I bought this unit to heat and cool my 24’ x 36’ workshop/mancave. I shopped around and read reviews online and I finally settled on this unit because it was the best deal I found when it came to BTU’s for the buck. The fact that it did not have an energy star rating meant little to me because I would only be using it on the weekends and evenings anyway. After using it for three weeks in southern Colorado during a spring with both very warm and cold weather, here is my opinion.
It was clear from the product description that this unit did not have a remote control and that there was only one fan speed setting, meaning that when either heating or cooling on hi or low settings that the fan would always operate at the same constant speed, high. The product description was accurate, the only inaccuracy is that it said it was ultra quiet. It’s not too loud, but it is not ultra quiet. The only info missing was that this unit is a 220 volt 20 amp, which I didn’t know till I got it home.
The fan always blows strong, like a high setting. I put a meat thermometer directly in the front of the blower to see exactly what it would do. After five minutes of operation, the high warming setting blows a constant 98 degrees and made my shop comfortable for the guys to watch the races, shoot pool and have cold beverages when it was in the low thirties outside. I did have to turn the TV up a little because of the fan noise, no biggie. I think if the fan didn’t blow so strong it would probably heat even better. I had to direct the air output towards the floor because the strong blower could be felt all the way across the room, but that far away it no longer felt warm. A lower fan setting would allow for more heat to be produced with less blower noise. Haier should really consider this.
During cooling, the unit blew at forty-five degrees when the shop started at eighty degrees inside. I had to turn it off after half an hour because it got too cool. That is the only time I have used the cooling side.
If you are looking for the best price on a no-frills heating/cooling unit for a large room or workshop and connecting it to 220 volts isn’t a problem, this is a good choice for your money.
