Love the Mixer, 06/10/2009

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 4 out of 5

My wife and children purchased this mixter for my birthday. Before using it I read all the reviews and found most of them to be negative. Use this product as it was intended and you will have excellent results. I was able to make two large loaves of bread, according to the Betty Crocker white bread recipe. This recipe calls for 9 to 10 cups of flour. I mixed the ingredients with 5 cups of flour using the beaters and then changed to the dough hooks and began adding flour one cup at a time. I ran the mixer on the lowest speed and used a mixing bowl spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl and feed flour into the hooks. It worked flawlessly. Kneeding that much flour for the required amount of time is a lot of work. This machine did it all. The bread turned out great.

Pros: Color
Cons: Everything else
My grandmother gave this to me as a housewarming gift when I moved into my first apartment. It was right around the price range she offered (unfortunately the kitchenaid one wasn't) and was red so I was very excited to get it. I found out soon why the price difference was so big. The bowl wobbled terribly when it was mixing and it wouldn't get the food on the sides of the bowl to mix in with the rest. As for the food in the bottom of the bowl, it just kind of pushed the it back and forth, but wasn't actually mixing or beating it... even at the highest speed. After twenty minutes I had to pull out my hand mixer to finish the job (in about two). I tried to give it multiple chances but it would fail every time so I finally took it back to Walmart (keep your box or returning it will be hellacious!). I'm splurging on a Kitchenaid now and hoping that I'll end up with a mixer than actually does its job. Don't waste your money on this, save up for a real mixer!

Well, most important, it's RED! Just kidding, but it is very attractive in my kitchen and beats and whips like a charm.Plenty of power for dough as well as batter. Whats more, my old glass Sunbeam mixing bowls fit perfectly in the grooves of the new chrome bowl. Welcome home, new mixer.

dont buy this junk, 03/01/2009

When I received this mixer as a gift, I had my doubts that it would stand up to the mixer that I had just retired after 25 years, but decided to give it a chance. After less than 10 uses the tilt button froze and was unable to remove the bowl from stand or blades from mixer not to mention the pizza dough for dinner that night. I called the sunbeam support line and talked to a really patient woman who could only refer me to a service center almost 200 miles away from my home. Per the service center sunbeam has known about this promblem since 2000 and still hasn't changed this design flaw and that it isn't cost effective to fix my mixer as it has just come out of warranity.

We found this is the only way to shop, to avoid the rush. The mixer was better than we expected and the price and quality cannot be beat.
All this is a relief during these uncertain times.
Thank you!

Splurge for the Kitchen Aide, 12/26/2008

Overall Rating: 1 out of 5 1 out of 5

The mixer kept shutting down. The motor just shuts off by itself, then starts up again. The bowl is not secured on the turntable and I had to manually turn the bowl to mix. I would not recommend this mixer at all. I purchased a nice Kitchen Aide for about $120 more and found it was well worth it.

Mixmaster of Choice, 09/28/2008
By Bedey, Mentone, AL
Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 5 out of 5

I prefer the Sunbeam Mixmaster over the Kitchenaid because it is more versatile in that the beaters can easily be removed from the stand and used to mix in a pot. Plus, when mixing in the regular mixing bowl on the stand, the Sunbeam doesn't consistently flip out dry ingredients from the mixing bowl as the Kitchenaid does. As far as power goes, the Sunbeam is plenty powereful for all kinds of mixing tasks. This particular Sunbeam was a gift for a young bride-to-be and she was delighted to receive it. I frequently give this as a bridal present, and the red color selection really appeals to the younger girls. In the thank-you note from the recipient of this mixer, she said the red went well with her deco -style taste.

Nice to look at, 06/01/2008
By Serlinggroupie, Jacksonville, Florida
Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

The mixer works pretty good, I just have a problem with the tilt back button and the attachment eject button. They are incredibly hard to use. Anyone with any kind of arthritis, or any lack of hand strength at all would have a real problem using these features. And the bowls rest in a plastic removable base which, if it would break, the whole appliance would be useless. On mine, if I don't insert the beaters in the exact same position each time, they hit each other. Once I got past all of that, I like the mixer fine. It has plenty of power for mixing cookie doughs, and cake mixes. I don't mind scraping the bowl, it's still easier than mixing cookie dough by hand. It's easy to keep clean, and it looks beautiful on the counter top.

not as good as the old ones, 04/13/2008
By an anonymous customer, Oklahoma
Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

I had a sunbeam mixer 20 years ago, and I used it very often, made bread, cookies, cakes. At the time, I took a cake decorating class and made all my icing with the old one. It did eventually die. I made do with hand mixers for several years. Just a couple months ago, I decided to get another stand mixer. and from previous experience, I did purchase the sunbeam. I was very disappointed. I made bread. The machine literally bounced all over the kitchen cabinet! I washed it all nice and clean and took it back the next day. This machine might be OK for the occasional cake mix. but not for what I wanted. Go with the Kitchenaid.

Not what I expected, 04/10/2008
By Heartsgirl, Columbus, GA
Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 2 out of 5

I bought this mixer because I've used my mother's over and over and was very satisfied. When I got it home, I discovered that the bowls did not lock in place as did my mother's mixer. I called and was told by Sunbeam that the mixers with the bowls that lock are those with DUAL motors. The model numbers are 2346, 2349, 2351, 2347, 2348, 2375, 2617. I'll be returning this one for one of those models. They may cost a little more, but it will definitely be worth it. You won't have to work so hard scraping the sides which is one of the main reasons you buy this product.

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 3 out of 5

I used this mixer twice, once for a cake mix, and once for a homeade frosting. The turntable started to go very slowly while mixing the frosting, and i thought it was because the frosting was thick. After i had it washed up i decided to make sure that it would work right so i put the beaters back in and put the bowl on there, and the turntable did not move!! I am wondering if i got a bad one, or they just break quickly. Unsure now if i will swap or try something else.

This product does not mix very well at all, batter is pushed to the sides of the bowl and you have to continually scrape the sides and bottom, I could do this better by hand or with a hand mixer. I am going to splurge and buy the kitchen aid.

Years ago I had an avacado colored Sunbeam mixer and comparing the two I prefer the other one in ease--the new one is very stiff, and I preferred the glass bowls over stanless steel which I think would damage faster than glass, I can't rate the durability accurately as this is the first time I have used it. I would like a wire whisk attachment, but on the whole I really do like this product.

The base that the bowl sits on came off. The beaters do not work the batter in from the bottom. The beaters just push the batter to the sides of the bowl and I have to continuously scrape the sides down. This is extra work. If I am going to have to help mix it, I would just use a hand mixer. I do not recommend this mixer.

I had an old sunbeam mixer that was my grandmothers and it finally died, so i got this new cute red one! This one is much quieter, quite sturdy and easy to use! It does not have all the gadgets that other, more exspensive ones have, but that is just fine with me. Keep it simple.
I hope it lasts as long as the old one did! (35 years!)
