I wanted to be able to make both pocket sandwiches and waffles. My children like several varieties of each. Therefore, I needed the removable plates.

I find that this unit is easy to use, easy to clean (the removable plates make that easier, also) and easy to store on the countertop.

I can't vouch for durability because I have had it only a month, but we use it at least twice per week, and sometimes more. So far, so good.

It has the same flaws that all sandwich makers of this type have: the sandwich pockets could be a bit deeper, it's hard to clean the unit itself, it's not really warmed up enough when the green light goes on and you must wait 1-2 minutes more before using.

Overall, I'm happy with it and my children are enjoying it a great deal .

I love it and I use it almost everyday since i got it !!! It s easy to clean and it makes great sandwiches and waffles !!! And the recipe ideas, just great !!!

Especially liked the washable/removable grids;sandwich grill could be larger and deeper-it squishes the sandwiches too much;would prefer to have an off-on switch.

Well, I threw away a very old waffle iron that was a hazard due to a frayed cord and was not non-stick any longer, so maybe this colors my review, but I love this thing. The plates are easily removed for cleaning, and one can make waffles and pannini. Additionally, it is very attractive looking, and the price is right.
