,the thumb power button an A++,the auto rewind power cord and Long reach hose with a great power head attachment... overall Its quiet,easy to use ,cleans great ,but is heavy if you have to lug up stairs...

We bought the mach 5 on 6-17-07. We began using the product on 6-28-07 after moving into our new home. On 7-4-07 we returned it to the store due to the roller belt stretching and allowing a horrible noise to happen when the vacuum was used. We exchanged it for a new one because we liked how it cleaned the carpet and how well it picked up pet hair when it worked properly. One 8-19-07 we once again had to bring the 2nd mach 5 back to the store for the exact same problem. We did not exchange it for our 3rd mach 5, we took a refund! States on the box that it works as well as a Dyson. We found out rather quickly if you want it to work and last like a Dyson, you will need to buy a Dyson.

Our previous vacuum was a Hoover Windtunnel self propelled. Keep this in mind as I compare.
Love it for the following reasons:
1) Quiet - about half as loud as previous
2) Cleans extremely well, 5 stars for pet hair
3) Hose and attachments are very handy. Great for cleaning stairs - long hose w/handle
4) filter is easy to clean & I dont have to replace
5) attachments actually stay where they belong
6) self retracting cord is awesome!!!
7) vacuum lays perfectly flat - for getting under beds
Things that aren't so great:
1) heavy - compared to old vacuum but not to the point where my 4 year old can't use it
2) Wheels - the wheels are probably the weakest point. They don't exactly turn freely and appear to be cheap. Again my 4 year old can manage but an improvement in this area would bring significant improvement.
3) The Carpet Height adjustment is slightly akward but functional
4) While the vac lays all they way down the girth prevents this vac from going under many items
5) Strange hum when fully upright with motor on?
Overall we are very pleased and feel that we got an incredible value. We were considering a Dyson but are 100% satisfied now at less than half the cost.

After yet another low-priced vacuum started to lose any kind of sucking power, despite my replacing of the filter and the belt, I decided to look at getting one that would actually withstand some level of punishment and last me a good few years. Dyson's are great, from first-hand experience, but way out of my price range. Thankfully, one of Dyson's patents has recently expired allowing manufacturers to try their hand at cheaper clones. According to a number of message boards, this is the best of them so far. I can't argue with that from my experiences -- this is a very powerful vacuum and it was incredible how much dirt it pulled out of the carpet I had just cleaned earlier that day with a neighbor's borrowed vac. Doesn't skip a beat on cat hair. It's a little on the heavy side, but nothing unmanageable, but on the other hand it also feels much more solid than cheap vacs. Plus, it simply won't lose suction over time, as long as you take care of it.
(Wash the pre-motor filter once each month, using water only, no soap, allow to dry. Wash the post-motor Hepa filter once each year, using water only, no soap, allow to dry. Replace drive belt (only cost a few bucks) every 1-2 years.)
Anyway, best vacuum I've ever owned. And hooray for no more pricey filters to buy.

After carefully comparing many brands of bag less vacuums & reading countless reviews, I was left with 2 different Hoovers to choose from that had what I was looking for. Due to availability of the other model my decision was easy, I went with the Mach 5. I was one click away from ordering it online, the $.97 cent shipping was so tempting! Alas I opted to head to the local Walmart to see if it was in stock & luckily for me it was.
First off I'd like to begin by saying that this vacuum is heavy to lift but glides along the carpet quite easily. I found it to be a much much quieter vacuum than my Dirt Devil Vision that I've had almost ten years.
I felt that the assembly was simple & I was vacuuming in less than ten minutes after opening the box.
The 2 things I already love most about the Mach 5 is the retractable cord at a touch of the button & the Pet Hair Cleaning tool. This tool allows me to vacuum my kitty condo's with ease & removes more hair than any method I've previously tried. Having 4 cats this tool is a must have. It's sleek look is impressive as well.
As far as things I feel will take some getting use to, the weight for one & the release button on the bottom of the dirt cup seems to stick a bit which I'm hoping in time will just release.
Overall I am extremely pleased with my Hoover Mach 5 thus far.

This product works better than any other vac outher. Dyson does not compare. It is a little heavy for a pregnant woman that is 7 mons along but that normal everything is heavy right now. We love it we can clean almost evry thing with it. It did better on the carpets in my car than a hoover car vac and a shop vac . We love it. Best investment we have ever made.

When I saw Hoover's Mach 5, I thought this was everything I was looking for. I loved the features and the price. I purchased the vacuum June 24, 2007 and returned it August 8. I have used the vacuum 5-6 times. With that, I could no longer take advantage of the adjustable handle because the power kept turning off while vacuuming. The vacuum also made a horrible high pitch whistle. When I could no longer do two swipes of carpet without shaking the handle to keep the power, I returned the Mach 5. Also it didn't vacuum close to edges and was heavier than my previous vacuum. Terribly Disappointed.

my wife uses it every day-...
the filters are easy to clean and the hepa filter never need to be replaced, maybe I get one after 10 years or so..
It has amazing suction etc.

I love this vacuum. When it said that it cleaned better than Dyson, I thought "yeah, easy to say, because I couldn't afford to own a Dyson to compare it!" But I must say that this is a fantastic machine. I was sick for a week, and my white boxer laid on my burgandy colored rug near me for almost that whole time. Needless to say, I was dreading cleaning the rug to the point of considering throwing it out rather than stuggle with my old machine. Instead, I purchased this vacuum. I was stunned! It effortlessly cleaned that carpet and left not one short dog hair behind. I wish I had the money to buy one of these for each family member because it is a dream machine. I love it.

This new Hoover works as good if not better than any I have used over 40 years. The retractable cord is a great feature. The on/off switch on the handle is very convenient. Easy to use for small and large jobs.
