Review 1 for Littermaid® Plus Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box
Good Product!

I got this litterbox as a Christmas present in 2008 and it's still working a year later. You really do need to buy the better litter for it though, just make sure it says "clumping" on the container. I like this litterbox, it makes having two cats much easier. You have to clean it every now and then but it's not a hassle. It does what it is supposed to do and it's a good price. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to have a little bit less stress in life when it comes to their pets. I didn't give it 5 stars only because it does get stuck sometimes raking over and over but you can fix it by moving the litter. You can work all the kinks out easily but it does have some.

I purchased one of these several years ago and loved it. It lasted for about 2 years and it was my fault it got messed up. I got careless cleaning it. Since then I have bought about 4. I have 9 cats now. Crazy I know. but they are all strays. Anyways I have returned them several times trying to get one that works. Either they will not shut off or after about 2 months just quit working. I don't know what happened but I have 4 very expensive units that do not work. I give up. I will never buy one of these again!

It's amazing! I went from a regular litter box to this one. It does exactly what it says it will do! It uses less liter than the regular liter boxes. The smell is almost nothing compared to the other liter box! It is awesome!

Waste of money

I spend more time cleaning this litter box that I did with the old pan and scoop. There is constantly litter all over the floor from when the rake spills the waste out onto the floor. When it is getting ready to deposite the waste into the container there is a gap in the side where waste can fall off the rake if its on the sides and end up all over the place. The other problem is that the rake tends to catch on the edge of the waste container lid and eventually pulls it off. then we have a real mess because now the waste is on the lid, the floor and well its gross. I think it is really very unsanitary and a hassle. It is very noisy which is not cool when you have guests over. The other problem is that the rake is not real good at getting wet waste, we use tidy cat clumping litter and wet waste tends to just break up and then get left in the box to stink. So I have to replace the litter every coupla days to keep the house from stinking. We finally put ours in a box with higher sides to collect the litter that falls off the rake and have delt with the litter issue, as for the lid, well we taped it to the plastic topper so it wont fall off. It still beats cleaning the litter pan 2-3 times a day with the old scoop but if it hadn't been so expensive it would have gone in the trash long ago.

This product never shuts off. I have to push the shutoff button, to stop it from constantly recycling. I must clean this box on a daily basis, this product was not made for 2 cats. The plastic disposable, cartridges are way too expensive. I would not recommend this product to anyone . There is no easy way to maintain this product. I've went back to the manual covered litter box because it is easier to maintain on a daily basis. I have made a mistake by buying this product.

Over the past 15 years I have purchased probably 10 or more Littermaid automatic litterboxes. I have also purchased other brands. Littermaid has out lasted and performs better than any other brands I have purchased. The merchandise was received promptly and in great condition.

This litter box did what it was suppose to do. The only problem is that the motor died after 3 years. we are going to get another but it is going to be the littermaid elite. for 20.00 more, you get a better littermaid. Litter not staying in the containment area is the cat and not the littermaid.

Review 9 for Littermaid® Plus Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box
Great product

I have purchased two Littermaids in the past, and have been very pleased with each one. The first one was the basic model. When that one broke after several years, we decided to purchase the Littermaid Plus, since we have three cats. I've had no issues with either one of them (until they broke, but I only purchased two in 12 years, so that's not bad for all the use they get). My current one is running slower, so I'm assuming it's time for a replacement. I will chose the Littermaid Plus again. I was thinking of the Littermaid Elite, but I noticed many unhappy customers on the Consumer Reports website (rake is not as strong as the Plus, the motor tends to burn out after a couple months, etc). As I said, I've been happy with the Plus, so I'm going to replace my current one with another Plus!

Disapointment

I purchased the self cleaning litter box and have been very disapointed in the product. After having the unit for only 2 months the system keeps running. It is only suppose to rake one time, after the 10 minute period of my cat using the box, the system goes back and forth approx 6 times. I have also noticed that the clumps with waste and sticks to it. I used the best clumping litter and to no avail. I am better off using the old way. It was less of a hassle. I would not recommend this product.

Prevents Accidents on the Floor

I have three cats but not enough room for three litter boxes. My vet said that an auto-cleaning box could be equivalent to two boxes so I have one Littermaid and one regular box. All of my cats prefer the Littermaid box because I just can't keep the regular one as clean. I like it because it prevents "litter box smell" from infiltrating my apartment and my cats never go to the bathroom on the floor! I do wish it were a little bigger so the cats couldn't fling litter out as easily. Additionally, it doesn't work when the litter is vey deep so it needs to be refilled frequently. Still, the pros outweigh the cons.

This is the fourth automatic litterbox I have owned. The most recent box only last 10 months before the sensor stopped working. It is expensive and they may last about a year, but I think they are worth it. They really help with the chore.

Review 14 for Littermaid® Plus Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box
While I was excited at first about a self-cleaning Litter box, I soon realized my mistake in buying this system.
The motor has died twice in 1 year. Cleaning is harder than a normal box, involving not only removing the litter and dumping the collection pan, but also cleaning the gears and the tracks so the gears can move smoothly. I also have to be sure not to fill it above the "empty" line, else the motor can't push the tines through the litter. The collection pans themselves are extremely over priced, and need to be emptied daily if you have more than one cat.
If you want something quick and easy that only needs to be cleaned once every couple days, go with a conventional litter box. This system is high maintenance with a short lifespan, not a good combo

Great thing to have

This is my 3rd one and I can highly recommend them. Even though it is my 3rd, they are great. I do need a new one about aver 2.5 years, but with 3 cats, they are a life saver (and smell saver too). The only downside, make sure you keep about 1/2 inch below the fill line or it will run continuously if one of your cats gets in and "plays" in the litter. I need to change the holder about once a week and it takes less than 2 minutes to do the whole thing.

Nothing beats an automatic litter box. Odor is minimal. Stays clean. Check once a week. My old one just wore out after a few years. But the litter box I just purchased arrived in damaged condition. The motor runs constantly without turning off. The turn around time to order it takes so long. Order to delivery was 2 weeks. Returned (very easy--no questions asked). Had to reorder. Wait another 2 weeks. I wish it was available in store.

Review 19 for Littermaid® Plus Self-Cleaning Cat Litter Box
Not for mature cats

I have owned several of the littermaid products. The PLUS is the worse of all of them. If you have a mature cat, don't waste your money. Spend the extra bucks and upgrade. The combs are too short to properly dispose of waste. If you fill the litter pan to the line as directed, the combs barely function. There is not enough power to push the litter.

We bought this for our cats a few months back. The first one we returned it had a defect and now we are on the 2nd one and still not happy w/this product. It doesn't reduce the smell or keep litter in the box. The noise doesn't bother us or the cats, you still have to touch the litter when your cleaning and it runs constantly never stops. When you turn it off or unplug it to renew the power to get it to stop running over and over it still does it. It's really not a " self-cleaning " litter box.Over all I wouldn't buy this product or tell anyone about it.
