Review 1 for Mossberg 12-Gauge 18.5" Shotgun with FLEX System Piston Grip, Matte Black
Home Security? Buy it, you won't beat it.

Bottom line up front: Excellent. I bought this gun about two weeks ago. It is chambered for 2 3/4" and 3" rounds. I have fired 3" turkey mags, 2 3/4" target loads, and 2 3/4" all purpose loads at all manner of inanimate objects (no wild game though). This weapon is as smooth and reliable as one has come to expect and appreciate from a Mossy. The flex system is outstanding and allows you to change your firing hand platform from a very comfortable shoulder fired stock to a comfortable pistol grip in seconds. Literally...seconds. The release and locking mechanism is smooth, fast, strong, and dependable. The same can be said for the quick release and interchangeable forend (I recommend you leave the forend as is though, it is railed on three sides and set for pressure point tac lights; it is tip top as is). See that fat, knarly looking compensator looking thing that caps the barrel? That, my friend, is a device that turns the barrel, and shotgun, into a breaching platform (as in breaching doors, aka: jamming the spiked barrel into the wood and blowing out the hinges, deadbolt, or the knob). For home security, you will not beat this gun. At least not for the $450.00 that Wal Mart is charging for it. I am a Recon Marine that will hopefully be retiring in a couple of years and I can tell you that you can, and should, trust the Mossberg 500 (and the 590 for that matter). Matter of fact, here's a quote from G&A: "The 500 and 590 lines also have the distinction of being the only shotguns ever to pass the rigorous Mil-Spec 3443 torture test, proving what generations of shooters already knew: Mossberg guns are tough." And so they are. I can personally attest to that; as can Marines the world over. I do have one tiny complaint though: You recall that I told you that that awesome forend is railed right? Well, when you get to the 10-15 round mark of firing, the left side rail on the forend starts biting hard into your left hand pointer knuckle (I'm right handed). Of course it depends on where you position your hand on the forend, but sooner or later, a knuckle is going to start talking to you. I had to throw on some gloves after a while. But does that matter the first bit for home defense or even hunting? Not at all. Buy this gun. And no, Mossberg did not secretly pay me a gagillion dollars to write this review (although I wish they would :) No Sir, or Ma'am, this is just one Marine's honest opinion.
