Wasted an entire day trying to get this to work. Could not get it to set up and connect to any wireless devices. Customer support had a 40 min wait. Could not find a solution online.

This router has made a big difference for me. Everything I had hoped for. I am strictly a "rookie" at these things, but this has not only made the internet faster, but, also made wireless connections easier and faster.
I used the CD to install, had a couple problems that I could not solve but it was because of my old router. Called the service phn. #, and I could not believe how great that worked out. She was not only nice, but was patient with me, and she helped me do everything I needed to get done (registering, passwords, hooking up things). I was more than pleasantly surprised based on some of the reviews I had read before ordering this router.
Worked out great for this "rookie", see no reason why it would not for you!!!

I have had this router for about 3 weeks now. No hiccups. Speed is great, and very future capable with its gigabit ports. Wifi is good, but range is only as good as your laptop card can send back to the router. The setup wizard was a hassle and it did not allow a connection to my isp, but i logged in manually and reset it, then set it up from the console. It used the same settings as before, but this time it worked fine. Maybe it was a fluke in the wizard. It has smart speed sharing where it tests your connection speed and then knows how to split up the share. The only downside to this router is the status lights, They are bright blue, and i mean bright. There is no option in the menu to turn off port lights like my other linksys. I have not used Shareport at all so i cant comment on that. I am trained in computer networking, so I really appreciate the amount of controls the menus hold. Very customizable. I highly recommend this router.

This product was highly recommended by our local computer guru to replace a N150 router as I frequently lost connectivity. Our modem and router are located in our library on the first floor, and my laptop is on the second floor, so a more powerful router was recommended. Reviews in other product comparison sites were also quite favorable. Some of these reviews touted not only the performance of the D-link DIR-655, but the easy of setting it up.
Wrong! At least for a technology unsophisticate like me. After about two hours of trying, my wife arrived home. She is more knowledgeable than I, but even so the Wizard would not download or help. She finally and very painstakingly installed the router following manual instructions. Lo and behold, it finally worked!
Many users would not have these problems, and I have to laugh a bit at myself for some of the errors I made in my attempts. Didn't seem at all funny at the time though.
Bottom line: properly installed and connected, it works much better than the old, less powerful router. Only very occasional and brief loss of conectivity. (Still not at all sure why.) My DIR-655 cost $79.95 with no shipping charge from Walmart and arrived a day or two earlier than expected!
Very satisfied...and gratefully to my wife who saved my sanity.

I recieved router earlier than they said. I had it set up with the cd quick. Used it on wired network with my old desktops. It improved their preformance. My old router had the broadband modem lite up amber, The new router lite it up blue and increased speed. I purchase 2 laptops from Walmart. I set laptops up on the wireless network. Now have 4 computers working on the router. All can be up and running without any speed reduction. I don't like this new router, I love it. For the exspense of the router, it was cheap for the preformance it gives. I highly reccomend this router for any home network.

guest zone doesn't work correctly; no tech support

I bought this for my church because it claims to have a guest zone. The church's internal network should be protected from users in the guest zone, but it isn't. I opened a ticket with D-Link customer service, who said upgrade the firmware. I did, but then the guest zone didn't work at all. So I dropped back one level of firmware. Then it was like before -- guest zone worked but the church's internal could be accessed from it. No further response from D-Link's customer service. I will be returning this router to Wal-Mart. Other vendors, including Linksys (Cisco), have wireless routers with guest zones that work correctly.

This router is providing good connections through out my home and even under a heavy load (2 lap tops, 2 different PS3s & 3 smart phone all connected at the same time) it has yet to drop any connection.

Overall the D-Link DIR-655 router works good. I was not able to run the set-up wizard because of a communication/capatability issue with my Comcast Cable Internet modem (Ubee). But I called D-Link technical support and the technician was very helpful and walked me through a manual setup. Now its working great.

I WAS having problems with 2 other routers and my wireless connection - not any more. It took me just about 20 minutes to get fully connected and so far it's been working well - continous wireless is always a good thing!

This was a router recommended for use with our iPads and it seems to have worked to solve our problems with "internet hesitation." Formerly used a Netgear router which seemed to have some deficiencies when married to our internet service provider's system. This D-Link doesn't have those problems.
I had to spend over an hour, though, on the phone with D-Link to download and install a mod before the router would work correctly.

The router installed into my network with minimum effort. It uses a diferent default IP than my previous router so there was a little configuration required, but it should be no problem for experienced users. The range and throughput seem to be excellent.

I purchased this item to replace the router that was provided by my ISP. I tried to connect this with an Actiontec dsl modem, and I never was able to get it to connect. I returned for a full refund.
