Shooting Chrony Inc. F1 Chronograph

Quality is 10/10! Well made of solid steel and good quality plastic for the diffusers. Well laid out instruction manual. Works great and is accurate. Hard to believe so much for a price well less than what all the competitors charge for the idential item. Wal-mart's ship to store process is very fast and easy to use and this is my third or fourth purchase made that way.

I bought this site to store and the whole deals came in under $80. This IS the cheapest on the net. Item also came in almost 2 weeks early making the whole experience perfect. Don't my the master chrony, look up building the momentary switch box yourself for $9 online with an audio cable.

First I want to say I only tested this with .177 - .22 caliber ammo, so it was much harder for the unit to see the smaller projectiles.
It would see/measure ZERO shots until I added a bright & direct external light source to help the unit "see" the projectiles pass through the sensors.
Then I had to find the sweet spot, one inch high or low and it would not read at all.
Finally when I found that 1" area I needed to fire through, I was getting a reading on about 1 in 5 on the .177, and 1 in 3 on the .22.
In MY opinion, that is just not acceptable.
What a waste of ammo and time.

F1 Chrony - checking your reloads

The Chrony F1 is a very good chronograph for shooting at a good price. Yes there are better ones out there but I am pleased with this unit. When I setup the unit I was at least 10 feet from the barrel so that you will not get errors because of the muzzle blast. It gave me readings on 98% of my shots, meaning I only had 2 error codes (over 100 shots through the Chrony). I shot 22LR, 375 Win, 308 Win and 338 Win mag through the unit. When getting this unit, I would recommend getting a tripod and a remote (additional cost of $20 to $25). If you can get the F1 and remote together would be the best, if unable to get the comb then you can buy or make a remote. I did not have a remote button with me to check all the functions but it worked very well. I reload cartridges and needed to see how close they were. On my 338 Win Mag I only had a difference of 75 feet per second difference on a total of 10 shot on one string.
For the remote I got this information from other people on the web: You will need to buy or make a push button device to access the computer in the unit. You can get the remote control button through the chrony website. The remote allow you to "access" all the cool features like Hi, Lo, Average Dev, Standard Dev, extreme spread, etc. To build a remote you will need a 3 pole stereo 1/8 headphone jack plug. Even though only 2 connections are used a 2 pole jack WILL NOT work!!! Trust me on this as I had to go back and exchange parts. On a 1/8 inch stereo headphone jack there are three poles - the tip, the middle, and the "base". Even though it is a two pole connection, the Chrony uses the middle and base connections on the plug. All you need to do is solder a length of speaker wire to the above mentioned poles of the plug and put a momentary contact switch at the other end! Please note that the "tip" connection on the jack's plug is NOT used. I'm hoping that sharing this information will help you. Have fun shooting..

Best price and shipping cost by far. I shoot airguns in my garage, and do some tuning and modifications, so I wanted some "before and after" results. This F-1 Chrony is just right for that purpose. It pays to read the short manual, and follow instructions. Do that, and you will be happy with the results, because it can be a little fussy to set up correctly. I ended up stringing fishing line between muzzle and target, and setting up the Chrony underneath on a tripod at the right height.
After that, it never missed a shot. There are also some nice accesories available for this if you need
extra info.

I've used this chronograph from 20° to 75° testing everything from a .177 pellet rifle to a .338 Lapua Magnum and it works well. Follow the manual's instructions and you will not be disappointed.

If you don't need a lot of features, there's nothing wrong with this. Checked it with some known ammo and it appears accurate. Been working on some high velocity 6.5 swede and slower cast bullets as well as 22lr.
