I own 2 sets both versions of the wire hook up.
First set has plug in types .
The newer set has black red to clip in.
A- one set is on Optical on my 40 in Samsung 1080P/HD DVD player Xbox2 Direct tv hdtv (96 in HD)
On optical it just finds whats it needs and starts the player.Also crisper and cleaner sounding.
The hardware in the sub and the sound center is advanced wellwith wireless remote. The sub has it all for all types and does a great job handling it all t from tv to movie to sports.
I call these home theater speakers.
Almost an insult to call PCones when no other out like as good . runs many devices and is flexable.
B- other one is on my Quad Core PC with a PS2 and a 24in monitor wide screen with ati hdtunner
I run everything on optical which is the best way to use gets the most features to use.
Not many can match the The Z5500 5.1 and most that do want 3x more in movie department
