The machine squeaks and it feels somewhat unstable, but what do you expect for the price? It serves its purpose. My girlfriend and I both use it frequently. It feels like it is about to break when I use it, but it hasn't. I would recomend buying the insurance.

We were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to put together. It works wonderful. The display screen is very easy to control. Plus the ease of picking it up at our local store and the wonderful customer service made our purchase even better.

I purchased the Image 8.25 for my fiance and we both are very pleased with it. I will agree that it was not the easiest thing to put together, but I was able to assemble it my self. We have only had it for three weeks, but have not had any problems. I would recommend this elliptical, especially for the money spent. The different settings will give you a great workout and keep you challenged.

Really - what can you expect to get for $200? I've owned the machine for about 1 year. After four months it started making a squeaking noise inside. I loosened a couple of bolts and it fixed the squeak but it changed the adjustable tension. The rod that sticks out on the right side that holds the foot pad arm broke off the steel on the inside. I took the machine apart again and saw where the 'crank arm' cracked through the weld for the rod. This is obviously poor design or a manufacturing defect. I called the customer care center - they were happy to send me a replacement for $74 PLUS Shipping costs. This is a piece of tube steel with about 6 holes drilled through the middle. I would say it cost maybe $2 to make. Needless to say, I am not going to order a replacement part.
If you want quality, you'll have to pay for it. I would never buy another product from IMAGE. If you break something during the warranty - ok, but if it's out of warranty, plan on spending big bucks for replacement parts.

Ya'll gotta try this. You'll be amazed at the results. Don't expect a quick loss of inches, but if you put forth the effort - you WILL notice a big improvement as far as your endurance in aerobic type activity. My son and I put it together and we both use it!! My husband is even using it now!! And I thought all he knew how to do was hunt and fish!

I was impressed when I assembled this machine - the directions were clear and the parts seemed heavy and sturdy. However, during my first workout, the unit started making terrible noises. Turns out part of the flywheel inside is plastic, and it was apparently off-center, causing it to rub against an adjacent part. After getting that problem fixed, I dealt with serious squeaking issues during use, which I minimized by putting a block of wood under a portion of the frame. Finally, however, the drive belt began to shred, depositing a swath of shredded rubber underneath the unit. Enough was enough - we were within the 90 day warranty and returned it to Wal-Mart.

Good machine overall

The machine took a good while to assemble. It requires 2 people to put together but once assembled, its ready to use. It's pretty self-explanatory but if you must read the short users guide you can. The resistance levels are great and automatically come on when following one of the training exercises. The only downfall to this product is that it is not as smooth and quiet as I had expected. After double and triple-checking all the bolts and screws, I found it to be a little on the bumpy side even though the floor is level. If you can get past the slight noise and "bumpiness" then this product is great and does the job of any of the other more expensive machines on the market.

I have used this machine for about 2 months 3-4 times a week and the frame has already cracked. At first I thought the machine was not level but eventully it has pretty much cracked in half. I would not recommend this machine to anyone. Spend a little more for a machine that will last.

I have had my machine about 2 months. After the first week it will drive you crazy by the noise it makes. It's a very loud squeak. My husband can hear it loud in the other room every time I work out on it. Good thing I don't work out that long on it or he would throw us both out the door. And I made sure to grease it really good when I was putting it together. But it didn't help. If I had it all to do over I would have bought a treadmill for my money and peace of mind. And some peace and quiet.I don't know what I'm going to do it seems to get louder every day.

My wife purchased this elliptical machine for me as a Christmas present on 12-21-07. She also purchased the 2 year extended warranty contract. After putting it together I tried it out and it squeaked very loudly. On February 28 while I was using it, the pedals started hitting the front cross bars. I got off and noticed that the bottom of the machine was touching the floor. I lay it on its side and discovered the frame was broken. I called the Image company and was told I would have to send or email a copy of my receipt and photos of where it was broken. I did so, but they gave me the wrong email address so call again for the correct email address and sent them again. They called and left me a message at my home on Saturday 3-1-08 and said it was not a covered item as my warranty ran out on 3-21-07. (Kind of strange since my wife purchased it 9 months after that date on 12-21-07.) I called Wal-mart on Sunday 3-2-08 and explained the situation to them. They said I could bring it back and they would refund all of my money including what she spent for the extended warranty contract. I was very relieved. I called the Image company again on Monday 3-3-08 to ask them why my warranty on the frame ran out 9 months before I bought the machine and was told the frame warranty is good for 3 months from the day the machine was built????? So I asked them if they built it and it sat in their warehouse for three months before someone purchased it is the warranty void before it is purchased? They said yes..that is the company policy. I would not recommend any product sold by this company to anyone. If the warranty runs out before it is purchased what good is it

Before I bought this machine I was working out at my local gym four days a week. I was able to use their ellipticals for 30 mins on level 6 resistance at around 200 RPMs. I've had this machine for four months and it has taken me 2 months just to be able to do 30 mins. I even have it on the lowest resistance level but since it is so much stronger that the one at the gym, my legs are starting to get bigger which was not what I wanted at all. Also, since day one it has a had a clacking noise. It hasn't gotten any worse, but if it wasn't for my MP3 Player I would not be able to stand it. In fact my roommates hide in their rooms while I'm on it. Overall I do not recommend this product for anyone who's just wanting to get a good high speed cardio workout. The only thing this machine is good for is building muscle so if that's not what you want, look somewhere else.

I bought this 1 year ago... The magnetic resistance broke right around the 1 year mark. I use it every day for 30 minutes a day. It has good features but it is not built to last. Something has broken inside and the machine became to wobbly to use. Pay more for a better quality machine with the fly wheel in the front.

Don't buy this machine if you aren't in GOOD shape! This isn't for amatuers! If you have lower back problems, don't buy this machine. At 34 y/o I can only do 2 mins. on the lowest setting before my back hurts so bad I have to stop. As for the machine itself, it seems to work great. You just need to be in GOOD shape to utilize it.
Assembly was a nightmare. The directions aren't very clear in some very key points of assembly.

My husband bought this for my Christmas present. I didn't start using it until second week of January, 08. We returned the machine February 8, 08. The machine broke. When I used it the second time it started to make a grinding noise but it still worked. After the fourth time on it, I saw black plastic stuff on the floor under the machine. It looked like strips of a tire coming apart. My machine still worked with the noise so I still used it until my husband had time to see why it was causing the black stuff. Before my husband could look at it, it stopped working. I couldn't use the pedals anymore. My husband took it apart and the belt came apart. That's what the black strips were, the belt coming apart. I would spend more money and get something better. You get what you pay for. I was so glad that Walmart took it back.

My son & I assembled it and that went pretty easily.I use it daily, the front bars knock into eachother because we screwed in the slightly shorter screws and after greasing it could not unscrew them and correct it. It "sheds" grease on the floor, so definitely have something under it. Iput rubberbands between the two front bars so they do not knock anymore. One of the back screws attached to the "rotator" is screwed in tight but still knocks. I get a good workout though, have 2 months left on the warranty, if it's worse by then, I will return it.

Got this a last week. Took 2 hours to assemble (alone). Couple of bolts (1 bolt and 2 screws) did not have deep enough pocket for the Allen Key or Philip Screwdriver, but I have a good supply of bolts, nuts and screws, and I substituted them. Also, I used my own Lithium Soap Grease (the packet supplied is inadequate) during assembly. It looks pretty robust. I agree with the reviewers regarding the handles not staying up no matter how much they are tightened. I primarily bought this so that my wife can exercise at home, and I did not want to invest a lot, in case it is not used much. If it works well for a year, I would say it is money very well spent. Being a mechanical engineer by training, I see no reason why the frame or journal bearings would fail before. I do think that the foot pedals might fail earlier (they are plastic, and I do not think they are going to be very durable). I will update my post depending on how durable this machine ends up. The work out I get on this is much better than the one I have on a Precor 544 at my office Gym (Precor is a commercial model, with adjustable ramps, but no arms for upper body workout). However, the 2 programs, I find quite useless, because they set the resistance at 8 or 9, which makes it quite hard to move. Lowering the resistance manually while using the programs only lowers it for the current section, and the resistance shoots up as soon as the program moves to the next section, which has to be lowered again. So, I have stopped using these programs, and workout in manual mode, which will be adequate for most users. I do find that the 10 levels of resistance work as advertised, 1 being easiest, and 10 almost makes it work at "STEPPER INTENSITY". One of the reviewers had a question about "Distance" displayed, whether it is meters or feet or yards. Actually, the distance merely tells how many revolutions the flywheel completed, and is roughly 1/2 the value of steps taken during the exercise. I would recommend it to anybody who is not sure whether they will be able to use this regularly, and anybody who is taking baby steps into an exercise routine. Having this accessible at all times will certainly help your cause - without breaking the bank. However, if you are motivated enough and sure that you will be using the machine regularly, or if you have plenty of cash to spare, it is always better to go for higher models from manufacturers like Precor.
