I wasn't expecting anything really great for the price I paid, but I was surprised when I used it for the first time. It cooked my roast to perfection and was actually done earlier than the recipe indicated. The outer heating portion is very light (the reason for only 4 stars under durability) and I imagine it would dent easily when the insert isn't in it, but if you keep that in mind it should be alright. The heavy duty stoneware crock is a dream to clean. I haven't used the lid latch yet, but I'm looking forward to it. There are grooves under each handle and you simply place the band into the grove under one side of the handle and stretch it across to the groove on the other side. Once the band is attached, it can also be crossed over the knob to further secure the lid. You can then set the slow cooker in the carrying case by fitting the handles through the openings in the case, zip it up and you're ready to go. The carrying case can be cleaned by wiping with a damp sponge. For bigger spills you can hand wash it in cold water and mild detergent.
