My wife and I have been looking for a tandem and this one from Walmart is excellent. They even put it together for us. The 21 gears switch smoothly, the brakes work great and the seats are comfy. I would highly recommend this bike!

The bike came boxed. The thin cardboard that was around the frame was rubbed through by the tire, scratching the paint. Additionally, there were no directions for assembly.

The bike was packaged well. All parts were included. Installation was pretty easy with open end and allen wrenches. The bike is sturdy and operates smoothly. You have a fairly large adjustment range for different heights. My wife and I really enjoy riding the bike. The tandem bike allows people at different levels of fitness to get a good workout together (as opposed to walking or jogging).

Easy assembly, no need for instructions. Very cushy seats. First ride was 18miles-no problems. Going to be used for some great memories with granddaughter.

I was skeptical about ordering this tandem bicycle after I read some of the reviews from other customers. So, I was surprised and amazed after I received it. It exceeded my expectations. The associates at Walmart also did an excellent job of assembling the bike. The service was outstanding and I am very pleased with my purchase. It has been a blast for my wife and I when we go on a ride. The people all stare and smile and wave as we go down the road in our bicycle built for two. We've even had some take our picture. I would highly recommend this bike to everyone.

FYI: I never rode nor owned a tandem bike before so I didn't know what to expect.
What I like:
1. the ability to take a ride with someone who would normally be a lot slower than myself.
2. It's quite useable as a one person bike (but the rear brakes are almost useless due to absence of weight on back wheel - CAREFUL going downhill...) - so the possibility is there for you to ride over and pick someone up or drop them off.

What I don't like:
1. front rider has complete control, BUT, a heavy back rider can inadvertently shift their weight and require alteration of the bike's course. You must be CAREFUL going through tight spots or traffic situations if your back rider is heavy.
2. both riders must move their feet in tandem. The peddles for both riders move together - back rider cannot rest while front rider is peddling. (I expected there would have been some "coast" capability for one or both riders)
3. back rider will not have a good view unless taller than front rider, which presents the problem noted of a heavy rear rider

The bike is still "new" so we've not hit any of the "wear" issues we saw in other comments.
But, all in all, it's been a good experience. My wife cannot go the speed or distance I can, but this solved the problem. Hopefully she'll get better.
This would probably work VERY well for an adult and a youngster. It works well for a couple, subject to the above. We expect to have fun!

My husband and I purchased this bike for our anniversary. He could not wait to put it together and try it out. We loved it! You can imagine the looks we received from our neighbors riding down the street. You could tell they were a little envious! This is a great way to spend quality time with your spouse. The bike arrived quickly and was packaged very well to prevent any damage. My husband was really impressed with the quality of this bike for such a low price. It was very easy to ride and control. The seats are also gel packed for comfort, which is definitely a plus. What a great way to get a little exercise. I am sure that we will enjoy this wonderful bike for many years to come. Thanks Walmart for carrying this product!

After some tweaking on the gear shifter, brakes and sizing adjustments, this bike seems to be a great value for the dollar. The back wheel had a bad wobble but an adjustment on the spokes fixed that. One other issue was when I tried to adjust the seat the allen screws that hold the seat in place seemed to be very cheap and no matter what size allen wrench I used it didn't fit very good and kinda strpped the head out. I had to cut a groove across the head and used a flat head screw driver to get it out. It was in way to tight and the fact that Walmart put it togher for me tells me they over did it a bit. I bought some higher quality allen screws and replaced the cheap ones. The bike frame itself is pretty light and strong for a tandem. My wife and I rent a tandem on Mackinaw Island in the UP of Michigan every summer and ride it around the island. There are no cars on the island just bikes and horses. We really enjoyed riding type of bike and I decided to purchase a tandem based on that fun. With all the problems getting this bike right, I would still recommend this bike to others and do not regret the purchase one bit. Hope your handy though, because it does require some extra work to get it running smooth.

I had looked at some other tandem bikes and they were triple the price and road the same way as the one Walmart was selling. Why pay more and waste your money.
I'm very pleased with this bike. All I did was put larger seats and had a gear tuneup and my wife and I are having a blast. Dont hesitate to buy.

Fantastic bike. Well built and smooth. Lightweight frame and we got seats with it that are great. Ordered from walmart.com. Had Walmart assemble (due to gear adjustments) at no cost. Instructions were in micro-print and not easy to understand micro drawings. One look and back to Walmart to the experts. One day and done right.
Love riding this with wife, although I have to admit I was less than excited with the idea initially. When we picked it up at the store (not carried in the store) everyone was looking. Could have sold a dozen or more on the way out. People who have seen it say it is the racing bike of the tandem set. Riding it is fun and good exercise. With gears and lightweight frame, it feels like you are cheating. Love it. Great product. Should carry in the store!

This is a great bike for the price. It is a quality product. My only complaint is that the rear wheel is not "true" or bent. It is not bad enough that it is not rideable, but I will have to now find a bike shop to streighten it and that will cost money.

An Outstanding Product for Everyday Folks

I'm anything but an expert when it comes to tandem bikes and, due to my work schedule, would be considered an occasional cyclist at best, however I do know a great deal when I see one. This item is definitely a recommended buy, not only because the price is fantastic (just as other reviewers have already pointed out, even cheap tandem bikes don't come cheap), but the overal quality of the bike is also very, very good.
Speaking to these two points, the original reason for this purchase was so that my wife and I could spend some more time doing things together while getting a bit of exercise in the process. Unfortunately, my wife never learned to ride a bike but, after some discussion and research, was willing to learn on a tandem--possibly because I'd also be sharing in any scrapes or bruises encountered while she was getting past the learning curve. Consequently, we were looking to find a solid, well-built tandem bike that wasn't going to break (or break the bank) if she eventually decided that group cycling wasn't for us.
This adventure almost came to an end before it even started once we began to price out tandem bikes and figure out where they could be purchased. For the most part, it seems that a majority of places that sell this type of bike online are specialty shops or higher end cycling stores that are exclusively designed to cater to "serious" cyclists only. Further, a great deal of what they have to offer--even at the lower end of their product line--is ridiculously expensive. In terms of what was available at our local area bike shops, our choice was exceptionally limited as we live in a smaller town (although the city is just up the road) and in Canada, where finding anything outside of the ordinary can be challenging if there's no real market or demand for it (as it turns out, tandem bikes fall into this category). Indeed, the best we could originally do was to find an ex-rental that had seen plenty of miles and weathering for around $450.
All this changed when we discovered walmart.com. At first, we couldn't believe that they could offer tandem bikes for such a low price (they currently sell two types--a single speed and this model) and thought that perhaps this could be chalked up to poor quality or materials used. Further research revealed, however, that this particular tandem bike is anything but poorly made (based on numerous reviews from multiple websites) and that, of all the retailers that sell it, walmart.com has the lowest price. The next worry was how to get this item as we don't live in the U.S. While other online retailers who sell this bike are normally quite inflexible with their delivery and payment options, walmart.com offers a wide choice of both and we were able to use PayPal and Site-to-Store to buy our bike. I've already described this cross-border shopping experience in the Q&A section, however it goes without saying that if we can buy this bike with as little fuss as we did, then anyone anywhere in the States should be able to do the same.
As for the bike itself, it came neatly packaged in a big box, roughly 7' long and about 4' wide (the actual dimensions are available in the Q&A section) about a week after I ordered it. There was no damage whatsoever to the box and I later learned from the shop that assembled the bike that all the parts inside were intact and packaged well. It cost me about $100 to have the bike put together, and another $50 to buy mud guards and to have both them and a panier/set of saddle bags installed on the bike. I do regret not having bought the mud guards at walmart.com as well (the panier/saddle bags were purchased along with the bike), as the bike shop charged me more than twice the amount for a similar product. Nevertheless, the end result was well worth all the extra money spent and I can honestly say that this tandem bike looked just as good--if not better--than anything else offered for hundreds of dollars more in the bike store where I picked it up. In fact, I got the impression from dealing with one of the employees there that they were actually a little upset that we could find such a great bike for only a fraction of what they were selling theirs for (this was the same shop that wanted $450 for a used tandem bike).
We've now owned this bike for a little over three weeks and couldn't be happier with it. Although my wife has yet to build up enough confidence to start our practice sessions in earnest, I'm confident that things will work out and that we'll enjoy this bike for many years to come. I've already had the chance to ride it a number of times by myself and it is both smooth on the road and surprisingly light. Frankly, it's easy to forget that this is a tandem, particularly since its handling and performance is equal to any single-rider bike I've ever owned. Although things might be a little more daunting once my wife finally joins me, this bike has an excellent, durable feel to it and, coupled with the superior shifting package, I'm sure that the worst of teaching her how to ride a bike will be over sooner rather than later.
Bottom line: this is an outstanding purchase for anyone who wants a decent quality, exceptionally-priced tandem bike. It might not be the sleekest or highest-end tandem ever made--at least as far as some hard-core cyclists are concerned, anyway--but for the rest of us, the little money spent will likely bring just as much enjoyment than some thousand dollar plus model. The fact that walmart.com is also able to conveniently offer this item to practically anyone who wants one makes this choice a definite no-brainer.

I purchased this bike site-to-store. The shipping was delayed a couple of days but not a big deal. I had called ahead to the store to see if they would assemble it for me. They said no problem! When it arrived, I went to the store and purchased no-flat tire tubes and had them install those on my new bike. It took them an extra day to assemble the bike because they hadn't done a tandem before but I was more than happy to wait because neither had I! The bike is great! It took a little getting used to but it is very fun. It seems to be well built and my wife and I get lots of waves and smiles.
