I wondered if there would ever be anything that could compare to the good ole 48g from days gone by. I could not be Happier with my 50g. She is my new best friend at work.

This calculator has met my expectations so far and still impresses me everyday. I have a friend that bought a TI-84 or something like that after a day with the HP-50g he has put his old one on sale and wants to purchase this same one.

Review 3 for HP 50G Graphing Calculator

Good Scientific Calculator, 07/31/2009
By AnEngineersPerspective, Rochester, NY
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

After 15 years, I lost my HP 48. I was quite apprehensive about getting a new calculator. I use a calculator for more than balancing a checkbook so, of course, TI was out. After looking at the reviews/ recommendations there really was only one choice for a real scientific calculator - the 50G.

The 50G is quite a bit faster than the 48 for the features that I use, and it has an updated serial port to connect to USB.

The manual contained enough to get me started. Though the "User Guide" is freely available as a pdf, it would have been nice if they provided the it in hard-copy like they did with the 48.

Where some buttons moved and some menus changed, the 50G is a solid replacement to the 48. All is right with the world again.

I had an old HP28S that died on me so I upgraded to the HP50G. This is my new favorite calculator. The USB connection is a little flaky for library transfers. I haven't used an SD card in it.

Review 5 for HP 50G Graphing Calculator

HP50G, 06/13/2009
By Hp50Gisthebestcalculator
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

HP is king when it comes to hand held calculators for the scientific professional. This calculator exceeds all expectations for a value of under $100.
It is worth much more. The SD card was a needed improvement over the HP48 and 49 series. The data is now more secure. Even the case that comes with it is a nice soft leather. The programming language allows for split second calculations making the windows CE hand held devices costing $1500 seem sluggish.

Review 6 for HP 50G Graphing Calculator

Very useful product, 03/14/2009
By Ngenear
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I used to use an HP41C for years until the keyboard died. I really like the RPN calulation method as I have gotten used to it with the 41C. I think the 50G is a very good product. It's a little overwhelming at first with all the features it has available. Also it doesn't really ship with in-depth documentation... you gotta get that on line. I did have to send the first one back... the divide key was "mushy" and didn't have the same response as all the other keys. The replacement works great and I had zero problems in getting credit for the first defective unit.

Works like a charm!, 11/04/2008
By Saboteur, Oshkosh, WI
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

This calculator does everything that I need it to do as a college student in two hundred and three hundred level math courses. My current class is a linear algebra class and this calculator does vectors and matrices very easily and very well. It only took a couple of hours to learn how to do everything by reading the CD User's Guide.

Review 10 for HP 50G Graphing Calculator

A Great Scientific Calculator, 08/16/2008
By Classof76, Texas
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

The HP 50g is a great calcuator, but it is not for everybody. Unless you are an engineer or scientist, or majoring in engineering or a science in college, you probably don't need this much horsepower.

The only problem that I have with this unit is that the documentation is relatively poor.

With over 2300 built in functions, plus powerful programmability, there is a lot to learn. However, there is tons of stuff out on the web to help you learn how to use it.

I previously had a HP48G that I used every day at work. When It finiall died i upgraded to the 50G. The only thing that i did not care for was that they moved the "ENTER" button from the middle left to the bottom right of the keypad. I has taken a while to get used to that. I LOVE my HP!

Ultimate Power, 08/12/2008
By Archimedes
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I read a lot of reviews before I decided on the HP50g. It's like having the power of a computer in the palm of your hand. I like the fact that you can use it in either the Algebraic Mode or R.P.N. Besides if they were good enough for NASA, their good enough for me.

Review 14 for HP 50G Graphing Calculator

Former 41CV user, 04/30/2008
By MechanicalEngineerBSME, Kansas
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

The HP 50G is a very fine calculator, but the manual is atrocious. I had to get online to find how to store and recall memory values and still don't like the way that feature works. I was spoiled with the well designed and extremely user-friendly HP41 line of calculators, so moving to the 50G is painful at best. The calculator certainly has a lot of features and of course the RPN is great, but the poor documentation on how to work the thing, coupled with the fact that some common features are just plain inconvenient (e.g. sto/rcl) really causes me to downgrade the calculator's overall rating.

Decent HP48GX replacement, 04/14/2008
By WhydoIneedanickname01, SC
Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

I have a HP48GX that I love, but needed a calculator for work and the GX is worth too much to leave at work, so I ordered the 50G after reading lots of reviews. Was worried about the keyboard feel, but this one seems good. I need to look into double-tap speed because I miss a lot of repeat digits by pressing the keys too quickly. I wish the enter key was bigger, well basically I wish the whole keyboard was laid out the same way. I use RPN and the softkey menus and it works basically the same. The equation library requires a few more keystrokes to get to and the bigger screen gets 3 more lines (to 7) on the stack. The SD slot and USB connection are big pluses also. It will work like a regular (non-RPN) calculator but I can't figure out why someone would want this nice of calculator and not use RPN. Once you learn RPN well enough to enter a long equation - you'll know exactly why.

Review 16 for HP 50G Graphing Calculator

Way better than my TI-89 Titanium, 04/11/2008
By m96003, Palo Cedro, CA
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

Over the two plus weeks that I have had it I have been able to complete work faster and more efficiently. I love the RPN once I got used to it and the fact that I can use the algebraic entry method as well. I purchased a 1GB SD card from Wal-Mart and I don't think I will ever use it all. Compared to the TI-89 Titanium I was using I can do calculations faster and the fact that it has over 300 built in equations that I am using right now in my classes. I would recommend this to anyone serious about engineering or high level math compared to the 89.

Review 17 for HP 50G Graphing Calculator

Excellent, Full-Function Graphing Calculator, 10/21/2007
By kemvirginia, Northern Virginia
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

The HP-50g is the all-singing, all-dancing, top of the line calculator for students, engineers, and mathematicians. It may be a bit much if all you want to do is add, subtract, and some financial calculations.
It is so full featured that you should plan on spending some time to review the several hundred pages of user's guide and advanced user's guides available from HP, and possibly also purchase a 3rd party manual to help you learn to use all the features it has available.
I should say that Wally World had the best consistent price for this calculator. HP occasionally matched it (I watched for a couple of months), but only met WM's price twice in that time, and their shipping charges were more expensive.

Great calculator For Professional Engineers, 08/17/2007
By ChemEng, St. Louis, MO
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I just wanted to provide some positive feedback on the 50g. This is one great calculator. Very powerful, tons of memory, love the RPN. Great upgrade from the 48G, which I have used for over 10 years as a chemical engineer. The enter button on the corner is not an issue to me that others have made it out to be.

Bought in on-line, and Walmart's delivery was early, arrived in great shape, and everything works great. Can not beat the price. Battery life is surprisingly good compared with what I've read on other forums.

Thanks HP and Walmart !
