Review 41 for West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Popper
Going down hill,

This unit doesn't seem as sturdy as the previous one I had. I think it needs to have the stir shaft sealed so liquid can't get down into the workings. This would make it more reliable and longer lasting and I would be willing to pay a little more for this feature. Also the stir rod needs to be closer to the bottom so the kernels don't get wedged under it. This unit reverses very often where the old one just kept on stirring and didn't reverse until all the corn was popped.

Good, but didn't last long,

I bought one of these about a year ago. It worked, great, was fast, the popcorn was good and popped all kernals. Never had any that didn't pop. A few months ago the part that holds the wire that goes around as the popcorn pops broke. I was about to throw it out, but instead I put the popcorn in it, and just move the popcorn around myself. It pops fast and it's still good. I just wait until I don't hear popping. Even broke it's OK, still wish it had lasted longer!! The only other bad part is that the kernals get stuck under the wire that goes around which is why it broke.

I dont htinks its as easy to use as I has hoped. Plus you still have to use oil to get it to pop, whet I really wanted was an air popper. I think I will be taking this back.

I received this popper for Christmas and I LOVE IT! To me it tastes better than movie popcorn. The popcorn pops fast and clean up is not too bad. The only concern I had was that the stirrer scratched off some of the non-stick coating, but nothing has stuck to it and no kernels left unpopped so far. I got some popcorn packets with it, and they are great, they have the exact amount of oil and popcorn. The only problem I am having is trying not to eat too much of it! I will consider this popper for future Christmas, birthday, and wedding gifts.

This is our 2nd Stir Crazy and replaced a seven year old very much used unit. We make real popcorn about three times a week in olive oil. We don't use the top butter melter thingy because it seems easier to melt it in the micro and dump it over the split batch of popcorn. Yummy! Frequently, it's dinner when honey is out.

IF YOU LIKE POPCORN, AND ENJOY POPPING IT...THIS IS A FUN AND TASTY WAY TO POP IT...WE HAVE AN AIR POPPER, BUT THE POP CORN HAS NO FLAVOR...WE USE A GOOD OIL, A TOUCH OF SALT, AND A LITTLE SMART BUTTER SPRAY AND THE POP CORN IS DELICIOUS...SO MUCH BETTER THAN WORRYING ABOUT WHAT'S IN MICROWAVE POP CORN...AND THE CHILDREN LOVE TO WATCH IT POP TOO...MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT IT ISN'T DURABLE ENOUGH FOR THE AMOUNT OF USE WE WILL GIVE IT...SO FAR SO GOOD.

I used one of these for years and it was great product until motor stopped. The new model does not work as well as the first model as the motor is weak and reverses it self when little power is applied. I call the product tech help desk and was told it was nornal which I beleive to wrong. Very disappointed in their help. Wal-mart is a great place to shop.

I'm about to purchase my third popper. I love the old fashioned popcorn taste, and it works great, but be careful. If you knock it off the counter, all parts break easily. I used it for a while with a cracked lid. The non-stick metal liner of the bottom was not in alignment with the plastic housing, and it still worked, although the lid did not fit properly. The second time I dropped it, the hard plastic section of the plug cracked right where it plugs into the bottom of the popper. I taped it up and it actually still worked, but I was afraid it might be dangerous and threw it away, so I wouldn't be tempted to use it again.

The West Bend Stir Crazy Popcorn Popper was bigger than I expected for the price I paid. I've finally found a popcorn popper that makes popcorn taste like the kind my Dad used to pop when I was young - before microwave. The only differnce was the revolving bar in it that keeps the popcorn from sticking. I had to call my Dad that night.

If you like making popcorn on the stove and you can not make popcorn on your smooth top, this is a great alternative. I recommend using the instructions for 4 quarts of popcorn because it pretty much fills the whole popcorn maker, especially with fresh yellow popcorn. No burnt popcorn and very few leftover popcorn kernels. I prefer to use spray butter instead of melting the butter at the top because 1)butter does not distribute throughout 2)keeps too much steam in popcorn maker and therefore, soggier popcorn and 3)less mess to clean. You can not put any of the popcorn maker in the dishwasher but it is easy to clean. You will need to find a large space to store the popcorn maker because it is large and bulky but it is lightweight.

Does exactly what we want it to. We replaced our old one (different brand, different store) because it was too hard to clean--the yellow plastic cover looked filthy and we could not remove old dried oil. This one's clear plastic cover looks much nicer and the oil comes off it easily. I've heard stories that this model stopped working within a year. This model is not supposed to be immersed in any liquid. Did someone try to clean it by soaking it in the sink? That would cause the heating element to rust out. Our unit makes a kind of small squealing sound as it starts. It doesn't affect the quality of the popcorn at all.
