Well Worth $150

This Bike is amazing. Today I reached 10,000 miles on it. I got it for Christmas of 2007. I have had my rear axle break, the rear cassette break, and the bottom bracket break but I have kept the bike going. The Frame is still perfectly intact. I just want to show you that a bike bought from Walmart can do amazing things. I am very disappointed to see that this bike is no longer available at walmart.

Dollar for Dollar, great bike!

I have owned my Schwinn Varsity road bike for a couple weeks and have put around 75miles on it.
I paid two extra dollars to have them ship the bike directly to my house, also saving several days in transit. I would highly recommend looking into this. Im sure the delivery charge will fluxuate depending on where you live.
Before I received my bike, I educated myself on the maintenance of road bikes. http://bicycletutor.com/.
I would **highly** recommend thoroughly checking every component of your bike before you ride it. After all.... its being assembled on a line in China. If you dont feel comfortable, take it to a bike shop.
The seat isnt bad. If you have a big rump, you might want to look into some extra padding or a different seat.
The rims arrived in as good of condition as I could of hoped (for the price). I didnt feel the need to take them to a mechanic to get them trued.
It is a light weight bike. The bike feels really sturdy. (I weigh 210). Im not a tough guy, but i can easily curl this bike with one arm over and over again.
The instruction manual goes into detail of every component on the bike. Assembly of the bike was easy and took me about 90 minutes. I am sure some people could assemble it in 15minutes but I was very careful and took my time.
I read a bunch of reviews before I bought my bike (50+ reviews). I am here to tell you, I am very satisfied with this purchase. I honestly have nothing to complain about. The transaction was easy, delivery was right on time and quick, assembly was as simple as assembly gets.
neways, I hope I helped someone by taking time to write this review.

I was looking for a bike that had a good combination of low price and a great product, and feel I hit a HOME RUN! This bike is half the price of many other entry level road bikes, but yet is an excellent quality product. I will be using it for many years to come.

I've put hundreds upon hundreds of miles on this bike. The rule of thumb s you don't use your fancy bike for a commuter. This bike rides like a much more expensive bike, and is durable enough to be a day to day commuter. I've only had to replace the front wheel thanks to an ignorant motorist. It hasn't needed much servicing at all, just an adjustment here and there. I put new tires on it right after I bought it so I am not sure about the flat problems. I say if you are looking for an awesome bike for the buck pick this baby up.

$200 road bike

This bike performs like you should expect. Heavy, slow and won't do you any favors with the shifting. Expect the shifting to pop no matter how much you tune it, that happens with low quality components.
Overall however this bike has a few great upsides. The price obviously is great. Steel is more supple than aluminum and you wont feel the road as much in the saddle. The steel frame can take a serious beating and i didn't baby this thing i left it outside in the rain, rode it in the rain threw it on stands and in and out of cars, let it slide around in my truck. However you will feel the weight with every climb. Your biggest downfalls here are the weight and the components. This will not win a race.
If you're out just for some exercise and a decent sub 20 mile ride i would recommended this bike. This bike was my first road bike and made me fall in love with cycling but if you like the sport expect to upgrade. Sell this bike to a friend or use it as a loaner or permanently affix it to your stand... If you find cycling is not for you or you utterly destroy this bike you made a $200 investment.
So if you're a beginner rider and you don't know if you're going to stick with the sport get it, take it out ride it hard beat it up hit potholes and ride on cobblestone streets learn on this one then upgrade.

I have had this bike for over a year and have put about 2000 miles on it. After about 8 months the front brakes were completely shot and I had to replace them. I have always had problems shifting it. Other than these issues the bike has held up. It is not the greatest, I would not say it is good bike but it gets the job done. I'll be finishing grad school and will buy a nice road bike then but this has been adequate in getting me started in cycling.

Super bike for the buck!

I bought the bike literally "off the rack" at my local store, in June 2010. Apparently, someone had ordered it and never picked it up. The bike was fully assembled, but nothing had been adjusted. I put a little more air in the tires and rode it home from the store!
Once I got it home, 30 minutes of fine tuning was all I had to do to get it up to snuff. I have since done NOTHING to it but ride the wheels off it.
This bike is a daily ride for me, and I AVERAGE 150 miles a week on it, often 200 or more. It would be a safe bet to guess the bike has 1000 miles on it now, and it has NEVER missed a beat. One flat tire, and that was completely my fault. No other tire issues at all, other than I'm just plain wearing them out! It IS my transportation, and consistently performs flawlessly. Its a joy to ride, easy to handle, and can be very fast on the right surface.
I would definitely recommend this as a first road bike, or even as a second bike in a collection!

This is the best bike I have ever owned. It compares to bikes that cost 3 times as much.
Gear set is 52 by 14 for the highest gear. I found this to be standard for most Non-Racing bikes.

Great for the Price

Picking up the box:
For the price, you can't beat it! Everything came securely wrapped in a lightweight box. When I picked up the box, I was completely surprised how light the box was, and I was able to carry the box without the help of a cart.
Unpacking the box:
Everything inside was well protected and labeled appropriately.
Assembly:
I am not the greatest bicycle mechanic, so to save myself the headache, I assembled the bike as best as I could and took it down to my local bike shop and spent $30 to have them dial in the derailleurs and brakes. I figured $30 is totally justified since I saved some much money in the first place by buying this great, lightweight bike.
Recommended upgrades:
The only modification the bike shop recommended was to change the bar wrap. It comes with a really cheap bar wrap, so I changed it out for a cork wrap witch makes for a very comfortable ride. Unlike others who had issues with the saddle, I found it fit me comfortably.
Overall:
Very satisfied. I'm 5' 10" and it fits me great.

This bike rocks! The seat was very uncomfortable, so I put a Bell 'gel' seat on and that fixed it! The bike rides and shifts smooth, and is well balanced. This bike is a joy to ride.

Can't beat the price!

I have had my bike for about a year. I can.t speak about assembly because at the time I bought mine they had them in store pre-assembled. The store tech did a decent job as well. There is no other road bike by any manufacturer in this price range. It is a decent seviceable road bike, which at this price says a lot. Other road bikes start at around five hundred dollars. I did have the problem that others have mentioned with the flat tires. I quickly determined that the problem was that the rims are lined with a plastic liner that has dimples at each of the points where the spokes are attached. These dimples easily develop cracks. The tube coming in contact under pressure with the cracked platic causes the flat. This is easily corrected by purchasing 99 cent rim strips at any bike shop. If you mention that it is for your schwinn varsity, they may turn their noses up at you but will still take your $2 for a pair of rim strips. Of course if you ask them to show you a bike that competes with it on price, they can't. I suggest buying them and installing them as you do your assembly. It rides nice and smooth. I rode with a doctor friend of mine who has fifteen bikes, the latest of which he bought for $4000. When he saw my bike and I told him what I paid for it, he was impressed. He said the components were decent especially considering the price. I will probably upgrade in the future, but I can't complain about this great starter bike.

Overall, I really like the bike and the price of the bike is really good. The only thing was that it was in really bad shape when I received the package. I had to take it to the bike shop and get a few things fixed:
-Both tires needed to be trued
-Both brakes (front and back) needed adjustments
-Back dérailleur needed adjustments
-Right pedal had to be taken off to tap the threads
I haven't had any other problems so with the price of the bike and the adjustments totally was a nice deal for the bike.

I have had this bike for 2 years now. I have just rolled over 2400 miles on it. This bike is still all stock other than the pedals. I replaced them with spd pedals. I have done various rides and bicycle tours with no problems. I highly recommend this bike to anyone who wants to get into cycling but does not want to spend over $700 on a name brand trendy bike. It has had various tune-ups prior to a long tour, but no mechanical issues.

The bike is a solid road bike for a very fair price. If you're looking to get into cycling more and are on a low budget than this is an excellent choice. I use is to commute to work 2 times a week, 14 miles round trip. I have no complaints and would recommend it.

I bought this bike 1 year ago, it is well worth the money GREAT VALUE!!! Comfortable ride, loved the drop down handle bars. Ive never had any trouble with this bike. I've now completed 4 triathlons with it along with my training. I always finished my races with others that spent $800+ on their bikes.

I love this bike but who ever assembles them needs to take more pride in their work. I got this bike the other day and took it out for a ride when I got home. Luckily before I road it I checked a few things. A lot of stuff just wasn't adjusted right or tightened down like it should of been.
After riding it I had to adjust the derailer and shifting setup so that it would hit all the gears.
None of it was a big deal but when I went to ride it to work this morning the front tire was flat. So I stripped down the tire and it was pinched in 2 places right by the stem on the rim side of the tube. Hopefully I can get walmart to refund me the price of the tube as I don't want to exchange the bike and set everything up again. anyway, great price, great bike, but just go over it before you ride it!

This is a very great bike. The bike is fast, light, good looking and built with great equipment. The aluminum frame is very nice and strong. One draw back is there is no bottle holder on the seat tube, but there are wrap around mounts for that. The site says the bike weights 32 lbs. With two bottles/holders a cycle computer and a seat bag with multi tool kit, the bike weighed 26 lbs on my scale. I have put over 2,000 miles on it and it still rides like new, only replaced chain after 700 miles and tires after 400, tires were kind of cheap, wore fast. The bike is so great I didn't go for another frame like a carbon, I just bought upgrades like FSA carbon handle drop bar, clipless pedals and carbon seat post, wheels and crank is next upgrade. I really recommend this bike to anyone who wants a great bike for way under extreme cost. Enjoy!
